This was one of my favorite estate sales of the year Town and Country estate sales never disappoint. I purchased the two English knife boxes featured here and are being proudly displayed in my home couldn’t be happier with my purchase.
The tortoise and sterling silver box is my favourite I'm always on the lookout for that combo, tortoise and gold or tortoise on its own ❤ Loved this episode. I'll have to watch it a few times to take it all in 😊😊😊
Wow, I really enjoyed browsing with you today, Lady Mary Beth. What beautiful and interesting things in this sale! The prices seem very reasonable, too. I love listening to you talk about the history and design of things. It’s so soothing yet engaging. Wishing you and yours a Happy New Year! ❤️
Morning lady Mary Beth,I’m coming around with you ,I hope you had a fabulous Christmas!im wishing you an your family a good healthy NewYear much love Ann uk 🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧❤️❤️❤️
So, start planning your return! I love those caddies. When we were growing up we had candle sticks with staples. A very British theme this week. Great finds x
That '1666' monks bench was probably made a lot later. It is a mishmash of different dated styles and it was popular in England in the 1800's to make furniture, particularly chairs with false dates.
@@LadyMaryBeth It's the 1666 date that gives it away unfortunately. The Victorians made a LOT of furniture pieces with that date to make it a conversational piece for the home. I would have to take a lot closer look but there might be a panel or part of the bench from the 1600's or 1700's and the rest of the bench made around that at a later date. As far as I can see there are three different styles in one bench. But it is hand carved and would look great in any home.
@@LadyMaryBethdiscerning and scholarly antique dealers would certainly recognize this as a Victorian “invention”. A piece that may have elements of ancient furniture but also elements designed to look convincing or to deceive. I hope that those who buy them appreciate them for what they are and appreciate the artistry and not simply the supposed date of construction.
Hi Mary Beth ,I purchased a sterling silver mustard pot and spoon with cobalt liner at a museum in St Augustine. The tortoise box is stunning. Have a great week.
@@DominiqueRingeisen-luciani Wish I could have returned for the Christofle on day one of the sale. Christmas was different this year staying home and dealing with illness. On the mend and ready for 2025.
@ pff !!!! Hope you are better now… weird Christmas for us as well !!! My hunsband going through dialysis and my father in intensive care unit after having a lot of water in his lungs !!! 2025 wird besser sein es kann nicht schlechter sein !!! Liebe Grusse Dear sweet friend
Oak carved bench is more likely 1866 rather than 1666! Have shown it to friend who deals in early English oak furniture and he pointed out all the signs of a 19th century copy.
What a beautiful collection from 1 family. Where do I get that card with all the laces on it? I am in Illinois and would love to plan a road trip down and hit as many of them as possible.

Royal Doulton Forsyth is my China pattern!! Picked it out in New England and to our surprise we ended up living in Forsyth County in NC!

Wonder if it was known at that time that dates were carved incorrectly. Most interesting and thanks for the insight.

You look like beautiful viva Bianca from tv show Spartacus my favorite actress
Thanks! You have me curious now about this actress.
You need to talk about legacy China-Wear- as it pertains to high levels of toxic lead. It's shocking
✨️🌿🌿🌿✨️
There are definitely concerns with lead in vintage dishes, especially if crazing is present.
