    Too bad the refs swallowed their whistles in the championship and Brett got beat to hell because of it... The saints didn't deserve that Super Bowl.

      That Saints team in 2006 wasn't good to beat the Colts. The NFC stunk that year. The Bears rode a defense over a mediocre NFC to win it.
      The 2009 Saints was good. They had the skill to beat the Colts.

    • @FlynnRider4
      @FlynnRider4 7 років тому +7

      It is not hard to figure out. The opponent isn't important. The Colts just happened to be in both Super Bowls. What is crucial that the 2009 Saints were far superior to the lucky 2006 Saints. The league could fix the game without anyone suspecting because the 2009 Saints were a legitimately good team.
      The 2006 Bears destroyed the Saints in the NFC Championship Game and in turn got embarrassed by the Colts.

      You would have to be an idiot watching that Vikings Saints game if you thought the refs we're doing their job. Favre got murdered. Peterson fumbling 4 times didn't help either but if the refs had even called half of the illegal hits on Favre I would have been a viking Superbowl. Favre had his perfect ending stolen.

    I was in a sports bar surrounded by Niner's fans who were all laughing and rubbing it in my face. My wife asked if we should just go after San Fran scored their last points. They showed a close up of Favre spinning the ball on his finger with a look I'd seen for far too long when he was with the Packers. I sat back down and got another earful from the 49er crowd.. My wife asked me why I sat back down and I just smiled and said "Watch..." I'll just say it was immensely gratifying to rub it in some 49er fan's faces that day!
    Brett later on in an interview said that after that play, he knew the team had something special going on. Were it not for some horrible fumble-itis, a ton of no-calls and some questionable coaching in the Championship game, that would have been our year.

      dont want to take anything away from that throw because it was an excellent pass, but lets be honest there are plenty of guys that could have made that throw (brady, manning, possibly the other manning, rodgers, stafford, hell even cutler some days) but it was all the catch. the throw didnt surprise me at all. that was simply an amazing catch off of a good throw.

      Andrew Timmerman The way he was sliding to his left and threw it to a receiver running left to right is not something another QB can do or could have done. No one has that arm strength to do all that & still throw it on a line w/ that little air under it.

      @chadrat39 Рік тому

      Ah no. Don't think you're even close to being right? Dude has tons of last minute drives that went successful
      Hard to beat his drive vs Minnesota at home 9/26/99. UA-cam Brett Favre 99 and watch one of his first passes on that drive. He fucking drops back pumps, runs full circle steps up and delivers a needle 35 yd pass for a first. Then hits Bradford on 4th for a touchdown to win it from 30 out. I was there. His 94 pass to Sharpe for the win basically was another big comeback drive. "He did what?" To Freeman as well. Think before you hype shit

    Ashame how they got robbed out of a super bowl. The 09 Vikings were no doubt the best team in the NFL that year. Saints had a very good team too but that whole overtime situation was bs. The refs basically put them in field goal range.

    • @Zoomer30
      @Zoomer30 7 років тому +11

      Yep, the refs added a rule that said "If you're a Saint, hit the QB way after the throw." It's no surprise that that crew is not in the league anymore. Probably got paid off. Coach Payton and all of those asses who were part of Bountygate should have been perma-banned from the league. Heck, Pete Rose got a LIFETIME BAN from baseball and all he did was was bet on his own team, he wasn't trying to kill anyone.
      But the NFL needed a feel good story and shredded the rule book to do it. If you're a Saint, kill the QB. If a you're a Saint, having your knees down on the 1 yard line is the same as a TD. Bullshit.

      You'd think the Diggs Minneapolis Miracle in 2017 would have been better, but I was at both games, and I gotta agree with you. Favre to Lewis '09 was the most amazing sports moment. I propose this was the most magical 10 days in Metrodome history, 9/27/09 - 10/6/09. Favre to Lewis, then Favre beating ARodg, first game against the Pack, then the Twins winning in extra innings in Game 163. That was a helluva week to be a MN sports fan.

    I am 17 years old, I first watched this live on TV in my mothers bedroom when I was only 9 years old. When Greg Lewis caught that ball I remember jumping up running around the house yelling, not even knowing if we won or not. It is strange for me to become a Vikings fan at around 2008 because I fell in love with Brett Favre this year, I never got to see when Brett was a Packer, I only remember him by this year. So old Vikings fans still don't like him, but because of how old I am I love him because of this year. Every time I watch this it still gives me chills and I even tear up a little just thinking about the NFC championship that year. I wont get into the controversy surrounding that game, just know I will be a Vikings fan for life, I will die on the Vikings boat, now let's go cheer on our 2017 team. SKOL VIKINGS!

    They were so robbed in 2009. Everybody talking about the throw across his body in New Orleans...he made that exact same throw on this drive! The pass to Harvin at about 2:00 is that same throw! it was the longest gain besides the TD! The reason they lost to New Orleans was the REFS! Go ahead and hold the throw against Favre, fine, but the game was tied before then and it stayed tied afterwards until the refs walked the Saints down the field in OT.

    I have been a Vikings fan since the KC superbowl loss. (I was 8 at the time). So I have seen many games against the hated packers. Favre was the most hated packer of them all. Never thought I would wear his jersey but I bought it the day he signed. Had my doubts at first but 2009 was our year. This catch will be replayed a billion times and it should. Greg Lewis was in the right place definitely and made a great catch and saved the season and made Minn love Favre. However, the reason the championship game was in NO instead of the metrodome was the loss to the Raiders. If we win there we beat NO and then get that illusive superbowl win. Manning was beatable. We just came up short. Saddest day I believe ever when he tossed that int. Cheer up Viking fans we always have this drive to remember and we can call this our superbowl victory. It would have been sweeter had it been those stupid packers but we will take this as the best play ever for the Vikes.

    Best game by Brett Favre. Nothing beats a game winning hail mary for a touchdown with under 3 seconds left when it's touchdown or lose. Especially against a defense like the 49ers.

    Watching this live, I knew THAT was a special throw as soon as he let it go. Never mind the circumstances it came in and ramifications thereafter. And I didn't have any ponies in that race. But to get that ball thrown on a rope while rolling out - and with pressure bearing down on him from the back and front... truly great play by one of the all time greats. And let's not forget that in 2009, the 9ers already had the makings of a league leading defense.

    The 49ers had so many close heartbreakers like this in 2009...they were lowkey one of the most talented teams in the NFL (especially on defense)

    Still the greatest play I've ever seen. I wanted Favre to win the SB that year so bad. Of course Favre had do a Favre and throw across his body for an int in the NFCCG to destroy that chance.

    This is the single greatest football play I ever remember seeing as it happened. There was probably less than a centimeter between Lewis's left foot and the back of the end zone and Favre was about 0.2 seconds away from getting it stripped by #99.

    New one now, although I think Diggs 61 yd TD should be called the "Hail Millie" for that 100 year old fan who was at her first game to see that miracle play

    I agree, but the funny part was it was only the third game in the season! I had to work that day and was forced to hear it over the radio! I am a hardcore Minnesota fan and that was TORTURE to not be able to see the play until a few hours after that! Gotta hand it to Brett, but still... Greg Lewis made a FREAKSHOW catch.
