- A deep-dive mic shootout comparing the Max Kircher MK67 'U67" mod for Neumann U87ai and TLM67 mics.
There was nothing out there about the Max Kircher U67 mod, so I've made this to share my own mic testing, I hope it's useful for those of you interested in these sorts of things! Lots of explanation about the mics and mods and audio comparing the different versions / derivatives / pre amps!

Thanks for watching!
Thx! Just picked up one of his "limited edition" stock with the Telefunken tube and new PSU. Excited to hear it:)
That sounds great! Can you share a link? Interested to see how the PSU differs?
you got it? what do you think about it?
Between a few friends & I we have 3 Max Mods, all of us use them in vintage mode (99% of the time) Otherwise would go with a 47 ! The MK works so so well with good SState Pre’s!
Thanks for your comments Paul, nice to meet other uses!
do you usually EQ your max mod? for some reason mine sounds like an SM7B…
@@jfrancis2649 thanks for the comment. I don’t find I need to EQ it as a standard approach. Although I do find it works best if it can breath a little (e.g using it on guitar or sax), rather than as an up close vocal mic. Surprised it sounds like an SM7B, I found those thinner sounding when I used them, and the MK thicker and warmer sounding, but of course the instrument it’s being used on, the room, and the pre will all have an effect. What’s your set up and what are you using the MK on? Also what did you use as your donor for the mod, an 87ai or TLM67? Cheers!
nice! I just got my Max Mod. I put it inside my U87ai.. gonna run it through my BAE1073=>CL1B and see how it sounds. the vintage U67 is hard to beat… we’ll see 🤞
Enjoy! Best thing is you can swap between the two for different sounds, but I think you’ll keep the MK in most!
you got it? what do you think about it?
@@Lukas-wx9gxit’s sounds good. It’s a little darker than a vintage U67.. so i’m swapping out the transformer for a Neumann BV12. I’m gonna make a before and after video
@@jfrancis2649 great thank you. Would u rather first get a Preamp (neve 1073) or the mod?
u67 reissued sounded the best
Ah, but worth the extra £1,000s? Also I would say the pre amp made more of a difference on this one.. Thanks for commenting!
@@repmusic well it's actually double the price
