Jamming With Strung Out - Nowheresville

Back in 2019 Halloween night I got to jam with Stung Out on stage sound check. What an experience!! It was almost a total catastrophe though. You need to be ready with your own guitar and tuned up. I knew the song like the back of my hand because I of course practiced it endlessly. I tuned my guitar at the venue like 20 times making sure. I knew the tuning was dropped down. I get up there and end up arguing with Jake about the tuning. He insisted it was in standard and not how I had it. But I knew that was wrong. After some back and forth Jake finally realized I was right but they play it standard live. And so he helped me tune it back. Fuck! That would have been awful. Had I said “oh I tuned it 20 times, I’m good” and had Jake not insisted I tune again and get it sorted out. I can’t imagine the embarrassment and awful sound that would have came out of my guitar placed along with the full band in a totally different key. Wow.
I like the song how it is on the record, I think the lower tuning sounds better but at least we were all on the same page when it was go time. Once it got going it was over so fast but I had a blast, it was an experience of a lifetime and I think I impressed them picking pretty difficult song. The Strung Out gang was so unbelievably kind and awesome. 10 out of 10 would do it again haha
