VW 36hp Fuel Pump Rebuild
Just filmed my attempt at rebuilding one of these. I haven’t seen any detailed videos like this on UA-cam so I figured this might help others see the process. This is for my 1959 VW bug 36hp engine.

Our little crappy demo recorded back in 2000 in Timothy McCune's apartment. Vocals and guitar in his bathroom. Yes it's kinda crap, okay a lot crappy but its fun to go back and listen to. Painting Lucy

A time lapse video of a commissioned painting I did of Lucy. This is many hours and days compressed into minutes. It is my first video at attempting this. I'll probably do more. Enjoy.
There are "axle tube retainer strengtheners" available that spread the load out over the whole retainer instead of just around bolts. Not only do the help seal better and prevent the warping, but they can be used to straighten out a retainer when its removed from trans. They are a little pricey and require longer studs, but well worth it.

Oh it’s not at cool as you think. I basically paid to do it. They had a “meet and greet” and if you paid extra you got to do souncheck and play a song of your choice. About 4 people did it at this show before everyone got there. It was super freaking fun and worth every penny.

Seeing this situation, I had an idea. It's possible that the original tube could be installed, and then gently tap with a hammer completely around the ball shaped area and see if it tightens it up. If not, tap a bit harder all around and check again, until it is tight enough.
Is it possible to change the gasket at the transmission end without removing the transmission from the car?
No I don’t think it’s possible at all. Especially with the engine still in. If you have the engine out, might as well pull the trans, make your end results worth it. seems a bigger headache to do this job with in in the car in my opinion. It’s tricky enough outside the car.
yeah, im going thru all this now, leaking at that plate that i THOUGHT i had hammered flat! it was the jigging that was the trickiest, getting that plate on something suitable to dolly & hammer, i even checked it with a straightedge....i AM getting good at removing the motor & trans. from the car...easier because its a buggy....still not FUN!....and i want to find the BEST sealer and gasket material THIS time!...thanks for comiseration !
