  • Just a quick video showing how I calculate and design a DIY ecosystem pond with bog filter, intake bay and stream. The idea is that by showing you how I do it you are able to create your own ecosystem pond without spending a fortune on components or kits. It's really not hard to create a pond with crystal clear water when the filters are sized correctly. You can also use cheap and common equipment to achieve this.
    If you want to view my downloadable pdf, contact me or read helpful articles to help you build a pond you can find that information at ozponds.com
    If you are looking for efficient pumps for your pond DC Sine wave pumps are some of the most efficient and affordable that I have come across. These are the type that I've used in my ponds- (amazon link) amzn.to/42PtzIs (if you make a purchase I may receive a small commission at no extra cost to you).

    Thanks Kev! Very timely, I've watched a bunch of your videos but must have missed the ones about slow flow through the bog filter - I was going to put the whole waterfall flow through the bog filter 🤪

    Great information and opinions as always. I am a guesstimator as well. Thank you for making the math available, It is a big help in pre construction process. I want to make sure I have ALL my materials on site before I build. Until then I am happy "Living the Stocktank Lifestyle". 85F and water clear as glass. Make a great weekend Kev!

      @@Ozponds 95F and still clear as glass ! Mid June in SE Louisiana is no joke. Even the rocks have very little build up. The bog filter is full of slimy algae, but it helps act like a very fine biological filter that my mechanical filter misses. Thanks Kev for your great information. I am planning to expand or rebuild my turtle pond over the winter. I utilised your information on a bog filter on my current turtle pond and made a huge difference over summer ( I live outside Lithgow). The size of this pond is pretty much what I plan to build.

      Not really a specific video. I should make one. Basically they improve circulation and decrease maintenance (netting or vacuuming the pond).

    Hey Kev
    Can you maybe do a video on combating mulm buildup on the bottom of you pond? I built a pond following your bog in a barrel guide a few years ago. The water is crystal clear, but I'm getting a rather large mulm buildup.

    Subbed! We recently bought a house with a fish pond, started watching a bunch of your videos (probably the best pond channel on youtube).
    I'd love to swim in the pond however and both the bog filter and pump are too small. I estimate the pond houses about 6500l water while we have a 3500l pump. What would be the most effective, buying a second pump where both pumps add up to 6500l or replace the pump I have now with just 1, 6500l pump?
    As for increasing bog filter size, is it better to have 1 big one, or 2 medium sized ones, in series with eachother, or with seperate cirquits in case I run 2 pumps?
    The house required a lot of work but the pond is my favourite one for sure!

    • @Ozponds
      @Ozponds  Рік тому

      6500L seems very small for a swim pond. For a swim pond you want a 25% or more bog filter. You can create two seperate ones or one big one whatever’s easier. Depending on bog or bogs final size, pump should be around 6x volume of bog. Hope that helps.

    Hi, nice video as always, How do you calculate the AVERAGE DEPH?? I´m bulding a 4x5m and in the deepest part it will be 1m. the shelves will be more or les 40-50cm wide. Thanks!!!

    • @Ozponds
      @Ozponds  Рік тому +1

      It’s guesstimating. A situation like that depending on the size of the deep zone, I might decide average depth is 60-70cm.

    Hi Kev, (or anyone). Is there any reason why you can’t just build the bog filtration area inside the pond? Water still hast to filter up through gravel etc.(?)

    • @Ozponds
      @Ozponds  Рік тому

      It’s certainly an option, many people do it. Can make back flushing a bit more challenging but that’s the only real drawback.
