Its interesting your demeanor completely changed after crossing the mountain lion. The same thing happened to me when i crossed a huge bobcat in May near Lodoga up in the mountains, that thing was so wild. The wilderness has so many wild creatures its just a matter of time we cross their paths. I camped in my tent for 6 months in the wild half the time this summer, and i have so many stories about the wild animals. Everything is amazing until the moment you hear the sound of the large animals, especially the screams. I never know exactly what is screaming at me, but i know a few times it was cats. Most of the time its deer or bears. But not always. Both the bear and deer have provided me with rude awakenings. Its all part of being out in the wilderness. The bear spray is a must, especially solo hiking

You have some of the best videos of the trail. Thank you for not panning so fast I get dizzy and can't see the views. I can't remember what you are shooting with? Keep up the great posts and the positive attitude. You are an amazing young woman. Hey, and don't adopt a "trail cat" lol.

Well Starburst.... I must admit I did not expect a discussion of "scatology" on here..... you sounded so knowledgeable!!!! Size! Shape!! But you thankfully did NOT go into smell....... thank you for that....... Years from now you will remember that moment when you thought you might become a "human tender" for the mountain lion. More trail memories! For all the craziness, you will look back on your trail days with a fondness you won't believe........ Just be sure to treat your whole LIFE like the trip........ Being bold in life will be a reward you cannot fathom at this time........ but being bold can take you places you never would have if you had just lived life instead of taking it by the throat...... You're a special lady..... do great things!!!

i live on mt hood and work at the only store here. i left some comments telling her that if she makes it to mt hood. and we are near the pct and see hikers every day now. i told her i will buy her any 22 oz beer. and we have tons. or any ice cream bar.. so i hope one day i am at work and she pops in our store... i hope she makes it. i make adventure videos here on mt hood that are pretty fun. and i know the work it takes to make videos and do this and that i and i want to reward her with some trail magic. hope she gets up here. but so many are here and been here for over a month. i feel she has to hurry. i see it snow here in october all the time. and many mt lions here also etc etc. so many are here already and i feel she is so far still. she made a video the other day saying she was in oregon. now back in cali. seems weird. unless the videos are edited or uploaded out of order.

Thank you so much for taking us along your hike. Just love seeing you hike and following your adventure. Thanks!!! I felt really bad for you knowing how scared you were. I too thought I was going to get eaten on a little section hike earlier this year. Camping in a remote area (on the Florida Trail), hearing growling and snorting from one side of my tent, and later on from both sides. Boy, was I scared. I thought I was being hunted, but it turned out I was in the middle of a little love calling between alligators. I just didn't know that they sounded so scary. Now that you have your bear spray maybe you can have a little more peace of mind. Be well and stay amazing. Thank you again. :-)

My uncle and I were hiking up in a dark canyon in Colorado, I was 12 years old. It was spooky to me, but my uncle was an experienced mountain man, I knew this because he told me. We were fishing a small lake when I got the feeling that we were being watched, I told my uncle of my feeling and he looked around and said, "Shoot it's getting dark, let's go." So we took off at a brisker pace than when we went up. Suddenly I heard a noise behind us and we stopped to see if it was another hiker, but there was no one on the trail. Then we heard this blood curdling scream that came down the canyon, I have never heard such a thing in my life since, I looked at my Mountain Man uncle and said, "What was that?" He answered, "That was a BLEEPING SCREAM!!"
I looked up the canyon and then heard a large creature crashing through the brush and turned around to see that the large creature was my uncle running and jumping over blowdowns like an Olympic jumper. I beat him out of the canyon despite my shorter legs, but I didn't smoke and he did. I never believed anything he claimed he knew about the mountains again and always kept a clear way of escape when around him as I knew if danger ever approached I just had to outrun my uncle and not a mythical mountain beast.

The Park Rangers are advising hikers in to be alert for bears and take extra precautions to avoid an encounter. They advise park visitors to wear little bells on their clothes so they make noise when hiking. The bell noise allows bears to hear them coming from a distance and not be startled by a hiker accidentally sneaking up on them. This might cause a bear to charge.
Visitors should also carry a pepper spray can just in case a bear is encountered. Spraying the pepper into the air will irritate the bear's sensitive nose and it will run away. It is also a good idea to keep an eye out for fresh bear scat so you have an idea if bears are in the area. People should be able to recognize the difference between black bear and grizzly bear scat.
Black bear droppings are smaller and often contain berries, leaves, and possibly bits of fur. Grizzly bear droppings tend to contain small bells and smell of pepper. (www.boyscouttrail.com/content/joke/watch_for_bears-606.asp)
