“Exact car Brian Vickers drove.” No, it’s not. It’s a show car. A real Cup car doesn’t have headlights or a passenger seat, revs to about 9800, and doesn’t require the clutch for shifting. Not to mention other small details.
I think the headlights and taillights are just required by the FIA, (European raicing sanctioning body) But otherwise, yeah, this was definitely converted for publicity use.
A simple "pill swap" fixes the fact it's hitting the ignition cut at under 8000rpm. And no doubt they have that set low to keep that $45,000 engine together longer. As revving the absolute crap out of it isn't needed to make the ridealong satisfied.
I absolutely dislike when an individual does not do any semblance of research. 1. It is a Stock Car not a NASCAR. Even though the vehicles are not close to stock they are still called stock cars. 2. That is a show car. It quite obvious by head light design and engine sound. A car from that era can easily hit 9,500 RPM that motor sounds like a crate/spec motor very similar to the Ilmor spec engine used by the truck series and ARCA Racing Series today. 3. An engine from that era was hitting in the est. 900bhp minimum with talks that they were hitting well over 1000bhp. I don't like hating but it seems that there is a lot of ignorance and misinformation when it comes to the portrayal of NASCAR. The whole readneck thing while accurate 40 years ago is not true today. Although a lot of fans of the sport may be considered that demographic the sport is much more than that.

He didn't mention the steering! If there's one thing everyone wants to know about stock cars, is how well they steer when you're doing something besides wide left turns.
And let's not forget that one or more NASCAR rides tend to show up at the Goodwood Festival of Speed EVERY YEAR. If Lord March (or the Duke of Richmond, if you prefer) likes 'em, they can't be all bad!
Every time I hear somebody call it a "NASCAR", I cringe. It's a STOCK CAR, though the term "NASCAR Race Car" is also acceptable. NASCAR is the sanctioning body, it's the equivalent of saying " shoot an NBA" or "kicking a FIFA"
If memory serves, NASCAR mandates iron rotors and carbon-metallic brake pads, so heat in the brakes is not the issue. Also, every F1 driver who's tried out some NASCAR iron had the same comment--"It needs about twice as much brake." Invariably followed by the NASCAR guy he was seat-swapping with responding, "That's what I tell my crew chief every weekend."
God I remember being in the pits living this lifestyle. The smell of c16 burned and loud revs. At 20 years old in the ARCA racing series I was doing refueling setting up different track spec adjustments and all in between. What a time that was.
Normally the drivers do not piss themselves because it's around 150 Fahrenheit inside the car and they sweat our most of the liquids from their body over the 5 hours in the car.
My friend has a NASCAR swapped 72 c10. But it's no 5.5 liter it's an old 502 big block(8.25 liter). It does 4 wheel burnouts and and makes a hell of a racket once you give it some coal.
If you mean fastest then 2014 Chevrolet SS NASCAR cup car, won the most races and championship that year, made 850 hp, 8 inch tall rear spoiler for plenty of downforce and could go 215 mph+ at Michigan International Speedway and 200+ and any other 1.5 mile track
@@winkerr2338 NASCAR has rules and regulations. By cutting holes and adding head lights not to mention adding a additional seat means this is no longer a regulation NASCAR. Another thing is a Toyota is not a traditional NASCAR even though they are allowed to race on the NASCAR circuit. A traditional NASCAR is better represented by a Dodge, Chevrolet or Ford not a Japanese car company. He said that car has a 5.5 V8 . In NASCAR your allowed to run 358 cubic inch engines which is larger then a 5.7. So I'm assuming this cars original engine used on the track was removed and the smaller 5.5 installed. With that said as in my original comment this is not a real NASCAR.
Mechanic Steve So what you're saying is that the Toyota Camry - designed and built in the US - shouldn't be allowed in NASCAR because it's owned by a Japanese company, but Ford and Dodge are allowed despite being owned by an Indian and Italian company?
@Mechanic Steve You can put lights and a new engine on a Formula 1 car, but its still a Formula 1 car. There's also a chance the guy got his numbers wrong.
First, it's a stock car, not a NASCAR. Second, that isn't Vickers' car. That is a replica or show car, because otherwise it wouldn't have headlights. Headlights on real NASCAR stock cars are decals. In addition, Vickers crashed out at least once, his car had damage at the 2011 Tums Fast Relief 500, so I'm sorry, your not driving Vickers's car. Third, even if it were a Camry, why did you use a 2011 model? You should've done a Jimmie Johnson ride swap or something. Fourth, the joke about water and pouring the water down their heads is not true. Fifth, the joke attempts were poor. Is this what modern Top Gear looks like? Because I miss the days when they were rolling Reliant Robins and going across Africa/South America in big old trucks. This looks... just pitiful.

Richard Hammond did it better!

Yeah
Yes he did
The old trio did everything better than new Top Gear
Wish the presenter knew more about the car and able to drive it closer to its limit. Comedic attempts did not click with me.
To be honest most of the new top gear stuff doesn't click
i just wish he would at least call it what it is. ITS STOCKCAR!!!
Agreed. This dude is using the clutch, which nascar drivers don’t use while racing. Only during a pit stop.
