I liked Harry Morgan. You could see very early elements of Colonel Potter. a movie like this could never get made today, because it would hurt somebody's feelings
This was actually a good movie. It was subversive and funny. It was not mean spirited. It was actually anti-imperialist. The movie treated the culture with enough insight to note the fact that the Okinawa people didn’t consider themselves the same as the Japanese. Fun trivia fact: This movie makes the first mention of organic food, by name, in any movie (food grown without fertilizer or pesticides).
i think i saw this when i was about 4 or 5yrs old. i remember a little girl in it and she had headlice? called it koko itchy head. lol strange how little things like that still remain in my memory after all these years.
+tristianity4u Whole another generation. In 80-90 there are a lot of asian movie stars, that can do a profitible film. In 50s not. And of course, take into account, completely different approach and understanding of motion picture.
For Brando to go from Kowalski, to Zapata, to Mark Antony, to Terry Malloy, to Sky Masterson to Sakini? How many actors have that kind of range to pull off parts from Shakespeare to prime musical comedy, and to do all of them so well, that in fact some are now iconic?
Jeee-sus. I'm guessing that Machiko Kyo was blinded by the glitter of being offered a 'Hollywood' role. This looks so at odds with the rest of her repertoire.
I am sure that she took the role for good reasons. It is a bit presumptuous of you to think you know the reasons better than she. Lastly, she brought a range to the role that only a great actress could - especially when she didn't speak English in the film.
Since you really don't know for sure, you shouldn't comment. She was their most famous 'female' actress. And played in Kurosawa's films, aling with Mifune. Grow up

I tried to upload the full movie. But UA-cam blocked it due to copyright claim. : - (
邦題:八月十五夜の茶屋(1956年製作・公開)
撮影は沖縄ではなく奈良で行われたそうです
R.I.P. Machiko Kyo
This does not age well

Yes, it had insights and heart too.
Sounds like a japanese soldier in a WW2 cartoons dubbed by Mel Blanc.
Don't let the trailer colour your view of the film. It has quite a lot to it if you give it a chance. And Brando's performance is amazing.
You walk any faster sock falls down. 🤣🤣🤣
I would like watch this film, please tell me how can I do?

How come Tom Hanks never plays Japanese stereotypes?

京マチ子さん美しい
Great light, military comedy. Loved it. Brando shows his diversity, and brilliance as an actor

Cuando la pone otra vez x favor? La he buscado x muchos años

The lion for this was George believe it or not

Sad life for the actress,
This looks utter pish.
It's not pish. It's great
It was good.
Good pish.
Cringe worthy
Why? It's a great movie. Just cuz you only like fast and furious cgi, blow ups, car chases, etc. doesn't mean others have better taste
You didn’t see the movie.
@@NoahSpurrier I think seeing the trailer is enough
@@martinwoyzeck2634 hmm, maybe because it has a white man donning yellow-face? But that's just a guess.

Haha, Japan's most famous movie star. I highly doubt it, given this was the era of Toshiro Mifune
