For the confusion, Oni is a “what if” character similar to Evil Ryu if they were both COMPLETELY consumed by the hado. So Oni > Shin Akuma since Akuma still has humanity in his Shin form.
Evil Ryu isn't really considered a what-if. Since he fits more canonically into the lore than Oni does. I'd say that Oni is to Akuma as Kage from SFV is to Ryu. Both are the literal and physical embodiment of the Satsui No Hado. Or Evil Ryu for that matter but, he just does what Akuma does since both tap into Dark Hado.
Just popped up on my timeline... what made Oni so great is not too many people played him. Everyone had a "pocket" Evil Ryu, especially near the end of SF4. Nobody had a pocket Oni (though I think Infil did lol). I always enjoy someone taking a less frequently used character, that may not be top "S tier" for one reason or another, and just showing how good they can be. Eyemusician does this in T7 with Yoshi, and its fun to watch.
Oni may only be like, at BEST mid-tier, but he's still my favorite character just because of how AWESOME he can be to get a win with. Nothing else in the entire series beats landing a Raging Demon in the air, or getting a KO with the godlike Ultra 2.
3:20 Galaxy brain play. Throwing out the projectile and then throwing out the super knowing Chun would throw out her own to stop the ultra, but Oni's projectile blocking hers and allowing him to get in and deliver.

@@Ran_Itsuki Oni's potential just isnt that high. His mixups are mostly fake, even when you spend meter. His footsy game is pretty weak due to his short fast normals. His long range normals are all focus bait. If you compare his normals to the other shotos, they are mostly weaker in some key areas, most notably his cr mk, which is the worst of Ken, Ryu, E Ryu, and Akuma. Ken and Oni both have a step kick with a counter hit confirm, ken's is faster with better range and a better hitbox. Too much of Oni's power is in his ability to confirm and setup raging demon and his fadc combos. Those 2 things do not mesh well together. He has a demon for literally every situation. But saving meter for demon is a huge sacrifice to everything else. There is a reason the best Oni's dropped him toward the end of the game. Even sanford had mostly switched back to Sagat and ran Ken instead of Oni. I hope to see Oni again at some point, Kage had all of Oni's weakness and none of his strengths.

@Jim Milton Gill beats both Oni and Evil Ryu 2v1. Gill reverts them back to normal. It's in the Udon Street Fighter comics. Hyper Fighting or something. But either way, Udon comics are not canon. Because if they were Shin Ryu would be stronger than the entire SF cast save for probably Oro. Shin Ryu beat Gill on his own and then beat Oni who then reverted back to Akuma. The Udon SF comics also imply that SFV Akuma can still transform into Oni at will but he is just training since he lost to Shin Ryu.
@Fwuffycodbunny Oro sense that if they both fought (idk if it includes both of there final form but i think it does include there full power) Both of them will die

It's intentional. Like Kage after him, Oni forgoes precision and technique in favor of overwhelming power and pure murderous intent. There is no principle or anything of the sort holding him back. He's not looking to hit you in the right spot, he just wants to hit you hard enough to stay down

Evil Ryu was wayyyy stronger than Oni for destructive combos, cunning setup and in good player hands could be a massive problems. Player like Daigo, Momochi played Evil Ryu to the perfection and won a lot of tournament

He didn't have what good characters needed to have in sf4, and what he was good at, plenty of other characters were as good or better at with fewer weaknesses. Very stylish and fun, but ultimately not worth it in a super competitive environment.

Also, should oni be a guest char in DBFZ? The hair seems to fit
FGC Highlights I'm sure shin akuma is stronger but I'm sure someone will correct me.
Oni is Akuma's final form. Cannonically, Oni is stronger
Canon = Oni.
In-game = Oni < Akuma < Shin Akuma = Boss Oni.
And yeah. Oni would fit right in DBZ. HEll Akuma would too.
Oni is akuma if akuma lets the satsui no hado fully consume him. No holds barred. Oni is stronger than shin akuma.
Oni
For the confusion, Oni is a “what if” character similar to Evil Ryu if they were both COMPLETELY consumed by the hado. So Oni > Shin Akuma since Akuma still has humanity in his Shin form.
Not really a "what if" character if they're both cannon.

They’re not canon. They never happen in the story therefore they’re not canon. They’re just cool characters based on what if scenarios.
