    First and foremost MAJOR CORRECTION - ESPN does not have an OPT OUT of the ACC Agreement because the contract ENDS as of June 30, 2027. ESPN had an option to OP IN or extend the ACC Agreement to June 30, 2036 which expired in 2021 without extending the agreement. Then in Auguest 2021 Phillips of the ACC granted ESPN a new option to extend the contract to ESPN (without the membership approval. So that option is likely not legal. It has an end date of Feb 1, 2025. Ross should have corrected you because he has admitted he his aware of the difference. So please report accurately that the ESPN option must be exercised as opposed to doing nothiing and the ESPN/ACC Agreement expires on June 30, 2027. Thank you.

      The opt in seems to be legal so I expect espn to extend until 2,036. They have no incentive to let the contract expire if it’s such a good deal for espn as fsu is alleging.

      @@willn851 Why would they opt in to 2036? We don't even know what the playoff will look like in 2026. ESPN is not committing to a non-power 2 conference for 2 years longer than they are even committed to the SEC.
      With everything else in college athletics changing, nearly yearly it seems like, I find it hard to believe the ACC (of all things) will be the one conference that the networks want to keep the unhappy teams inside the conference for.

      @@willn851 Terms of the ACC agreement released were redacted for public viewing regarding the ESPN "option to extend to 2036" However, court and attorneys for FSU have seen the agreement in it's entirety. According to attorney complaint the option was granted to ESPN to extend was made by the ACC unilaterally without a vote from member institutions and is therefore null. We'll probably know pretty soon if FSU and Clemson give notice of their intent to leave the ACC in August.

    • @edbagley2743
      @edbagley2743 Місяць тому

      @@willn851 ESPN does, not only is the option invalid, but the definition of "Conference Institution" requires a university is a member of the conference. Therefore if FSU and Clemson (possibly more) leave then ESPN must continue to pay the ACC the same amount (as the ACC added members) but would not have ad revenue generation without the 'cash cows.' Thus ESPN loses revenues and possibly loses profit and even could have losses.

    What choice do they have? It's simple... but somehow getting lost here, is the FACT that FSU, and ALL the teams in the ACC, cannot compete on a national level with the current financial disparity. And the ACC conference, who suddenly wants to "fight to the end"... to what? Hold all the teams hostage to die a slow financial death??? If you sit back and look at it
    You have the ACC. Solid Southern Conference. Then if you expand up the coast and take the teams of the old big East football Conf add the service academy's with UMass and UConn , Delaware, Liberty , you have all the major east coast media markets and traditional rivals that you can have a true north South conference split .with both fan bases eager to see the bragging rights It will take awhile for some northern teams to catch up but the potential money is thier

      I have a bachelor’s degree in business and now with big money in college sports things are changing. I know the mediation means a settlement is coming. Jim Phillips knows the boot is coming for him if he does not say the ACC will fight to the end. ESPN knows that the ACC does not bring the money like the SEC and Big 10. I believe ESPN will not renew the ACC Network after 2027. All I want to know is where will all of the schools go when the ACC dissolves. The other reason I believe that ESPN will not renew the ACC agreement after 2027 ends is to save money when ESPN goes to a streaming only media away from traditional television.

    FSU will either be stuck in the ACC (due to an expensive buyout) or take partial shares wherever they end up. Or they can try to go independent and attempt to challenge ND for that easy playoff spot.

    • @reverend_wintondupree
      @reverend_wintondupree Місяць тому +3

      Going independent is not that simple. Besides the media deal and possible revenue shortfall against their ACC revenue, whose is FSU going to be able to schedule as an independent? ND atleast has the benefit of 5 gauranteed ACC opponents.
      Is anyone from the ACC going to schedule FSU when they leave? The SEC may move to 9 conference games and with all but UConn/ & ND remaining as independents, there will be significantly fewer options for FSU to schedule P4 schools.

    • @tremoore61
      @tremoore61 Місяць тому

      @reverend_wintondupree This is going to be long, I apologize in advance.
      Yes, going independent will be difficult. That's a last resort option if they don't want partial shares until the next round of media contracts.
      ND already set the formula for how to go about being independent. Partner with a network, and the network could depend on where FSU would ultimately want to end up. CBS is the best bet at this moment. They used to have 1st pick of the SEC games they wanted. They lost that. Now they're battling for B1G games. NBC has ND and battling for B1G games. Copy their formula. Enter into an agreement with the B1G or the SEC if that's where they want to go after the next round of media rights. It's a win/win for both. High profile games all around. You'll be able to schedule Florida, Miami, & Clemson off the top. You'll be able to schedule any ACC teams that wanted to leave a well. That, plus a 5 game agreement with the conference you'll eventually be joining. I'm thinking NC will be willing to schedule, as well as any team in need of a big game. UCF will crawl over broken glass to be on FSU's schedule. That's potentially 9 big games (5 agreement games + FL + Clem + MIA + UCF). I, as an LSU man, would LOVE a get back game against FSU. Or an annual game, we already play Florida every year. USF & Florida Atlantic wouldn't mind either. But if you want max dollars, the Big12 needs high profile games since they don't have premier team in the conference anymore. Utah, K-State, Kansas... here and there would be down for a match-up. Texas Tech no longer has Texas... you can aim to do what nobody has done, and try to have a P5 only schedule. The options are plentiful if you get the scheduling agreement with the SEC or B1G. Worst case, the Big12 will definitely be down for an agreement. As long as you get the green light from the P2, they're golden. You may have to make the Big12 believe that they are a legitimate option. Or keep it at 9 good games, and schedule FAU & USF along with 1 cupcake. And rotate the G5 opponents.
      In my personal opinion, a schedule agreement will be easier with the SEC. Simply because not every SEC member has an annual P5 OOC game. Only UGA, FL, KY, & USC have one. So, a scheduling agreement will give other teams the same headache Florida gets on a rotation. But I might be biased.

    Sorry bringing Harbaugh back after what he did is ludicrous beyond belief. His coaching, while great for the outcomes, has now brought more distrust and shame on a great program with a great history until the cheating scandal. If FSU did stay in the ACC, for some reason, the officiating would have to improve and be more fair. FSU has lost a number of games due to bad calls by the refs. Enough to the point that the conference would have to hire seeing referees, as opposed to the blind pigs they have now. Not calling the refs pigs but even a blind pig finds an acorn occasionally, so does even an ACC ref make a good call.
