bruh what I really loved about Cata, Wrath, and BC. The player character is still a nobody of sorts. Sure there are comments here and there of our exploits. Over all are part of the story, just behind the scenes. It also felt like it. Like yeah there are some main NPC guys doing the story part, but we are the hero adventuerers who are setting out and getting the job done. It was a good balance to me. Keeping us players just enough in the lore. I think pandaria and beyond really strayed away. No hate on it, but the importance of the player charcter was starting to be a bigger plot point. This however I will complain about. They make us feel important as the expansion go on, but that removes us from the pack mentallity of adventurerers banding together to get the job done. It is like we are there, but the NPCs take all the important stuff, but we get shafted with duties that we are told is important.... Legion was a great breathe of fresh air. It highlighed out charcters more, but also highlighted the other adventuerers, or classes. It felt again like we are banding together to face the odds. It just seems like every expansion from Cata on had the same problem of content droughts and people leaving. Blizz too focused on maintaining ties with China and being woke AF that these days they'd rather erase pictures of in-game art inside dungeons because "eww, women" than actually making engaging content that would keep people around. And yeah, I hate that Legion retconned Deathwing so that he was never in Deepholm, but instead hiding out in Thunderbl... I mean, Highmountain and that the tauren there actually fought and defeated him.
Lots of people hated Vashjir. But I feel I wanted to see more of the underwater parts. We never saw what happened to Ozumat. I was really sad when L'Ghorek died.
Visually vash'jir is probably the coolest zone in the game in my opinion. I think the scale of the zone was off putting and the fact that unless you were on the ocean floor fighting it was sometimes difficult determining the range of your targets but overall I enjoyed the zone and the questing involving the Naga was pretty good
Yeah Cata was nice honestly. Used to get bad rep, but that's probably because it was the expansion after Wrath, which people liked a lot. Personally all I've disliked about it, was the removal of some content, like Atiesh. That moment when Xalatah blade dissapears after stabbing N'zoth and that look on Wrathion's face... that exact moment gives me hope that N'zoth somehow managed to survive...
I still don't get how they made that awesome cinematic with Wrathion flying in to stab N'zoth's carapace but then we dispatch N'zoth with the friendship laser beam as a cutscene. Gives me hope maybe that was an illusion from the Old God's specialty, and we will face the real N'zoth again in the future. Maybe Azshara was in it too.
@@Athelarius exactly man, I dont know if Im being delusional, but I see so many hints.. remember Nzoth quote “Go, but the blade must remain… to serve my will”? But seeing how they are handling the Jailer story right know, Im slowly loosing hope
@@Athelarius have asked Teran about this before, why some incredibly pivotal moments are cutscene not cinematic. And it boils down to including the player - they still can't do rendered cinematics that incorporate the player character with all customisations/race/etc. Certainly not ideal, and it does take away some from the moment for it to be in-engine, but for now is where the compromise lands.
19:00 i recall getting that far in the raid with my buddies and seeing thrall blow up deathwings back and say, "were on that back." and we all busted up cause we were pretty sure Thrall just killed us.
Best dragon in fantasy. And a voice to rival that of the Lich King. Absolutely fantastic especially in the launch cinematic. Just wish we saw his human model as well. If 4.3 was a stronger fleshed out patch, Cataclysm would’ve been perfect.
@@himlolo Plus, you didn't have to do Naxx, Ulduar, etc, after icecrown patch you just had to do the first random lfg, farm ICC trash mobs, and go farm emblems in PoS to get ICC starter gear
Honestly I think cata started incredibly strong, then it took way too long for 4.2, which had a great raid but was very short, and theb 4.3 ruined it. The first month or so of cataclysm was absolutely amazing
Cata was great at launch. 4.1 with the Zandalari dungeons was also great. 4.2 was a great tier and then 4.3 just felt half scrapped. Didn’t even get a full patch trailer. But I loved Well of Eternity. That and we didn’t see enough of that Daddy Deathwing Human model.
Not at all. Thoroughly enjoyed 4.3. My favorite dungeons, farming those chaos orbs, getting that Gurthulak to counter rogues. Great memories. Just storywise felt rather abrupt. But it definitely kept us occupied until MoP hit. Seems like only yesterday, the years go by too fast.
The one downside from cata was with fighting against Deathwing as the endgame boss, idk, I guess it didn't look nor feel right to me. But when Rag came back, Firelands became my favorite raid out of the whole expac
They only brought rag back cause people like you were complaining that the game was changing too much. This was the xpac that started transmogs, an act to appease the loud minority that wanted to relive the old days and complain that the game was changing too much. So Blizz's answer to that was to allow people to wear transmogs. And the moment they did all you saw were T1/T2/T3 mogs for the rest of the xpac. Now look what the game has become.
@@kedololx I hear what you're saying, but I was merely saying that DW as an endgame boss was pretty disappointing, but what do I know? Also I don't see what's wrong with xmogs aside from minor issues.
The story and lore of Cata was actually pretty damn good. And I loved that expansion. That is the expansion where I've made friends with the majority of my WoW buddies and we even still talk to this day. And for that reason, cata is my favorite expansion
Cata had the most balanced pvp of all the expansions. Even a swifty made all the warrior vs all class videos. I had best time of my life in gaming, period.
You must have forgotten how broken affliction warlock and resto shaman were During cata. Wind heat had a 4 second cooldown and basically all top arena comps had these two classes
Going from Wotlk to Cataclysm was amazing. I guess I had a unique experience, but people forget subscriber numbers were insane at this time. The leveling, dungeons, pvp, and heroic raiding was at an all time high in my opinion. Just look at the player competition at the time. The videos, arena teams, or raiding like Paragon put out. 25 Man Heroic Nefarian was such a badass experience. Al' Akir in Throne of the Four Winds?! Man, I'd kill to relive that time in WoW. Best time I ever had in that game until raid finder and 4.3 came out with Dragon Soul, then I agree it just ended lackluster.
The player competition that only like 1% of playerbase cared about? I'm pretty sure catering to that 1% is one of the (many) things that made number of subs drop
Really loved Cata. Had a great start, dungeons were great, loved Deathwing's cinematic intro and having him go around burning everyone to a crisp. The 4.1 troll dungeons were fun, and 4.2 was a really great raid tier although a bit short. Really would've loved to see more of Neptulon and the water themed raid. Then 4.3 is where things get a bit sour as Dragon Soul felt rather lackluster aside from spine and madness, but Well of Eternity was a really good dungeon, would've been better as a raid. And then the music is still so good, with Xaxas, Shattering and Nightsong among my personal favorites.
What really gets me nostalgic are the soundtracks, the environment, and the old spell animations. The moment they revamped the animations, that's when I was like "nahhh"

Jailer: "...and I am the ultimate representation of the cosmic force of DEATH." Deathwing: "Correct." Jailer: "So then you serve Death, aka me, right?" Deathwing: "Nah I like the Void." Jailer: *visible confusion*
We used to spam chat with POWAH in sync every time we used to run hour of twilight. Seems like only yesterday. I loved Well of Eternity the best though!
FANTASTIC edit. Especially as someone who began in Legion and was unable to experience this, thank you for taking the time to string everything together
Even better when we were adventurers experiencing different conflicts throughout Azeroth. Next up they'll probably initiate us into the Pantheon with these power levels.
Same. But honestly, MoP has better environment and ambient music. I loved spending my time in the tavern in the mist just listening to the tavern music
Cataclysm had some of my favorite music such as Nightsong and The Shattering, but absolutely loved the chaotic orchestral and chants that were present throughout the expansion. Especially Xaxas.
Cataclysm really was an amazing time. It's when most of the content creators we all watch got their start on UA-cam it's when twitch became a thing. Sure cata had it's downsides but I loved cataclysm and would play cata classic.
@@slaayerr1 I quit the game after cata and came back for legion and stopped halfway into BFA. Shadowlands brought me back but the dance party boss fight in castle nath killed the feeling raiding gave me. Not because it was difficult or anything but it was like this is not what a boss mechanic should be. It felt like a slap in the face after amazing raids they brought out in the past like ulduar and shit
He has his share of responsibility in the events that made the expansion Warlord of Draenor. Then, the events of this expansion brought Gul'dan on Azeroth.
Thank you. Cataclysm is one of my favorite expansions, especially loved Deathwing, the Aspects and the Old gods lore. Shame 4.3 was a bit weak in execution, which gives the expansion a bad rep.
Thrall is the most pure Elemental soul in this world. Even Alexstraza said that he is the true Azeroth protector. Finally the primordial forces ,the ELEMENTS, can bring harmony. Anyway, great cinematics
Ah yes cataclysm. That is when i finally got wow subscribtion to work and be able to play. My Main shaman enchamant goblin WoWgoblin. Thoose were nice days.
Kinda cute hearing Deathwing saying all this about him being death, his realm is death, the unmaker of worlds, now we have the jailer which is a few levels higher.

"I am death, My realm is death" makes no appearance in the Underworld during shadow lands - Blizzard logic But I Do wonder where he would have ended up since Garrosh ended up in Revendreth and Arthas went to the maw and Kael'Thas was in castle nathria where would deathwing end up if he was put in shadow lands?
You have my respect for filming till deathwing's madness, i myself couldnt even destroy the last plate on his spine on took me how many tries and rage quitted.
This was the last good expansion of WoW. Granted I guess most people wouldn't even give this expansion the respect of saying it was good. They polished so many aspects of the game and it went overlooked because people didn't want Azeroth's landscaped changed. Shame it's all in the past. Guess everybody who stuck around after Cataclysm must be super proud of everything since? I see videos of MoP, Legion, Shadowlands, etc... I've no regrets ending my subscription late into Cataclysm.
@@TheTonytone77 nah, game was super homogenized by then and the balance was out of hand making it feel like a dead game when pre-wod pruning was put in place. While it wasnt the worst expansion of all time it was the worst at its time.
Yeah watching Deathwing vs. N'Zoth really confirmed to me WoW has got the same fate as Warcraft Reforged. All its assets.. textures.. cutscenes.. nothing is produced by Blizzard but only cheap half-competent companies from india, china and god knows where. Just made by companies for the cheapest price without any heart and soul. I spit on Activision Blizzard for doing this to this beloved franchise. And spit on Bobby Kotick.
The soundtrack used here especially in cata, where i can get these versions of those masterpieces ? Btw. Anybody knows lyrics to any firelands or deathwing pieces?
The old gods was using deathwing to create dragon soul and help burning legion to invade this world, I member they are stronger than Sargeras in the original lore, and the arrival of Sargeras can undermine their prison and make them free
@Naveen KV It’s N’Zoth, cause he is the Old God responsible for Azshara’s bs, the corruption of the Earth Warder (AKA Deathwing), etc. Books such as the chronicle explain it too. His Voice is the same too

Ragnaros should've done more in contrast with Neptulon and the scrapped water raid as well.
From what I could gather from documentaries Cataclysm served as inspiration for lots of systems and storytelling for Final Fantasy 14 2.0 Considering their first Expansion was about dragons that makes only too much sense.. except.. their storytelling is just... so so so so so much better.. and their appreciation of the player and their time is also much clearer than in WoW. I wish I was smart enough to swap between FF14 and WoW when Cata released but I was adhering to stupid tribalism like all my friends and guildmates only having stupid prejudice towards FFXIV.. A mistake I will regret for a long time.. could've been so awesome to play both games actively during this content.. When Yoshi-P asked his staff to play other MMOs it was at the end of Cata and the beginning of MoP
Finally! Everyone loving cata, bought bloody time it got recognised as the legendary expansion that it was. Hardest dungeons and raid in the entire series pre nerf, rated battlegrounds to bring back the ranking system and who could forgot the goblin starter zone 🤤
This is a bit of nostalgia. This was not a bad expansion. However, the writing was up and down. We got Green Jesus. I did enjoy Deathwing as the end boss. It was kind of weird his size kept changing throughout the expansion.
Dad's on Draenor was decent for lvling in my eyes. I liked cata for just watching my mom, my 11 to 13 yr old mind was amazed to watch her play and heal raids cheering her on and ragging on her till I got told to go to my room or go to bed or whatever. Looking back it's great to have memories.
How is this more of ominous and world-ending than SL? I always liked cata expansion. A lot of people hated that they ruined old azeroth by tearing up the land due to deathwings power, cause it trampled on their "memories", but seeing those lands I knew so much broken into a shadow of what it use to be made me feel like that was MY home being torn up. Maybe that's why I like cata better cause I don't care about Shadowlands or what happens to it.
Cause unlike Zovaal (whose the Fallen Arbiter of the Realms of Death), Deathwing is of the Dragon Aspects, whose entire fantasy and whatnot is grounded to Azeroth and the Titans, who to us are OUR makers, but still is bound by the fantasy we know of namely. Zovaal is more cosmic and fell as soon as he was introduced basically lmao. Doesn't help he had almost no development nor character tbh.

Kinda funny how he razes so much by just flying close to things, like the dam in Dun modr. But he can land with incredible force on the roof of Stormwind without much breaking at all :D
It changed a lot of the old play style, removed things we were used to, I personally didn’t like 10 and 25 sharing lockouts and dropping same gear but I did thoroughly enjoy the questing experience, especially Twilight Highlands
I agree with this, although I did enjoy the Harrison Jones questline in Uldum. That was fun. Unfortunately, as a vanilla player, Cataclysm changed things too much for me, and thus I took a 5 year break from the game before coming back to it at the tail end of WoD. Played through the tail end of Legion (patch 7.3.5), and then retired from retail.
I started at wrath launch as the BIGGEST NOOB..I mean literally, armor pen stacking my ret pally until I finally started to understand how the game worked and I began to understand how classes worked. Didn't like cata at launch because of the massive changes that came with the game, which are now miniscule comparatively, but the game was good then. Now, I don't even know what's going on with the reintroduced 4 sets let alone lore, which is why we all began playing..because the story brought us in.
Cata had bad reviews because of it.s expectations. After LK who was the peak of WoW, people wanted much much more even if the expansion was a good one and had so much content.
@@angamaitesangahyando685 i mean dont get me wrong, TBC and woltk were pretty mediocre in their own right. But we reached another level of bad cartoon villain deathwing and the incompetent aspect were unleashed. Mop had the better lore tho, assuming you deal with garrosh as bad character. But you know it s bad when the pseudo joke expansion has better lore than litteral northrend.
God, the quality really shifts around. 0:00, cutscene using in-game models but good rigging and animation work, and even a little Jack Sparrow reference, great. 0:57, trailer cutscene, extremely high quality CGI, amazing by any metric. Then you get 4:44 - canned in-game animations, cheap effects, no care for everything clipping into everything else (why did you even pick this area if everything was going to clip!?), and mediocre-at-best dialogue. I don't want to play WoW, I want to play the damn trailer!

@@Athelarius I really enjoyed it, I had a great group of guildies. Is it bad that I enjoyed patch 4.3 lol
‘I sense danger’
- Ysera, while Deathwing goes absolutely ham in the background.
The one downside from cata was with fighting against Deathwing as the endgame boss, idk, I guess it didn't look nor feel right to me. But when Rag came back, Firelands became my favorite raid out of the whole expac
So good raid
Firelands was pretty dope I'll admit. Not many good raids after Wrath but I did very much enjoy Firelands.
@@kedololx projecting much?
The story and lore of Cata was actually pretty damn good. And I loved that expansion. That is the expansion where I've made friends with the majority of my WoW buddies and we even still talk to this day. And for that reason, cata is my favorite expansion
Cata had the most balanced pvp of all the expansions. Even a swifty made all the warrior vs all class videos. I had best time of my life in gaming, period.
finally someone sees it was fucking amazing. I never pvped until cata and stopped mid thru MOP it was sweet
Pvp balance was unbeaten in cataclysm. Homogenization was there but wasnt a problem until MoP
You must have forgotten how broken affliction warlock and resto shaman were During cata. Wind heat had a 4 second cooldown and basically all top arena comps had these two classes
true
Wrathion smiling everything is so creepy and also his positive mental attitude.

I joined to the game during bfa... And cataclysm content is my favourite!
This takes me back to when I first started playing during Cataclysm.
back when we was just mere mortals and not champions of azeroth lmao
Even better when we were adventurers experiencing different conflicts throughout Azeroth. Next up they'll probably initiate us into the Pantheon with these power levels.
Well at least his father was avenged even if it wasn’t in the right way
They should bring back n'zoth
idk why they retcon such a cool villian
I love how you picked all the good moments

I like how half of all WoW voice acting is just Metzen talking to himself.
Thrall is the most pure Elemental soul in this world. Even Alexstraza said that he is the true Azeroth protector. Finally the primordial forces ,the ELEMENTS, can bring harmony. Anyway, great cinematics
Which is stupid because he's not even from Azeroth

Kinda cute hearing Deathwing saying all this about him being death, his realm is death, the unmaker of worlds, now we have the jailer which is a few levels higher.
But the Jailer is the TRUE mastermind behind ALL TRUE masterminds!

Quite the coincidence this and the 10.0 leak we're brought to my recommended and were posted back to back xD

Cataclysm was a great expansion ☺️

Did you cut the aftermath of Alex vs Deathwing or I was watching something else yesterday?
oh god those ingame cinematics in cata. also deathwing poofed into sparkles
