If you never were a gangster you won’t understand nothing I said.

@ChinaMac, from an ABC to another ABC, those festivals actually aren't "Buddhist," rather they're Chinese/Taiwanese Folk Religion festivals, which generally combines Daoism, Buddhism, and Confucianism together.

This is strictly a Fujian/Taiwan thing. Mainly coastal FJ. It's unheard of in other parts of China. Very local, superstitious, folklore.

While I’m not sure if the festival in the video is strictly local to coastal Fujian or Taiwan, elements of this folk religion can also be found in Teochew, Hakka, Taishan, and the Chinese diaspora. It blends aspects of Daoism, Buddhism, and Confucianism, making it a broader tradition than just one regional practice.
I would also add that while distinct, even Japanese Shinto, Korean Shamanism, Vietnamese Folk Religion has some cross-cultural influence with Chinese religious practices that are not unlike the festivals displayed in the video.
