I love hearing Annie perform her songs acoustic - when she plays electric, with the synthesizers, it blows my mind that those are versions of the very simple acoustic songs. Annie Clark is a Genius!
I'm a 19 year old male that has my ear up against songs the same way a hound dog's pecker always seems to travel to that very same hydrant his nose likes the best, and after all these years of listening and watch, I'm happy to tell you, that you've sifted through some terrible shit in the past I'm sure, but ladies and gentlemen it was fucking worth it, because you found it right here, what it's all been adding up to - this is hands down one of the most beautiful performances I've ever witnessed
probably the coolest guitar player ever, she looks like she could pull off a sick prank, like mabey look geeky and up to no good and just pick up a guitar in the middle of maby a show or something of that nature...then after fuck up a lil so the crowd would be like "get off stage" or "shes cool" and then after just pull off some sick licks u know...other than that st. vincent is dope
@LilRyan732 I read an interview where she said all the songs from Strange Mercy started on acoustic guitar, where she would normally start on other instruments/computery things. This might be how the song was originally conceived, which is amazing to think about!
@buckleygeneration @nahooper It is best finest surgeon. Annie actually got the lyrics from Marliyn Monroe's diary. " best finest surgeon, Lee Strasberg, come cut me open." He was her acting coach and a big mentor to her. She said 'I thought it was strange and really brilliant. Its all on her world cafe session which is amazing.
Did Larry Klein have anything to do with the songwriting of "You Only Live Twice"? Kidding. I will have to give that Bond theme a listen to hear what you guys mean, I do not have instant recall on that tune. This take, the environment, vocals on this song and outtro chords=a real gem.
@Cheddar420ful yes it does :) I saw a vid of her where she says it herself 'you problably know this one, because it sounds like the james bond theme' xD
I just did, and posted it to Ultimate Guitar.com under the title "Surgeon (acoustic)". It should be publicly available within a few days. Be sure to rate it! :)
@LilRyan732 Well, she wrote it stripped down, so I don't think that she had too much trouble, but I know what you mean. The ambiance from the studio version is, to put it plainly, fucking awesome
I'm really impressed with how good this song sounds so stripped down like this. She has an awesome voice.
So beautiful! Wow!
Dianna Sion your look coincides with the music you like jajajaja
why do you look like her
I love this woman, to make an acoustic version of Surgeon is an epic win, Annie Clark you're the best Coachella could help me discover
Have the hugest crush on Annie, she is awesome!

I'm a 19 year old male that has my ear up against songs the same way a hound dog's pecker always seems to travel to that very same hydrant his nose likes the best, and after all these years of listening and watch, I'm happy to tell you, that you've sifted through some terrible shit in the past I'm sure, but ladies and gentlemen it was fucking worth it, because you found it right here, what it's all been adding up to - this is hands down one of the most beautiful performances I've ever witnessed
this video makes you just stare. she is amazing.
Such an awesome song, the last part gives me chills.
so much talent in one little body
The first time she says, "Best find a surgeon, come cut me open," is everything.
love the album version, but this song....in acoustic it's simply beautiful
I am obsessed with her. I am at her mercy.

Nothing like a real voice.
@LilRyan732 She didn't actually strip it down. She wrote it as an accoustic. Same as every other song on the album.
I want to be like her when I grow up.
you are so damn perfect, Annie! Loveya! x
Her make up looks flawless
I'm a girl and I must say: Jesus Christ. I LOVE YOU. You are absolute perfection.
About time ;P I was about to upload this version myself :P
Lmfao! She has such a great sense of humor! I love her!
HOW COULD ANYONE DISLIKE THIS....
This girl sitting next to me in the library nods in approval of what im watching :D
"If it doesn't translate good to acoustic, chances are is not a good song". Don't remember who said it.
This sounds good to me, Therefor...
I like this version fine, but the best part of seeing this song live to me is watching her play the chorus part while singing.
She is so fucking beautiful.
wow pure emotion hard to watch her sing this shes been hurt =/ so amazing tho

i like this WAY better than the album version!
MARRY ME ANNIE!
Annie Clark is my Idea of Perfection
plot twist. it was the surgeon who cut me open. I love this song and...wow!
@Dapperdan2009 It's "best finest surgeon" she talks about it in an interview. It's a marilyn monroe quote.
god, this is so intense in the best way.
DAT VOICE x_x Im diying in here
@akboehmer She did indeed write it on acoustic. Check out the video on the AV Club's site.
Annie, you are the most fascinating woman in the world.
@biancaequalsfun I think the verse is D, C, B, (special voicings,) chorus is Bm, I haven't worked on he rest yet
Wow
i love you
She even sort of rocks out on acoustic! Amazing.
she needs to do an acoustic album
simple & pretty, the vocals sound great, those lyrics slice even sharper
Intense.
People arguing about marrying Annie--Dudes, she could have pretty much any person who has heard her music. Maybe she just wants to hang out.
Oh my....different (in a good way), and equally as Good as with the band. In my humble opinion .
@Cheddar420ful yes it does :) I saw a vid of her where she says it herself 'you problably know this one, because it sounds like the james bond theme' xD
Listen to the studio version. Also, I recommend you listen to something off of Actor or Marry Me before listening to Strange Mercy.
In strange mercy she really through away the strange forward facing melodies in her first 2 albums. It's different but still awesome.
@LilRyan732 she actually wrote it on an acoustic initially, if you can believe that.
I just did, and posted it to Ultimate Guitar.com under the title "Surgeon (acoustic)". It should be publicly available within a few days. Be sure to rate it! :)
I'd bet that she hadn't even practised that beforehand and just played completely differently to how she normally plays it off the cuff.
"On the record there's a dance jam."
@LilRyan732 Well, she wrote it stripped down, so I don't think that she had too much trouble, but I know what you mean. The ambiance from the studio version is, to put it plainly, fucking awesome
If you like this you really need to listen to her comedy bang bang performance it was fucking amazing.
I couldn'ta put it better myself.
@nav2491i Yes I am! Fresno, CA!!! GO DOGS!!!
@fresnostateofmind are u from fresno?
FINALLY SOMEONE THAT CAN SING!!!!
"Indie community" take note. I'm sick of your pretentiously delicate, overly breathy vocals.
