    Thank for the video!!
    I watch all your videos as soon as they come out.
    I love fishing with this reel, even though I feel like it's inferior to the Legalis in every aspect except weight, and even that is kind of a cheat because it's not really a 1000 size reel.
    But still, the weight reduction feels so amazing to me, and for such an affordable price, that it makes up for the lower quality drag and overall performance.
    Also, I really love the fact that it doesn't have an anti-reverse. I honestly don't understand why reels even have this feature.

    When Kastking released the Kestrel BFS it was also advertised as having 8 kg of drag. I complained about that to them as it clearly showed a lack of understanding relating to UL fishing. You wouldn't need that much drag on a bass reel.

    • @ifishcatfish
      @ifishcatfish  5 місяців тому +1

      I don't know that particular reel, but the BFS spools are usually ridiculously thin, literally like paper thin, and i promise u if u put that much force on the line, it will deform your spool. Doesn't matter if the drag can hold it. Something else always breaks before that..

    I have the Psicifun CarbonX 500 and it looks and sounds very similar to the Kestrel. The reel weight is also similar. I love everything about it except the surging drag. I am going to try different size and type drag washers. Going to try some different greases also.
    I think the actual problem is the wishbone shaped drag clicker is too stiff. It does not give/flex easy enough for such a small reel. For now I took the drag clicker out completely. Now it is very smooth but have no sound feedback. And it is still a little too stiff even like that.
    Also, If you completely take the drag washer out you can feel the resistance of the clicker.

    • @ifishcatfish
      @ifishcatfish  5 місяців тому +1

      It is not the clicker. Watch my next video. I strongly recommend my antisurge grease if u live in USA. There is nothing like it on the market even in japan. But if u really want consistent, u gona have to replace the carbon with felt.

    • @jeanks2271
      @jeanks2271 5 місяців тому +1

      @@ifishcatfish I agree about the felt washer. Carbon is good when you want the drag above 5lbs. Felt always felt better for 2lb line on my other reels.The antisurge grease I am very interested in. I use high quality automotive silicone break grease commonly called syl-glyde which works pretty well.
      Also, when I took the drag washer out completely you can feel the resistance of just the clicker. It is greater than Shimano and Daiwa. But that is for my CarbonX, it may be built differently that the Kestral.

    I returned my Kestrel last year. I'm a novice so I don't know all the technicalities with why it happened but I started getting crazy knots after a few fishing trips and I never had that problem with my Shimano or Daiwa reels. Replaced it with a Vanford and it's been great ever since.

    • @ifishcatfish
      @ifishcatfish  5 місяців тому +3

      I hate to say that as it would appear very rude, but knots are 100% user error. Not 95% but 100%. You can say that in never happened with Daiwa but if you understand the physics you would know that the only possible way for a knot to appear, is for the user to create it. Kastking may have some shortcomings but this has nothing to do with the reel. If anything, Kastking has a high end line roller, but even if it had a bushing, that would not create a knot. You putting the line the wrong way, however, would create enormous amount of twist, that will IMMEDIATELY create knots. Or reeling while the drag is slipping. You created line twist somehow, and the line twist created the knots, but the reel cannot twist the line.

    • @parski
      @parski 5 місяців тому

      @@ifishcatfish Not sure why it happened. I always spool line using the 3-2-1 rule. I had line trouble in wind and with no wind, made no difference.

    • @ifishcatfish
      @ifishcatfish  5 місяців тому

      @@parski what about excessive reeling while drag is slipping? Twist was introduced somewhere. When the line goes through the line roller of a reel, the rotor BENDS the line but does NOT TWIST IT, if that makes sense. Knots happen from line twist. Maybe you cast some lure that spins in the air. Maybe you throw spinner baits that spin in the water. I promise you line twist was introduced somewhere, and the reel did not create it. It is worth thinking this through for 5 mins, not for kastking, but to save future trouble

    • @parski
      @parski 5 місяців тому

      @@ifishcatfish I'm not disagreeing with you. I fished it like I always do. I try not to reel when the drag is slipping but I know I do a little bit sometimes but not excessively. Usually the gear is pretty forgiving with a little slipping. The only difference was that every piece of gear was from AliExpress and cost a fraction of the JDM gear I usually buy. Maybe the line had excellent memory. It doesn't matter, I returned everything I could. If I'm gonna experiment again I'm only switching one part, not the whole kit.

    • @ifishcatfish
      @ifishcatfish  5 місяців тому +1

      @@parski i understand, and i repeat - forget about Kastking altogether! The twist is introduced when u spool the line, or when u reel while drag is slipping, or when u retrieve lures that spin in the water. It may help u figure something and avoid issues with your expensive tackle. Line twist is the reason i completely abandoned using spinner lures..
