The next two days of the trip were spent wandering slowly across New Brunswick and eventually back into Quebec. First though we had to cross the Confederation Bridge, a physical link from Prince Edward Island to the rest of Canada. Prior to its completion in May 1997 it was very difficult to cross the waters here in Winter when the seas here froze. At 8 miles (13km) long it is both Canada`s longest bridge and the World`s longest bridge over frozen water. We make an overnight stop in Fredericton the historic capital of the province. The city sited alongside the broad St John River is not only the political centre of New Brunswick but also its cultural and artistic focus. We explore some of its historic centre and take a walk on the old railway bridge over the river. Continuing northwards we stop to see the world`s longest covered bridge (1282 feet/391 metres) at Hartland and later the gorge at Grand Falls. Our last stop in New Brunswick was the Botanic Garden. Opened in 1993 the garden now boasts some 80,000 plants and also the largest Arboretum east of Montreal. Our day ended in Riviere du Loup ready to cross the mighty St Lawrence River by ferry the following morning.

Very nice tour of the area. Lots of fantastic sites visited. Love the architecture of the area and that cathedral is so beautiful. The covered bridge was the longest one I've ever seen. We would love to do them all again but sadly things do become more difficult as age catches up with us. Confédération bridge is impressive to see and to pass on , never took the time to look at it from the places you have been …very nice 🤩 nice to see Fredericton also , we have passed through before but didn’t stop …we were heading back home but we did stop and had a good look at the beautiful Hartland covered bridge. We also have stop in St-John to look at the reversible river …when the tide comes in to the river… it reverses the current of the river …quite special. Grand Falls another place that we passed so many times but never stopped 🥴 each time we were heading to my parents house in Ford Miles and were driving about 11 hours in a day to reach them so no time to visit no where . Same thing for the botanical garden in Edmondston …never stopped 🥴 we sure did miss many things . Thanks for showing us our country …Lol ! 🤪I still have my brother in Mundleville and some nephews in Moncton and also in Beersville that lives in New Brunswick, this summer when we went on our road trip up to Nova Scotia we stopped 2 days going and another 2 days coming back to visit them …it was nice seeing them.

Hi Serge. Ivor has been pretty ruthless with his editing as we did get to see quite a bit more than he might suggest. We did have a walk in St John ourselves but it was not a nice day at that point. We also stopped off at Hopewell Rocks and did stop overnight (on the outward journey) in Moncton. There is just so much that I tried to cram into our route as we only used to have two weeks at a time breaks from work. I did manage to clip a couple of days onto our holidays at the start and finish though so about 16/17 nights. The Botanic Garden is not the best we have visited but it is still worth a look when passing by. It is often the way that someone visiting an area will take the chance to visit as many attractions as possible that locals neglect. In Nottingham we had an attraction called the "Robin Hood Experience" So many people said how good it was and we said we would visit one day. It was right in the city centre so easily accessible. We left it too long. It went bankrupt and closed before we saw it! Thanks for your kind comments and as always it is great to hear of your take and experiences of these areas that we both travelled. What a great trip! 🌍 The Confederation Bridge is a true masterpiece of engineering and I can well imagine how impressive the view is from up there. Your impressions of Fredericton and the historical sites are simply great. The stop at the longest covered bridge in the world was certainly a highlight! I'm a little behind, I've been on the road for three weeks, but I'll make up for it. This area is so beautiful. You beautifully combined archive photos, they are a reflection of another time. The botanical garden is amazing, decorated with so much attention and imagination 👍❤️

Very impressive bridge! I haven't seen one of that length before! Perhaps the one between Copenhagen and Malmo and that's it! Beautiful are and loved the falls at the end. Nice peaceful viewing with my coffee this morning ☕️
It certainly is a long bridge and was really welcomed by the PEI residents. Crossing to the rest of Canada was really difficult when the sea here freezes over. Glad you were able to relax with your coffee!

Charming, historic, and peaceful! You know how much I love the architectures of the past, artistically intricate and meticulously complex. The botanical garden there is outstanding, I wish I could transport myself to New Brunswick. The whole 8:02 is a L35.

I do enjoy crossing over on the bridge as it sure is convenient and fast, but the ferry still holds a special place as that is all there was when a kid and heading over to camp at the National Park for a few summers in a row. Good to see you stopped at the park there at the base of the bridge as many don't or don't even know it is there. Offers such a great view! Got to all the nice stop in NB too...don't think I've ever seen so little water flowing over Grand Falls! These are the times that memories are made of! Awesome!!
We like the ferry rides when available. We much prefer crossing to France by ferry rather than the Tunnel. After the excitement of the first few times the Tunnel is a bit boring. We do try to find viewpoints for bridges as often they exist if you just take a minute to explore the maps. T be honest we did think that Grand Falls would have been a little grander but the gorge was still an interesting stop. Thanks for your always interesting comments.
