Potatoes! I love potatoes. I grew up in a large household. Mom, Dad, 3 boys and 7 girls. A whole lot of mouths to feed. Potatoes were a huge staple in our house, as well as rice. We grew our own potatoes, but storage was in the garage. The cellar/basement had a couple bedrooms, laundry and dry food, canned/preserved foods & boot/coat room, with and extra deep freezer and separate fridge. So the garage, which barely ever had the car in it, became the root veggie storage and dad’s workshop. The root vegetables were in wood crates filled with sand. The carrots, potatoes and beets had a crate or 2 each and they were buried in the sand. This kept them dry and regulated the temperature. Which is good for Winter in New England. We grew corn, beans, squashes, melons and so on. Then there was a separate salad garden in the side yard. I miss the farming life.
Love your work table which seems perfect for you.... also admire your love of tradition , family and respect for the land and all things. Since The Philippines also have Spanish/Portugese heritage, perhaps this is a homecoming for your wife also. Thank you for videos and restoration... so interesting.
What a beautiful setting. I just love rain and it was wonderful watching you work under your shelter with the rain coming down over that incredible valley. Obrigada!
Very enjoyable video. Your dinner looked amazing and the view from your table was beautiful. It is becoming a home again. It's exciting to see the root cellar getting stocked again after so many years, you must feel a bit of pride with that and also enjoying the fruit of your labour on your table. Your beautiful wife works very hard too, the garden is looking fantastic.
Adding that door, made on that bench, closing in your wine, truly brings home that you now have a working farm. A great achievement in such a short time, truly inspiring.👍❤️
Go ahead, life is just beginning!!Sou fã de Portugal, pois morei nessas terras por 4 anos. Cheguei a visitar a região do Minho. God bless youuuuu!!
Excellent work bench!!! Can you mention what fall crops you are planting this year? As mentioned, we are your neighbors sort of and would like to know what does well here planted in the fall. Onions Garlic Cabbage Potatoes? Thanks so much. Perhaps we will meet at the market one day. Also interested in when and how you are pruning your grape vines. Enjoy!
Beautiful views from the workshop! It appears that you and your wife are retired from working in Canada? Good work on the bench, shelf and the cellar door.
We were wondering how did you solve the problem of the electrical tools you brought from Canada , we enjoy watching you progress in your spectacular property best wishes from Montreal Canada
I was wondering if you could speak to the large tree branch/root that is embedded in your lean to workshop. Is that from a fallen tree? Is there a reason that you kept this in your workshop? Love all the work that you are putting into recreating your childhood home.
My friend in Seattle has what we call a Strawberry tree (Arbutus unedo), and has fruit this time of year, like yours does at 11:15. What will you do with the fruit, or what would you do if you had lots? My guess is alchohol, but there must be other ways of using the fruit? My chickens would gobble them down and ask for more.
Question: did you buy all your power/battery tools in Portugal or did you bring them from Canada and use a power pack/generator? Inquiring minds need to know 😊
I did bring them from Canada. The Polaris side by side is electric so I installed a split wave inverter on it that produces both 110v and 220v. This way I can use all my Canadian tools as well as any European tools or appliances that I may get from now on.
I ‘m enjoying your journey, however please wear eye protection while chiseling rock. Our eye sight is not replaceable if a rock were to hit you. Stay safe !
Congratulations, your Wife is fearless of working the land; you can grow almost anything.

The peace, beautiful countryside and watching you work methodically really is a tonic amid the chaos happening in the world !
Thankyou ❤
The view from that workbench is supreme! The stone walls are so beautifull. Lovely way to spend a Sunday watching this episode.

Truly a labour of love. Thankyou for sharing 😊
For me, the best part of your video was the end - I could almost smell and taste your almuerzo. Thank you!

Imagens magníficas, como sempre.

Arbutus = Medronho (Medronheiro)
Did you get your Tent up in the end ?? And if so do you now live in it ?? Garden looks great. Have a great week.
Good job on the door! Your wife must be shy on the camera? What's happening with the platform for your tent? Love the views! Well done
Vai ficar excelente você é muito criativo obrigado ❤
Hi guys, you can build an arbor & use the ladders on top to use as a support for a creeper/vine.
Thank you

At least it is not raining. 😂

You look like a British gentleman
❤❤❤
20:05 and just like that the wife disappeared 🤔😂
She’s safe now
Nice video, the silence, no hurry, i like that, one question; the Arbutes, where do you use it for ?
You need to put wheels on that bench that you built so you can move it around
The ground is way to uneven
Can u show us a overhead view of your property, please ?
If you store the potatoes at 4c they will keep for along time.
How is the tent coming? Have you moved into it yet?
I love the bench and door, but I find my self wondering how you are going to protect the wood?

@ smart idea!
Knew it your wife is filipina😊, even its only a glanced of your camera. .
👍
In another video you gathered pine cones and removed the nuts and roasted them. What type of pine treee are they?
Did you get an apartment? Where are you living since you haven’t shown us the tent?
What have you decided about the large tent? Are you using it?
Did you use any of your grapes to make your wine?
Not this time around
My Self Reliance português
Working on it, thanks
Do uninvited people every visit your property? You said something (now forgotten) that made me think perhaps theft is a potential issue.
Where do you live while renovating?
We are here
Hi Quim, does the wife speak Portuguese yet?
She’s working on it
I ‘m enjoying your journey, however please wear eye protection while chiseling rock. Our eye sight is not replaceable if a rock were to hit you. Stay safe !
Thank you, I’ll be mindful
Watching makes me happy.. so many achievements 😊😊
