    Did you know that Loch Ness (shown in green below) holds more water than all the lakes, rivers, canals and reservoirs in the whole of England and Wales combined!
    The deepest point in Loch Ness is 126 Fathoms which is twice the average depth of the North Sea! This is where you will find the Loch Ness Monster chilling on most days 😉 😎

    I know people moan about the TV licence but when you consider that it's cheaper than UA-cam's ad-free subscription, it seems like a huge bargain!

    Worth noting on the TV license the law also says you must have one to watch BBC iPlayer as well, so don't get caught out by that! You don't need one for on-demand services like Netflix or Amazon unless the programs are actually live.

    Let the letters keep coming, TV license "enforcement officers" are just door to door salesmen, you do not have to talk to them. Say no thanks and close your door.

    Peter. I live in Wales and we get no charge prescriptions. However, our water charges are separate from the Council Tax. One thing here in Wales, and probably Scotland, all official mail must be in English and, here in Welsh. Usually very long bills and loads of paper!

      @peterkonradort  Місяць тому

      I don't think it's quite the same here in Scotland. I don't think I've ever received a bill in Gaelic. Some of the ambulances I've seen have their text in both English and Gaelic though, which I think is pretty cool!

      @@peterkonradort The Welsh Nationalist party (Plaid Cymru) and off shoots waged a paper war against the UK government to insist that Welsh should be an official language. They eventually won so we have all bills in both Welsh & English, my old paper driving licence was huge, about 2 sheets of foolscap paper. Now we have S4C that's an extra channel in Welsh, our English Ch 4 is CH7 on our TV's. I don't speak much Welsh, but my Nepuew and his two children live in Bala, North Wales and they spoke Welsh before English.

    Although it is the law that kids have to be in full time education they can still be home educated, but our new government (from July 5th '24) may change this. For energy just choose Octopus. Signing a lease agreement commits you legally for at least 6 months. The UK licenses TVs. the US licenses guns. If you do not receive broadcast TV (even if over internet) you theoretically do not need a license. UK driving licenses are far superior to US licenses. Use the 12 month grace period fully go gain experience. Never insist on right of way in a car. Be courteous to other road users and DEFINITELY pedestrians.

    Hello Peter, what made you move to scotland ?
    TV license usually if you buy a TV they usually ask for an address which they pass onto the TV license dept . If you don't give an address, then you don't go into their black book . Hope that helps .

      I chose Ayrshire for one reason alone. This is where I found a house that was in my budget, fairly nice, and that would rent to me with my lack of UK rental history without making me pay 6 months rent upfront. That was literally the only reason I ended up here to begin with lol

      Unless they can convince a court to provide a warrant, in which case police or high court enforcement will attend as well. It's quite rare though and they have to have evidence to suggest that you're watching TV before the judge will grant a warrant.

    Of all the things that you mentioned the one that stands out is the TV Licence.
    I have visited an awful lot of the world, either for business or as a tourist. Without being a mega patriot I reckon that I can confidently say that here in the UK we have the best (or last bad! 😉) TV in the world. Why? Because the of the BBC which the Licence Fee (it is NOT a "tax") pays for. The standard of its output is very, very good and the best part is NO BL@@DY ADVERTS!!! None. Not a single one. Just great TV.
    The comment regarding the Driving Licence was interesting. My Niece worked in the USA a few years ago and took her test there. She then returned to the UK and took her test here. She told me that the ease of passing the US test was frightening and was probably the reason why there was such a poor standard of driving there and why there was such a high per capita rate of road deaths and injuries compared to the UK.

    • @peterkonradort
      @peterkonradort  Місяць тому +1

      I agree with you on both points! The US driving licence system is abysmal at best. While it is inconvenient to have to retest after driving for 15+ years, I completely understand why there’s no reciprocity lol
