I lived in New Orleans during hurricane Katrina. It really was horrible and the damage it caused, not only in six flags but in the whole New Orleans area, was tragic. I have memories of going to six flags before Katrina and it's crazy how much damage happened from before the hurricane to after. I know several people who lost parents or grandparents during the hurricane and lost their homes due to flood damage. My home flooded as well but it was able to be fixed which we are very grateful for

You know. I bet that a lot of people are watching this thinking it's really spooky and whatnot. But honestly, when I see this, for some reason it's just kind of beautiful to me. Areas abandoned, completely untouched or nearly untouched, the wildlife and plant life taking back over, becoming closer to how it used to be before we came along... Especially in this video with parts of the video like out at the lake or when you were by the highway. There in the early morning darkness with the partially city lit partially morning lit night sky, far off highway traffic with that light airy humming sound. It's just really beautiful and peaceful to me for some reason.... I can really see why you guys do this, I get it. It doesn't seem to be ALL about being "spooky" and "mysterious". There's quite a bit of beauty in some of these lost abandoned places. Like at the one mental hospital on that back porch that had the chain link fence closing it in. The way the bright green plant life overgrew right up to it. Almost like a mixture of entities, civilized and wild.

There used to be an older ACA p-50 down the road from my house that had a burnt up motor and sounded really creepy. That emergency alert would come on every time they would test the p-50 and it always scared the shit out of me. Sometimes it would turn on and off or only come on at half speed until it's breaker tripped. I think at one point they where running it and a phase dropped out and burned up the motor. They eventually took it down because it was so unreliable.
the beginning made me cry. i remember evacuating like it was yesterday. i remember being at six flags just months before the storm. we still haven’t fully recovered from katrina. it’s crazy what a story this park tells.
I was there 3 days ago in daytime and a security came screaming down to me and my friends saying “there’s enough shit going on here, stay away or I’ll call the cops” & it was the creepiest/realest warning
Six Flags was going to abandon this park regardless of whether the hurricane happened or not. The previous management that bought it had gotten fired and the new management didn't want it, it was on the same path as Six Flags Kentucky Kingdom.
Gosh, Kentucky Kingdom was a mess under Six Flags! I remember going once on a Friday the 13th and no less than three rides broke down. Our friends were stuck at the top of a coaster for an hour.
I'm not sure if you are gonna see my reply or not but a Kentucky native here and fucking Kentucky kingdom got shit handed to them when the woman lost her leg on one of the rides and other reasons caused the park to shut down for nearly 10 years before being able to reopen with enough money to keep it running.
@@whyme3772 What I meant was Six Flags was going to close it anyway like they did with Kentucky Kingdom. New Orleans doesn't have the benefit of having a guy who had a history with the park and saw its potential like KK does.
I remember a few months before Katrina, going to that park. It gives you a little weird feeling seeing this video at what it looks like now. A bit of a spooky feeling.
It seems like politics is the main thing holding up rescuing the park. Typical of New Orleans. www.nola.com/business/index.ssf/2016/03/six_flags_new_orleans_east.html
In just ten years of no upkeep the place is overgrown with trees and grass. This shows you how much time and effort goes into keeping these places up and running.
I just found your channel and I have to say bravo. The amount of effort put into all of your videos amazes me. It feels like I am watching a high budget TV show.
Back in the early 90's in school in my history book it mentioned about if a hurricane stronger than a Cat 3 goes thru New Orleans that the levees would fail.
This amusement park is my childhood. My father took me and my brother here when I was but child. My father passed away this past may 21st. I am happy to see someone bring these ashes to light.
This is one of my all time favorite videos. No matter how many times I watch, I get chills and feel like I'm back in 2005 all over again. Spectacular editing!
Really, you guys should make an infrared camera for these situations, you can use infrared light so you don't get seen from the highway and still film all of the park if our light is strong enough. This doesn't have to be expensive if you know your way around a screwdriver.
+Sidney Verheggen Most of the first half of this video is in infrared, all the black and white shots. The infrared light we had was pretty terrible though and didn't project onto anything more than a couple of feet away.
At 11:40, you can see that the coaster was operated by an automation control panel. I build and wire those same panels for a living. Even though almost every industry uses automation now. Its crazy to see that they had those back in 2005 and were using them on coasters. Ive been building these for years and this panel looks just like the panels built today in 2019. Just goes to show how ahead of its time that coaster really was.
I'm really glad that y'all took the time to film this theme park. I appreciate the time and effort you put in to research the park's history and share it with your aidience. I loved this park as a kid and would often go with my friends from school. October was the best time to go because the whole park was decked out for Halloween!
I moonlight as a security guard for extra income. I don’t think there is enough money you could pay me to patrol that site day or not. I wouldn’t be afraid of sketchy people, but more so of the wild life.
i live 2 hours away from the park. the storm was truly devastating... lots of lives lost, but luckily i was able to find shelter. still praying for the families❤️
Hearing the Katrina announcements gave me chills... the eye went right over my home in Bogalusa . We had 8 pine trees go through my home. Water came up from the floor. And we had over 100 trees fell in our yard. We couldn't get out for weeks. We had to stay behind because most of my neighbors at the time were elderly and had no family.. we lost so much. Going to New Orleans, you can still see the scars from the high water and old roads.
It's amazing the process is for nature to reclaim an area/building once man abandons that spot. Depends where that area is, but it's humbling how quickly nature "heals" once man just leaves an area alone!
A beautiful presentation of the theme park from the advertisement to the aftermath it went through. It is a beautiful theme park and it can be rehabilitated and preserved
Interesting trek through what was once a thriving amusement park, yet sad to imagine what everyone that lived in that area went through during and after the devastating storm.
that storm was devastating. I remember it like it was yesterday. I was driving a boat down Canal Street like it was actually a canal. I rescued quite a few people. Driving onto the roofs of houses and cutting holes in them with chainsaws to check for survivors. There was even a shark circling the landmark hotel. Bodies piled up of dead people who drowned at the 17th street canal pump. The things I had seen would make most people cringe. Learning to pick up a drowned person who had been in the water for a couple of days, how you don't grip them with your hands because their skin sticks to your fingers and peels off of them. Trust it was no laughing matter even at the irony of the sign. Many people are still listed as missing because their bodies have never been found because they floated out to the river or Lake Ponchartrain. I could never bring myself to laugh at what happened there on any occasion.
This is so horrible to the human brain and eye to see how this park just has been destroyed like this :( so sad to see how many great people had amazing memory's
I used to live in New Orleans and heard all kind of fun stories about Six Flags in New Orleans! I was in New Orleans before Katrina and never knew it was there! The Six Flags theme Park is still there abandoned in the New Orleans East area surrounded by swamps, trees, and alligators 🐊! You guys are brave going there at night!
I am with the Dutch navy and went in 2005 to Biloxi MS near New Orleans for disaster relief. It was so deeply impressing seeing all the devestation and people in shock. I am glad I could help get normal life back a little bit. Still have a lot of memories of that week there...
this is very well done. Always wanted to go here. the presentation in the beginning is perfect to show why the park is vacant. Editing is superb too. looking forward to part 2
I love your guy’s abandoned videos because they’re so calm you can tell they’re real. A lot of abandoned places videos on youtube are full of ghost or security drama and you guys handle it really realistically! Love your content.
Wonderful work with your editing! The music really makes me feel the devastation and horror. I can't imagine what would happen if something like that happened to my home. We're so, so lucky to have survived Irma last year. I can only imagine how much more damage there would have been if it were a CAT 5. What an amazing video!

Time stamped 14:34 where the second verse was recorded and is also seen in this video
looked a lot nicer in the video lol
love the editing! im ready for part 2
+Exploring With Josh 2 days ago?
+Shaniqua Leshawna Jackson yeah wtf!?
+Exploring With Josh They must have granted him access to an unlisted version. He is their friend.
Keep up your videos as well 👍
hacks !!!
i do have to say, that intro was impeccable.
Why am I here 4 years later in 2020
So am I lol
Because you can
Me too
I’m five years now.
I don’t know, why are you here?
it’s crazy how they just left it there. i passed it yesterday on the way home..
camryn cost more to demolish than its worth
@@kelseychumney it's cost 1.3 million to do it.
People: *Goes into the park*
Alligators: Wait that's illegal
the beginning made me cry. i remember evacuating like it was yesterday. i remember being at six flags just months before the storm. we still haven’t fully recovered from katrina. it’s crazy what a story this park tells.
The opening cinematics gave me chills! So good!
lol the narration at the end makes me want part 2 NOW
YES
+William Hyde they made one lol
Same😹
Parvinder Sahota i know
I was there 3 days ago in daytime and a security came screaming down to me and my friends saying “there’s enough shit going on here, stay away or I’ll call the cops” & it was the creepiest/realest warning
right🤔🤔🤔
@Bella vlogs I'm assuming probably vandals and explorers
Lenny Summers yeah cause explorers are so fucking violating to have around there not doing any harm at least these ones
Aw that's lame I'm sorry bud
Other videos, a security guard said a lot of people get hurt in the park
Thank you for being respectful and bringing back memories of a place I used to love to go.
Management were planning on building a water park which would have been popular with the hot weather
Kentucky Kingdom is making a comeback though.
@@whyme3772 What I meant was Six Flags was going to close it anyway like they did with Kentucky Kingdom. New Orleans doesn't have the benefit of having a guy who had a history with the park and saw its potential like KK does.
7 years ago when this video was uploaded. Still my favorite.
What are you doing in my swamp?!?!
Sharkbait Whohaha ha totally read that in shreks voice - then I read your name in the fish's voice 🤣
@@tarryn5336 lol same
Comments you can hear.
I remember a few months before Katrina, going to that park. It gives you a little weird feeling seeing this video at what it looks like now. A bit of a spooky feeling.
This is still to this day one of the coolest openings to a UA-cam video ever
"Security might still be doing rounds at night" *uses bright ass flashlight* Seems legit.
Every time
Love the history behind this exploration! It's so fascinating to see what it looks like now :)
Yea it's just so sad to see it go and how many people had so many great memory's just go to waste
+Welsby 716 it's coming back
+J Flores as jazz land again
It seems like politics is the main thing holding up rescuing the park. Typical of New Orleans. www.nola.com/business/index.ssf/2016/03/six_flags_new_orleans_east.html
+Evil Assassin 30 million $ of damage.... its sad to see a booming amusment park, (like Valleyfair) went to millions a year, to none.
I Can’t stop watching these videos . I’m very interactive and want to explore just as well !!! This is awesome and amazing !!!
The intro gives me chills every time!
This amusement park is my childhood. My father took me and my brother here when I was but child. My father passed away this past may 21st. I am happy to see someone bring these ashes to light.
“Sorry temporarily out of service “
“I’d Say” 😆😆😆
Man I remember how it felt rolling up to this place at 10 am on the weekend. Most excited I ever got as a kid
That Emergency Alert System Sound at 0:27 scared the hell out of me! I didn't know that was coming
me too!
It's still so surreal to see the silhouettes of the rides when you drive by at night.
This would make a wicked Left 4 Dead map. :D
There is already one like this on Left 4 dead 2 though. Dark Carnival.
+AWhoreForSmoresxD i mean with both the swamp, the surge flood and abandoned nature of it. Imagine having to go through here to get to The Parish
+MistarZtv oh yeah, that would be really cool.
Ya
omg you are so write :D
I went to that place ONCE before it flooded. Now there's no theme parks near New Orleans
It's so boring down here
Well there blue bayou but that's in BR
+iGotBuscuits well yeah, but that's pretty far and I'm pretty sure it's only open for the summer
+Dylan McMullen blue bayou is open during summer but the part that's called Dixie Landin is always open. It has roller coasters and stuff
Dylan McMullen unless u take a stroll thru baton rouge
This is one of my all time favorite videos. No matter how many times I watch, I get chills and feel like I'm back in 2005 all over again. Spectacular editing!
Really, you guys should make an infrared camera for these situations, you can use infrared light so you don't get seen from the highway and still film all of the park if our light is strong enough.
This doesn't have to be expensive if you know your way around a screwdriver.
+Sidney Verheggen Most of the first half of this video is in infrared, all the black and white shots. The infrared light we had was pretty terrible though and didn't project onto anything more than a couple of feet away.
+The Proper People what kind of camera d oyou guys use?
infaed cost alot of money dude. just cuz its great doesn't mean its cheap or for free
*infared
a drone would be a good idea too.
That intro made me sad. :'(
this reminds of Detroit become Human when your walking and trying to find shelter and its an abandoned theme park
Dark_Raiden definitely if it was snowing and pirate themed
At 11:40, you can see that the coaster was operated by an automation control panel. I build and wire those same panels for a living. Even though almost every industry uses automation now. Its crazy to see that they had those back in 2005 and were using them on coasters. Ive been building these for years and this panel looks just like the panels built today in 2019. Just goes to show how ahead of its time that coaster really was.
i love how he adds the hurracie noises and emergany message it gives a good back story
actually got chills with the opening transition into the emergency broadcast alert
I'm really glad that y'all took the time to film this theme park. I appreciate the time and effort you put in to research the park's history and share it with your aidience. I loved this park as a kid and would often go with my friends from school. October was the best time to go because the whole park was decked out for Halloween!
If they decide to reopen it, they should relocate it away from New Orleans East, still lot of good land by City Park.
I moonlight as a security guard for extra income. I don’t think there is enough money you could pay me to patrol that site day or not. I wouldn’t be afraid of sketchy people, but more so of the wild life.
Those ceiling fans look like something from a Seuss book haha. Great production on this video, thanks for sharing!
+EL BENNO Lol i instantly thought those claw cranes at arcades. Spooky and surreal.
+TheMostEmo or it looks like they melted
+Polaris 175. im melting IM MELTING
LMAO...I thought the very same thing!!!!
i live 2 hours away from the park. the storm was truly devastating... lots of lives lost, but luckily i was able to find shelter. still praying for the families❤️
This is just wow. As someone who went here as a kid it’s mind blowing to see it now
I remember Jazzland when it was open and how devastating Katrina was 16 years ago, today. Prayers for everyone being affected from Ida today.
What if when he started clicking the buttons on the ride they thought was a pirate ship, the ride turned on? 😂
Lol
What happened if you pushed a cart to the top and pushed it down. XD
This would be a great Left 4 Dead map
Jose Gonzales dark carnival 2 🎡
Gumbo Wumbo electric boogaloo (thunder crashes)
Dark carnival exists
That intro was the peak of show not tell, great work at setting the atmosphere!
It's amazing the process is for nature to reclaim an area/building once man abandons that spot.
Depends where that area is, but it's humbling how quickly nature "heals" once man just leaves an area alone!
The intro teaching us about the park was pretty amazing. I like that.
Don't know why but I laughed really hard at the "humanity street" sign being under water...
Douchebag I bet you wouldn't be laughing if it was your city flooded
+Brandon Tom that's true. I was just laughing at the irony in it though. Not the fact that somebody's house and things were destroyed
that storm was devastating.
Elijah Eismann same
Elijah Eismann the matrix has its own sense of irony n humor
The proper people did the best tour of this place.
The guy talking for the Six Flags commercial didnt seem so pumped up 😂😂
My thoughts exactly 🤣
This is so horrible to the human brain and eye to see how this park just has been destroyed like this :( so sad to see how many great people had amazing memory's
I used to live in New Orleans and heard all kind of fun stories about Six Flags in New Orleans! I was in New Orleans before Katrina and never knew it was there! The Six Flags theme Park is still there abandoned in the New Orleans East area surrounded by swamps, trees, and alligators 🐊! You guys are brave going there at night!
That beginning was extremely well edited.
I really appreciate how you guys put information about the sights you are exploring 😄👍🏼
I am with the Dutch navy and went in 2005 to Biloxi MS near New Orleans for disaster relief. It was so deeply impressing seeing all the devestation and people in shock. I am glad I could help get normal life back a little bit. Still have a lot of memories of that week there...
Although I was really young when Katrina hit I remember seeing stuff on the news about the devastation and it was crazy
My name is karina
I feel you bc I live in Houston and we were affected but not until Ike came
Karina XOXO It’s not Karina it’s *Katrina*
this is very well done.
Love your content.
oml when the Emergency Message appeared on screen I got nervous thinking it was true ;-;
SAME
OMG ME TO
I hate the * ERR * ERRR * ERRR * I can't go to sleep if I hear it before bed o_o
Lol same
Lol same!! 😂
Wonderful work with your editing! The music really makes me feel the devastation and horror. I can't imagine what would happen if something like that happened to my home. We're so, so lucky to have survived Irma last year. I can only imagine how much more damage there would have been if it were a CAT 5. What an amazing video!
