Another tip to add to the “do & dont” list is: if you are sleepy, fatigued or just not in mood to sew then don’t force yourself to sew because you will make mistakes and get frustrated.

Good Morning Maureen! Thank you! Thank you! I have sent my info to you for the Worlds Greatest Scrap Quilt💕
As always, this episode is a “Keeper” for my instruction list of better methods to achieve quilting success!
The Christmas bundle will be a beautiful addition for Christmas gift giving!
One recommendation, since you asked, is a demo on squaring up yardage when getting ready to cut proper pieces. I have found, even in high quality brand fabrics, they are wonky off the bolt! How to press and establish the yardage is on-grain would be extremely helpful right out the gate💕🧵

I always remember Deb Tucker's video on having a string of blocks with bias on the outside sewn together. That row stretched like taffy. As always, you offer straightforward and practical tips. Some shortcuts will lead you down an alley where you will encounter lurking dangers!

Christmas Bundle. I would love to win your Christmas fabric. A mouse problem last year ruined my whole box of holiday fabric and I don't have any at all. LOL - I have definitely learned that your suggestion on making a practice block is "necessary" first step for me. I always learn something that helps me work better. I even have a shoebox of "ugly" and cheap fabric that I save just for making practice pieces.

All great tips! They should be called The Quilter's Code! Practice blocks are essential, especially if it's a block or technique new to me. I have a couple of yards of fabric that I bought a few years ago and that I use exclusively for practice blocks. It's fabric that I absolutely hate - I have no idea what I was thinking when I bought it. I'll never use it in a quilt, but it serves its purpose for test blocks and dog bed stuffing.

Video Idea: Mixing pre-washed and dried cottons along with new cottons into the same quilt. How does that turn out upon a first wash? Do things go wonky, stretch, or pull? We need a scientific laundry experiment, lol. Thanks for your videos. I always learn a good new tip.

your tips are always so good. I appreciate you didn’t name the UA-cam company that constantly advises people to cut and sew half square triangles with a bias on the outside. It irritates me too because I feel she setting up new Quilter’s for failure. I would love your Christmas bundle. Please comment on UA-cam tutorials that teach people to cut without pressing, and tear without pressing. There is a young woman I think, is energetic and friendly, and has good ideas, but it’s setting new quilters up for problems.😊

Christmas bundle! :-) This would be so fun to play with! A topic suggestion--how best to put rows together, once all blocks are made. I seem to be able to hold precision when doing individual blocks, but tend to get sloppy when putting the blocks together.

I'm working on a World's Greatest Scrap Quilt and I'm so glad I took your advice about choosing scraps intentionally. This one is all lighter fabrics instead of the brights I usually do and it's looking great. Great advice! Because I had to teach myself how to quilt back in the ‘80’s, it took me many years to understand the importance of grainlines. I could never figure out why my blocks turned out so badly. Also I didn’t know about starching back then which would have been a big help.

I hand sew only. Large custom made quilts. When I prick myself for the second time, and I’m not talking little pricks. I’m talking stabs that draw blood, then I know I’m tired or my focus is shifting. Whether I’ve been busy for a couple of hours or 4 hours, I stop and walk away and come back another day.

Patterns I avoid due to a technique I hate (because I can’t seem to get them right w/o using Terrial to make my fabric like paper & that’s just too expensive) is ‘snow balling’ the corners.
