Good point on "every car has their own set of problems" , prejudice, gearbox what not etc... If it bothers you, don't get it. simple. But IF it's something that makes you happy and it's something you like and you're able to enjoy day to day (not just as a rocco enthusiast) you'll get it no matter what flaws it has. You still win. Heck, same applies life.
and about the stereotype.. people just plain salty nowadays.

Pistons 1.3k (without labour)
Engine Overhaul 6k
Mechatronic replacement 5k
Rims if any 1.5-3k
Gearbox overhaul 1k
Blow off valve 300-400(without labour)
Above easily 19k without labour. Maybe you should learn your stuff first

I own a 2012 6sp manual 2.ltr Scirocco which has only recently been upgraded to stage 2. I wouldn't touch a Scirocco or Golf with a DSG auto gearbox, even if you paid me to. Very unreliable. Kept the car body in its original state, don't want to attract 'Fast and Furious fanboi' attention. Good sleeper.
In short, don't touch DSG auto, even though it may be faster in gear change. Scirocco has better handling overall.
