The beauty and the brilliance of the Beatles harmonies is that they are deceptively simple. The melodies and the lyrics go by so easily that the complexity of the songwriting and the arranging just kind of gets missed. Which, in and of itself, isn't always bad. The 'hum-a-long" nature of the tune and simple hooks made the songs stick in your mind - even if you didn't know all the words.

I think that's spot on, but I don't think you meant to imply the Beatles guitar sound came from hearing the Beach Boys sound, right? Similar, but developed in parallel from some of the same source material...Chuck Berry, etc. Plus, the Beatles developed their core band sound long before they knew who the Beach Boys were. Same for the Beach Boys getting their early sound established prior to the Beatles breaking in America.

I believe this is one of their best efforts and not given the credit. Everyone loves it, me included. John does the low end of the harmony and Paul does the high part. What I love about it is it start with John solo then they do harmony. I love the way that it's harmony and then John and Paul sing together, no harmony. So, it's no harmony then harmony the same then harmony and back and forth. When people sing along, they seem to always sing Paul's high part. It isn't that easy to sing John's part. I finally was able to zero in on John's voice and now when I hear it, I sing John's part. I agree with you 100% on your comment of the song being 'ear candy. That's exactly what I think to. When The Beatles were first starting out (after their big splash on The Ed Sullivan Show), they were writing 3 songs a day. At one point, in the beginning, they had 5 songs in the top 10 at once. I believe when the did the Ed Sullivan Show they had something like 72 million people watching. Not all that much by today's standards with so many channels with cable. At that time there were only 3 stations to watch. ABC-TV, CBS-TV and NBC-TV. So numbers like they drew were unheard-of. These guys were bigger than big and their music is still loved today by all ages.
Great reaction my friend. I'll be watching you again. Stay safe.

John Lennon was the dominating force behind the bands 3rd Long Playing record - 'A Hard Days Night'. John' was the key writer of 10 (of the 13) album compositions. Including, I'm Happy Just To Dance With You This was given to. George Harrison to sing. . Even the melody Paul sings hear is actually Johns original melody. John can be heard singing Paul's melody on the home demos John was making at the time. If I fell is pretty, Hari, Indeed it is. Ciao, RNB

Paul does play a passing F note during the verses D** E**(m) F#***(m)F* E****(m )A****(7). But the guitar's don't follow him on the F note. That's all I got. I've always regarded this is a John Song but, in fact, it's one of those bed-sitting songs where John may have delivered tune and lyrics, but Paul's harmony is so integral that, sitting together, facing each other, it is a true Lennon-McCartney work. George's contribution was the beginning of having that High Harmony become his lifelong signature 'donation' to the Beatles as well as every other artist he worked with (I'm thinking of Wilbury's, Clapton tours, etc. In my mind, this song is followed by YES IT IS, which is a 9-part harmony recording.
This is one of the songs that, in his later years when John was dismissive (even pissing on) 'his earlier work', I winced. "No no no-!!"
