    God shouted from heaven, "Someone give me a tragedy that will make me feel!"
    Sophocles quietly spoke out of ancient history, "God, I give you Oedipus Rex".
    From another corner of history, Shakespeare murmured, "Try Romeo and Juliet".
    On earth a few years ago, Ren chuckled and began to strum his guitar.

      I LOVE Shakespeare for the turn of the words; the multiple usage of meaning. It is intellectually tasty. Ren's got it. He has the talent. The wordsmithing to the highest order. I was not what you'd call a rap fan. I enjoy medieval; opera, classical, folk, rock....and he has OBVIOUSLY studied and learned. This is a tapestry. Magnificent.

    Ren seen an article in the paper about a 15 year old boy who had stabbed a prostitute and killed her.....which is what made him make Jenny's Tale....in the article the headline was "its such a shame" which he uses that line in the first two tales. I believe sometime (a year or two) later he made Screech's Tale to tie in with Jenny's. Then again a year or two later he had come up with the finale of Violets tale.

    • @reactivereplays5666
      @reactivereplays5666 Рік тому +17

      I like many things here in this song obviously. One thing no one mentions I think is cool. Ren starts Screech's tale with "A story it starts at the end". He then as he so often does, brings it full circle. At the end of the song he says, "a story it ends at the start".

    • @davidlowe272

      Since you appreciate that I'll give ya my full breakdown of this song ;).
      I could write a book on just about ever Ren song... These are a few things I like to mention sometimes.
      Jenny's Tale you have to ask yourself what was a 14 year old girl wearing heels and "rosy cheeks" doing at night on a road "she walked a 1000 times before".

      At the start of Screech's Tale 7:25 Ren starts the song by saying, "A story it starts at the end". 8:00 Patrick was "missing" and Screech's GF was "Busy" because they were together. Then at the end as Ren does so often he brings it full circle and says, "A story it ends at the start" 10:28.
      Violate Tale - I LOVE the guitar rifts throughout the ENTIRE song. 14:11 As Ren so often does, he plays the part of Violate here...
      (Violate waking up looking around confused as to how she got here and where is here?) With haunting/eerie hymns he sets the stage.
      Many catch the rewind 15:00. MANY more miss the speeding back up to real time when Ren/Violate wakes up on the table 18:18.
      Lastly,
      Violet moved out at 16 into a flat paid by a "welfare scheme". It is logical to think that violet was already pregnant by this time. A teenage runaway might have a chance at being a beneficiary of this but a pregnant teenage runaway certainly has the qualifications to be granted this benefit. This was before he met Stevie who most would assume was the father of Jenny and Screech. If what was speculated was true, Stevie did some maths and figured that the numbers didn't add up, the baby wasn't his. He beats up Violet and calls her a "slut" which was quite specific when compared to usual cuss words like "bitch" or "cunt". This would also answer as to why Stevie asked "Why're you lying to me, violet?" And would make the slightly off phrase "Do you think I wanna do this, Violet" fit more consistently into the story@@davidlowe272

    • @mistyramsey1840
      @mistyramsey1840 Рік тому +10

      @reactivereplays5666 You're the first person Ive seen question whether or not Violet was pregnant when she ran away, I've always wondered myself. However, Stevie calling her "slut" isn't really the tell tale sign you may think as calling a female "slut" is just a very very common go to for abusive men. It helps them see the female as a bad person, alleviating their guilt for treating that women like she's garbage. Even on dating sites I've come across WAY too many men that send flattering messages and if I ignore them or even politely decline their advance, they lash out and call me a slut, which is actually the very opposite of rejecting the advance. It's a dude thing. It's also terrifying when you realize that the guy who has the nice profile talking about just wanting to find a nice women can go from sweet and polite to outraged and cruel in the blink of an eye because if a women accepts their initial advance, she won't find out until it's likely too late that the guy is psychotic. I saw something that someone said that has always stuck with me and haunts me
      "You always hear men joking about their crazy ex but you don't hear that many women joke about it. I always wondered why until I realized it's because most women don't make it out of the relationship alive to talk about it."

    Thanks for reacting to this. For me, the reason this story is important is that it shows Ren's empathy to the human condition which he has developed from his hardship. It shows Ren's genius as a story teller and shows his compassion (he composed a musical tragic story to honor the memory of people whose lives are tragically ended). I believe he points out in his "Eden" video how our current system is lacking and that mankind should exercise their gift of Free Will and turn this hell on earth into a better place.

      Paddington is sexworker central. And shes "walked these streets a thousand times before". So she's a sex worker. Ren wrote it after reading about the death of a 14 yr old prostitute.

    • @ItsMeBliz
      @ItsMeBliz 9 місяців тому

      It's because she was a prostitute. Hence why she was wearing "rosy on her cheeks" and high heeled shoes, walking down a street she had walked a 1000 times before (street walker). It's also why she was trying to escape (her life). The story was inspired from a murder in London involving a 14 year old boy that stabbed a prostitute.

A lot of great earlier stuff too. What Went Wrong is another great storytelling piece ... parts 1 & 2. Blind Eyed both the MC Session I think its called as well as the angry car park guy are great, the second showcasing him and Sam's ability to still be brilliant despite unexpected interruptions. Uninvited and Loco off of the new album are great lighter tracks with some clever humor and great beats. Crutch and Pocket Full of Pain from the Freckled Angels album are great as well. Just too many to mention all of them lol.

    Meet 'Ren Night Shyamalan'.... 😎✌🎶 edit : Jenny and Screech would have grown up in the child welfare system, probably separated and having never known each other at all. Their mother was deceased, their father would have went to jail for ending her, and yet... they played out the exact same roles of generational violence. When Jenny was attacked on the street she stayed silent, frozen like a statue. Screech had all the murderous rage that their father had. History repeats itself if you can't break that cycle.

I would love to see him do something with a blues or jazz feel twist with his guitar and piano skills.

    Ren's goal here IMO, is actually not to point out a 'terrible ending', but an ongoing cycle of violence. Jenny and James (Screech) obviously grew up in 'the system' since their mother died and their father killed her. Other clues to look for on repeated listens: two zero zero five (2005) is the year of their birth and the songs full version came out around 2019, making them 14 years old. Screech had already entered a life of crime, but what was a 14 year old girl doing walking the same street she had 'walked a thousand times before' at night in high heels? I appreciate that Ren uses a bit of poetic license to make the ending very clear. If he had said a girl named Jenny and a boy named James, too many people would not have immediately gotten it. So he had to say it the way he did because he told the whole story backwards, even though the boy wasn't actually named Screech at birth, he just came to be called that later. There's a reason Ren named his style of storytelling Bardcore! What a masterpiece.

    Have just watched through your Ren reaction journey and can see that with each new reaction. you are getting much more appreciation for what he brings to the table. With many of his story telling "darker" songs, you see he will never shy away from a difficult subject and provoke conversation and discussion about real life issues.
    If I was to advise you on the next step, I think you need to check his collaborations with Chinchilla - Chalk Outlines (live version) and How To Be Me which will give you a look into his vocal range and singing.
    There is a really fun side to Ren too - try something like "Losing It" and "Power". He has also been in a band called The Big Push and all of their stuff is fire and entertaining and lastly, he has done several collaborations with an artist called Sam Tompkins (who is phenomenal in his own right).

    One of the most underrated things I find about ren, is he seems to know exactly when to shift his songs. Like a perfect example is his timing in that first Jenny portion. Screech is harsh and you can feel yourself uncomfortable a bit by the language. But he clicks over to the super poetic Jenny description and relieves all of that and then back and forth the same way throughout.

      Great inference to that part of the lyrics. Tbh, I hadn't thought of that and have been slightly confused by those lines since I first heard "The Tales" at the beginning of the year. Now I can sleep peacefully knowing what that part means. Thank you my friend.👍👍👍👍

    Ren has an uncanny ability to put you in his characters shoes. We all shivered with Jenny. We felt Screech's pain, confusion an anger. We felt Richards hopeless frustration. We died with Violet.
    Stevie is only one who's story we don't know yet and I'm sure that's a sad story too.

This would also answer as to why Stevie asked "Why're you lying to me, violet?" And would make the slightly off phrase "Do you think I wanna do this, Violet" fit more consistently into the story

    There is a term people apparently use... Bardcore. It makes sense though, him using an acoustic guitar makes it so you can easily picture this story being performed in the kings court , changing a couple details, 500 years ago. Ot a bard in Shakespeare's time.

    I don't know if you picked up on this. How the acoustics change in Violets tale. He gets up from the hospital bed, walks into the narrow corridor which deadens the sound, then walks into the stairwell which gives a beautiful echo. All of that he's obviously played to fit the song as he's walking, playing guitar and singing, whilst telling a story 😮.
    Thank you for the reaction guys. I ❤ it.

    Today I listened to an interview by The Charismatic Voice and Ren. He talked a little about this video. The visuals were shot on an iPhone. The 'hospital' was the bicycle store room in the building were a friend of his had a flat, they adapted it (without asking permission) and Ren bought a hospital type bed from Argos (a UK chain) however, when it arrived it was a child size bed so they had to kind of hope no one noticed!
    Oh, and for Violets Tale they did 24 takes but actually used take no 2.
    The interview is a good watch but be warned it lasts nearly two and a half hours!

    Not many people mention that Jenny was 14 too walking the streets late at night in high heels, the streets she'd walked 'a thousand times before' which describes just one thing and another layer to the sadness of the tale.

    Most miss the foreshadowing. Jenny's rosie cheeks/Screetch's blue face (police lights). Violets children's colours become her name.
    Also, saw a different reaction that mentioned the beginning of Screetch's tale as he walks down the steps, as the decention of Screetch. He saw that where no one else did. Thought that was pretty cool.
