    Please also note, I was facing my house while making this video, so at 4:13 when I draw the bow, I do so without an arrow nocked for safety reasons (so that it could not possibly be accidentally fired into my house). Please also note that my finger was BEHIND the release trigger while doing this and adding forward pressure against the trigger so that it could not possibly disengage, which is how I draw my bow every single time. Normally, you do not want to draw a bow without an arrow nocked on the string (and pointed at a target) to avoid the possibility of dry firing the bow. Dry firing can cause injury and damage to the bow.

    I know I've commented on your newer videos. But I finally got my first compound bow. Bought used and older to see how I enjoy the sport. Replaced string, cable, and tuned it all with your videos. It shoots NICE!! Peep is on it's way and I'll have to learn to install that.
    I appreciate all the info you've provided over the years. I have a lot to watch still.

    Best video I have seen by far so far. I went right out side and was able to start hitting the target and started getting some nice groupings. The two arrow tip is great. I just spent almost 2 hours out and made so much progress in my shots. Thanks a lot for the video :)

    Best shooting tip video on UA-cam. Thanks so much Sean. Watched it last night and used the info this am and my shooting has improved dramatically already. Seems to have cured my case of target panic. The advice to take one piece at a time and practice it I.E. holding the bow works wonders. Keep them coming and God Bless!

    This is probably the best, most practical, "how to" take it to the next level video I've seen. It takes a shooter beyond the basics, and suggests subtle hints often overlooked. This video takes us beyond basic mechanics of avoiding bow torque, controlling breathing, relaxing grip, and aligning peep. Sean suggests a focus on muscle relaxation of the grip hand, forward shoulder, back muscles, neck and face. Also poignant are his comments about the pressure of the release hand to anchor point.

    After not shooting for quite a few years, I purchased a new compound bow and have been shooting for the last two months. Although I've finally accomplished a bullseye grouping at 20 yards, I just don't feel comfortable and struggle with it each session. Can't wait to try a few of your tips tomorrow. Seriously! Especially relaxing the muscles in my neck and shoulder. Looking forward it. And thanks for the video ....spent about an hour looking for one good one and you're it.

    I agree on everything especially the poundage. I haven't shot over 60# for years. I can shoot all day without tiring. A game changer for me was the Garmin Xero sight. I've always been terrible about judging distance when shooting at large game. I hated having to use the range finder. With the Garmin I'm on every time and no extra movement.
    Great video as always.

    Good tips Sean....The one on the two arrows only is a big one! I see time and time again on the sportsmen channel, so many guys pulling to much weight. I shoot 64 pounds and that's enough for me. My bow Shoots tight out to 80 yards for fun, and hunting to 50. My tents have been out for weeks and in 12 days its opener...... I hope to just relax, and enjoy all the things the deer woods has to offer me......

    Mate those tips were so handy. Im back into Bow-hunting/ABA targets again with my Bear Legion after 20yrs and have been shooting to the right at distances from 28-40 metres away. Now I can focus on my anchor point and the grip, and shall now watch part 2. Gosh the equipment's changed in that time, peep sights pins I gotta get out more :) Many thanks again Larry from Downunder

    All of the tips here are great except for the last one. I've been in fitness for a long time and I know that "time under tension" is actually the best thing for muscles to increase in strength and endurance. I recommend making a change to the way you train your students. If dropping the poundage a little helps them to be able to shoot 10 arrows in a row, then those muscles will adapt to the adversity and they will be able to incrementally increase their poundage and have much steadier form when the shot counts. I learned from an Olympic archer and was taught by physical therapists and fitness trainers, regarding muscle adaptation. It is much better to train those muscles aggressively with time under tension. Shooting 200 arrows a day would be a feasible goal for any beginner.

    • @seansoutdoors
      @seansoutdoors  3 роки тому

      I disagree with you. When people are not able to hold steady because their muscles are too strained, they begin to develop bad habits trying to compensate in an effort to shoot better. What you are talking about should be done in the weight room when trying to work out and strengthen muscle, not while trying to advance in the fine art of archery while the bow is in your hand. In essence, you are suggesting using a hammer on a painting that actually needs a paint brush. The key I've noticed with you, based on the post you made with all the scripture quotes and incorrect conclusion of Catholicism is that there are key important details you've overlooked and so drew the wrong conclusion because of applying decent sounding ideas in a situation where they are actually counterproductive and bad advice. God bless you.

    • @seansoutdoors
      @seansoutdoors  3 роки тому

      @@ScottWConvid19 So which one is it for you, because if you are not Catholic and you want to follow Jesus, then you sure missed something? The sad fact is that many Christians don't realize that the Bible was put together by the Catholic Church (Because the Church has the authority given by Christ Matthew 16:16-19 fulfilling Isaiah 22:20-24.) So, the Bible was put together in the 4th century by the Catholic Church. What did Christians follow the first three centuries? It was the oral teachings of the Apostles and their successors the bishops. Read the early writings and Church Fathers. They all taught that Jesus is truly present in the Eucharist. They all taught infant baptism. They all taught devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary. Then in the 16th Century, a Catholic priest defected from the Church and changed the wording in the Bible in Romans 3:28 in order to try to support his idea that Faith alone will save you. Now all non-Catholic Christians (other than the Orthodox Church) have been formed out of this man's lie. These are the facts. Sadly, many Christians don't even know why the Bible is titled the Old Testament and New Testament, which refers to the covenants that God made with humanity to save us from sin and death. And the only place where Jesus tells us what the New Covenant is is at the Last Supper. Read 1 Corinthians 11:23-32 or Luke's Gospel. Then read John 6:51-59 and tell me what Jesus is talking about. Then read John 6:60 and 6:66 They struggled to believe Jesus meant it literally that we must eat his flesh and drink his blood, and because of that the disciples of Jesus left him because they didn't want to believe Jesus meant what he said in John 6:51-59 but that is exactly how we enter into the New Testament (Covenant). These are the facts, this is the truth. Come home to Jesus' Church and you will be able to fully enter into the New Covenant. God bless you.

    Never draw a bow back without an arrow loaded. Worse case scenario if your release fails or you accidentally release the string is you lose an arrow. No arrow and you can risk bodily harm as the bow is most likely going to explode from being dry fired. Most of us I'm sure know this and it is the only thing I found in the video that was not absolutely excellent!! Great job!!

    I had that bow, it was my first one and I loved it! I think it is a great beginner bow.

    Got my distances dialed in but my groups are still pretty sporadic. This is helping tons. I've realised I'm a head mover and I tend to use my straight arm to push the bow towards my target when I release because I think I'm not letting that front shoulder drop and relax.

    Good video, thanks Sean! I was at the range shooting 6-8 arrows before walking to the target and it was killing me! Going to only shoot 2 from now on! Makes sense, especially since when you're hunting you are only shooting 1 arrow, haha. God bless man!

    I've been hunting 8 years and I always watch vids like this to improve. This was well done. Only suggestion is to actually shoot the bow for people. then they can see your form and follow through.

    Well thought out, good points, especially about the fingers on the bow hand. I hadn't thought of that, but it makes sense.
    ~I shoot a stickbow, bare, with a thumb draw, so my style is a lot different, but even still, everything you said makes sense. Thanks!
