Gotta keep in mind it's a medium format camera. So it's not going to be as fast as the APS-C sensor cameras. I would love this camera for portraiture and landscapes. Just couldn't really see using it as a street camera. Great video though.
Yeah, I think it’s doing a good job in comparison to older medium format systems, but it’s always going to be a game of catch up as both systems develop. If I was a portrait photographer, this would absolutely be a top choice for me!
looks like a great option..I use a slower DSLR,and there's no real difference in the street shooting.Great shots are composed,so i dont need spray and pray..
I think it‘s actually great for nearly all types of photography. These days we‘re all looking for speed and bursting through shots, I imagine it to be really nice to be slowed down by a medium format camera and appreciate photography, think about the shot and MAKE a photo instead of just taking it. But obviously there a lot of areas and styles where speed is needed so it‘s great that we also have those really fast cameras.
What do you mean "its not fast" and why is this inherent to medium format? Makes zero sense. If this camera has slow auto focus, slow burst rate, high shutter lag, thats all due to this being a badly designed camera and has nothing to do with it being a larger format.
@Phil Jones65 Agreed. I think its straight up misleading marketing to call 44x33mm for medium format. The width is still less than the width of 35mm film.
Great video and first impressions on the usability of the GFX! Hope you had a great time in Montreal! Sad you didn’t get to spend more time here. We might not have the CN Tower, but we make up for it with our own personal charm

Nice video - so, what was the conclusion - is medium format only useful if you need to print big or did it give something more than just resolution vs Fuji APSC?
For me, it's not going to replace any of my gear, but I respect the direction and ideals that Fujifilm are working towards with this format. The resolution aspect isn't really necessary anymore given the state of current APS-C and full-frame sensors. I did notice a certain "look" to the imagery, but again, not quite enough to make me want one/justify it. I don't often shoot at shallow depths of field, so I'm not personally looking for that look anyway. But yet still, I only shot with it for a couple of hours so this was definitely only my first impressions and I want to revisit it as the system develops!
yes I want one,or both the R and the S..It's cute to have the smaller sensors, flip screens and all that, yet when i am out, really shooting,i want to get images i can print and have around the house..I want some HUGE posters and images framed, and since I still shoot film too,all the better.I'm just wondering about the possibilities in monochrome..wow..
What is the practical use for a medium format these days? Extreme large files, bulky, slow, expensive? Nice for cropping, maybe billboard work? What else? I have an XT2, wondering what the advantage of purchasing this would do? Someone mentioned portraits. How are portraits better?
zoom factor is not related to the canera body, but to the lens… so… the currently longest native lens for gfx is 250mm, can be paired with a 1.4 tele extender… but, you can use any non-R Canon lens via adapters, albeit expensive with autofocus support, on the GFX
I thoroughly enjoy your videos. Always very relaxing. Good music, not loud and invasive. Good editing and good production value all around. All the best to you.
i'm going to have to rent the gfx 50R go for landscape day out and try it out for myself, BUT the 100Mp coming out soon from fuji too, do you think you may get your hands on that beast of a camera? cheers for the informative video.
Yes, renting before buying is always a wise choice! The GFX 100 is very exciting indeed. I'm intrigued to know what other specs they might throw at it, but mainly I'm seeing it as an exceptionally large sized sensor in a DSLR sized body! Hopefully, I'll get a hands-on, but these things are never guaranteed, unfortunately.
You're more excited about the camera instead of the composition results and final message of a photography. Even with XE3 or XH1 you can do impressive photos with much less cost of the system. 50R is big and bulky, people will observe you immediately. For street Xpro2 will be the best choise or the new XT3.

ridiculous comment… if you’ve ever used a medium format camera, you’ll know how caoable this one is, and it’s addictive in image output as well… biggest issue - you’ll never be satisfied with any other images again
@@mortenthorpe Yea real medium format, this a cropped sensor that has output on par with a A7R4
@@robert7622 that’s even more unibformed than the other comments in general for this video!!! you obviously have no idea of the actual use cases and strengths of medium format - but look at any serious review compairing any medium format to any full frame, and you’ll see how effortlessly image output of MF beats FF
@@mortenthorpe Oh really? Lol.. Oh so how is this 6 year old 50mp sensor better then a new Sony 64mp FF sensor? Resolution? Dynamic range? Low light performance? What exactly? Lol Oh it’s just the “feeling” and “look” lol
@@robert7622 on all of those points you mention.. but look at any serious review comparison… and then conaider that GF lenses are well above optical quality of any sony lens !!!
