From what I remember reading, Cpt. Nolan was something of a toxic personality and had some contempt for the cavalry as they had not participated much in previous battles due to the fixed nature of the battles. When the order to capture the guns was communicated Lucan asked "Guns? What guns?" and Nolan responded by waving at the guns at the end of the valley and saying 'There, sir, are your guns." The battle of Balaklava would have faded into obscurity if it weren't for Tennyson's poem and Roger Fenton's photography. The Crimean War saw the first use of battlefield photography and it was also the first to use the telegraph to pass on the results of battles to the public within days. The public back home became enthralled by this battle from the poem and when they heard about the soldiers' primitive living conditions with the onset of winter approaching, they contributed knitted scarfs, socks and full face coverings that became known as balaclavas. Excellent video work by the way! My only criticism is that when firing from a distance the guns were firing solid shot and the shell bursts were timed to go off before they hit the ground. If you're interested in Roger Fenton's photography I made a video called Balaklava that you can find on my channel.
Another point to add onto Nolan being a bit toxic is that Bingham, Lord of Lucan, had been so notably absent from the battles thus far that he had unfairly earned the moniker "Lord Look-on" from some of his fellow officers, which certainly didn't help matters.
Nolan would have been court martialled if he had survived. He knew what Raglan wanted the cavalry to do but failed to explain it. Lucan could and should have refused to order the direct attack he thought Raglan was ordering, its called leadership.

The Charge of the Light Brigade wasn’t the disaster it’s been made out to be. 123 men killed, wounded or captured, a lower casualty rate than the infantry regiments at the Alma and the Inkerman. It drove the Russians from their position and Russians didn’t relish coming out to face those troops again. They found it difficult to believe sober troops would do such a thing. It was thought to be a terrible disaster due to the bad reporting by William Howard Russell which was then used by Tennyson as the basis for his poem. 600 men rode through and drove off 2,500 Russian light cavalry. Had the heavy cavalry followed them up as was intended the entire Russian force would have been driven off the field in confusion. Instead Lord Lucan stopped the attack halfway through and called off the heavy cavalry which would have made it even more spectacular. Those Russians never came out on horseback to play cavalry again. They were awestruck by the feat of arms who had had nothing to drink but water.

It's said that he killed 4,000 men himself in his last stand against the armies of Crassus, but his body was buried amongst his own army and given no recognition or honor, because they wanted him to be remembered as nothing more than a common slave.

And just because you own a piece of land, the government won't recognize your SELF-PROCLAIM title, otherwise all house owners in UK would-be lords and ladies. And FYI, when you buy something in EstablishedTitles, you don't even legally own the land just the piece of paper that they send to you saying that you are a lord/lady

Charging an army, while
All the world wonder’d:
Plunged in the battery-smoke
Right thro’ the line they broke;
Cossack and Russian
Reel’d from the sabre-stroke
Shatter’d and sunder’d.
Then they rode back, but not
Not the six hundred.
Cannon to right of them,
Cannon to left of them,
Cannon behind them
Volley’d and thunder’d;
Storm’d at with shot and shell,
While horse and hero fell,
They that had fought so well
Came thro’ the jaws of Death,
Back from the mouth of Hell,
All that was left of them,
Left of six hundred.
When can their glory fade?
O the wild charge they made!
All the world wonder’d.
Honor the charge they made!
Honor the Light Brigade,
Noble six hundred!
thank you helped so MUCH 😍
The charge of the light brigade, a truly sad moment in history that simply happened because someone wanted honour and glory.
And partly because of an miscommunication in orders.
you literally just have to look at wwi for other examples of suicidal charges ordered by officers purely for their own honor and ego.
Orders are orders is the cowards excuse.
Except thats what the military is enterly build upon, to follow orders or suffer consequences. It aint white and black thinking afterall.
@@condorscondor Apparently you've never been in the military. If you've had, you would never issue such an ignorant comment.
The Poem At School... goosebumps and tears...Half a league...Half a league❤
a higher quality level. great work
That trumpet at the end was eerie.... ~ the last order heard by someone.....
Why is no one talking about how detailed that slow mo musket shot was? They even added the sparks
I had been watching Admiral (2008) before I switched to this. That film too has multiple mentions of Sevastopol
It's nuts how you keep noticeably improving with every single video you put out
Another amazing episode accompanied by a beautiful soundtrack
Watching these videos always gives me goose bumps. Keep up the amazing work Yarnhub crew
Such a great video. Amazing moment in history preserved here. Really good retelling of it.
Established titles is a scam company ran out of Hong Kong and isn't even recognized by Scotland, don't fall for the scam
I thought it was in iceland
Fantastic story. Thank you
Amazing video yet again by Yarnhub! You guys never fail to impress me!
The detail at the end with the trumpeter was perfect ¡¡¡ thanks
At least that French officer who ordered his cavalry into action was able to provide some help
Quite simply one of the most enjoyable and excellently produced narratives I’ve seen to date - Very Well Done!!
8:02 gives me T-34 vibes, such a cool slow-mo shot!
why is the quality so good!? Keep up the great work!!
500K!!! Can’t wait until you guys hit a million subs!!
The Book of Faces took me a few seconds lol. All the subtle details and references y’all throw into the background are why you’re my favorite UA-cam channel. There’s always stuff to look at in the background.
half a million subscribers! Keep up the great stuff! Love the video
Love hearing land of hope and glory in the background
I love this story. There was even a poem written about it. It was called "Charge Of The Light Brigade"
They quote the poem several times in the video.
@@RobertDecker417 Ik thx
Don't forget, there is also a song loosely based off of it! "The Trooper" Iron Maiden
Love the music. Beautiful.
You'll take my life, but I'll take yours too
You'll fire your musket, but I'll run you through
So when you're waiting for the next attack
You'd better stand, there's no turning back
Finally a reference lol
The bugle sounds the charge begins
But on this battlefield no one wins
The smell of acrid smoke and horses breath
As we plunge on into certain death
@@trainboi777yall6 The horse, he sweats with fear, we break to run
The mighty roar of the Russian guns
And as we race towards the human wall
The screams of pain as my comrades fall
Your best yet. Powerful work.
Man these animated sponsors are very convincing
Your animations are awesome
Great video! Loved every minute of it!
I still reallly want a "Spartacus and the Third Servile War" video
From what little is known of his time in Thrace before being enslaved by the Romans, to his time in the ludus learning the gladiatorial arts, to his stand at Mount Vesuvius, to his fall at the hands of Crassus' legions. It's said that he killed 4,000 men himself in his last stand against the armies of Crassus, but his body was buried amongst his own army and given no recognition or honor, because they wanted him to be remembered as nothing more than a common slave.

Finally it's here .
Begone, bots.
I really love the animations in these videos. They add so much to the story telling.
Not gonna lie I thought the video was for battle of Doiran because of Sabaton. That's an idea for the next vid :)
5:35 Alfred Lord Tennyson. Nice
Nice animation 👌
Wow just wow I’ve never heard of this charge and I’m just amazed
Hey Yarnhub can you make a video talking about how these amazing videos are made? Like the brainstorming, the research, and animation?
I love how Ragland does the Churchill "Beaches" speech lol
Heard about this all my life and never researched it till now . Those were some brave soldiers that day 🙏🇺🇸
This is your best video yet visually. Keep up the good work.
"And mine was not to reason why, mine was but to do and die
At Crimea with the charging light brigade" -Horse Soldier by Corb Lund
war never changes
Half a league, half a league,
Half a league onward,
All in the valley of Death
Rode the six hundred.
“Forward, the Light Brigade!
Charge for the guns!” he said.
Into the valley of Death
Rode the six hundred.
“Forward, the Light Brigade!”
Was there a man dismayed?
Not though the soldier knew
Someone had blundered.
Theirs not to make reply,
Theirs not to reason why,
Theirs but to do and die.
Into the valley of Death
Rode the six hundred.
Cannon to right of them,
Cannon to left of them,
Cannon in front of them
Volleyed and thundered;
Stormed at with shot and shell,
Boldly they rode and well,
Into the jaws of Death,
Into the mouth of hell
Rode the six hundred.
Flashed all their sabres bare,
Flashed as they turned in air
Sabring the gunners there,
Charging an army, while
All the world wondered.
Plunged in the battery-smoke
Right through the line they broke;
Cossack and Russian
Reeled from the sabre stroke
Shattered and sundered.
Then they rode back, but not
Not the six hundred.
Cannon to right of them,
Cannon to left of them,
Cannon behind them
Volleyed and thundered;
Stormed at with shot and shell,
While horse and hero fell.
They that had fought so well
Came through the jaws of Death,
Back from the mouth of hell,
All that was left of them,
Left of six hundred.
When can their glory fade?
O the wild charge they made!
All the world wondered.
Honour the charge they made!
Honour the Light Brigade,
Noble six hundred!
And this... brought me tears to my eyes
Funnily enough I read this poem today in my English lit GCSE lesson
Edit: by poem I mean the poem by Lord Tennyson about the events of this battle: 'The charge of the light brigade'
Lucky our school did the love topic rather than the conflict any tension
Half a league, half a league, half a league onward! Forward the light brigade! Into the valley of death rode the 600
Ngl, Into the Valley of Death sounds like something from Sabaton
This gets my vote of best Yarnhub video! The music was great, the visuals were great and I like that you used the parts from "The Charge of the Light Brigade".
As for the ad, you can literally call yourself anything, a lord, lady, captain, or whatever you want. You don't need a piece a paper that gives you the 'right'.
It’s incredible how much this channel has improved since it started. You started with good animations and content and are now producing masterpieces. Great stuff
это как в игре, когда случайно отдал приказ кавалерии напасть и забыл про них, потом удивляешься "вы что там делаете?" (:
The rocks texture and horse are improved and the animation is smooth thank you yarnhub team for making quality content even its only a week i hope u take care and don't be pressured to much
