AS I remember they struggled convincing the independent music press of the credibility due to Dave Stewars influence. Why that should matter,I dont know but such is the ways of pretentious music journalists and indie music fans.
that rap reeks early 90s, that same flow everybody was also doing. no hating though. i love curve. when i was getting into shoegaze, through loveless, whenever i listened to soon i would think to myself "i wish they had an album going in this dancey shoegaze direction". i had no idea i was gonna come across curve and that was exactly their formula. i love doppelganger and pubic fruit ever since.
True pioneers of particular blend of electronica and shoegaze-y noise guitar sound. After their debut album such fusion became widespread and band known as Garbage capitalized on such mix very well.
Amazing track, have loved this since 1991 and it still stands up today. A stunning blend of grungey guitar, relentless bass, sampling and rap thrown in for good measure - faultless, Toni is still the most gorgeous thing on earth!!
Nic and Andrea, I'd never heard of this band until 10 minutes ago, found through a random chain of events. A month ago I was watching your channel for the first time after after being INAD scammed. Small world!
@@harrybosh9590 That's an interesting take on things, Mr Bosh. Whether you're right or wrong I cannot say, but in the case of the Manics versus Oasis, yes, totally how they were promoted, I think. How successful in Germany were Blur or Pulp (as some of the other leading 'Britpop' bands of the era), or I dunno, The Wildhearts (as contemporaries of Terrorvision - I was more into The Wildhearts myself, but a good friend of mine loved Terrorvision), do you know? I'm genuinely curious. What makes the record company put loadsa money behind promoting some bands overseas rather than others. One could argue that Oasis are as quintessentially British as could be, so why promote them so much elsewhere in Europe, when the music of other bands would've travelled more easily?
As great as their music is, it's simply not mainstream. It has depth and great vocals, but it may be a bit too serious and dark for the mainstream crowd.
I stumbled across the EP this track is taken from in a bargain clearance bin back in 1991 and it became one of my favourite tracks of all time - simply sublime
Gosh, I loved this EP (and Toni Halliday), back in 1991. Never got into the album tough, didn't feel that my vinyl copy had the depth of sound the first couple of singles had.
Wonderful band and in that group of underrated bands and artists of which I could name many. Got to see them live a couple of times back in early 90's. Huge crush on Toni !
Loved these from the first hearing. Going into Selectadisc Notts telling them to get it in 3wks before it was generally released. Also saw their warm up gig at Trent Poly/Uni in rag week for 50p, i was a student afterall
Where ir all began..remember getting a promo of this about three months before release..still sounds fantastic. ..pioneers of this sound alongside MBV.
Sublime is the word. So good on so many levels, even after all these years. Curve makes you feel like you are wading through their layered soundscapes, its fascinating music with amazing vocals.
Loved Curve back in the 90s. First time I've heard this... I don't think the "rapper" was adding much but a few seconds to the length of the recording! Thanks heavens he didn't make it to the albums
Released about the same time as The Orb’s Little Fluffy Clouds (late 1990/early 1991). A few months later The Prodigy released Charly. Was there ever a better time for music?
Ok, so I've been listening to Curve's songs tonight (discovered them today, it sounds crazy I know) and how can they be compared to Garbage is beyond me, really. This woman's voice is haunting and their music has a dark feel that Garbage never had and never will have. I'm sorry for Shirley Manson but Toni beats her a hundred times over, no doubt about it. I never liked Garbage except for a couple of songs but Curve is a mix of rock, shoegaze, even goth, they had everything.
I remember hearing this on the radio. Found out they were playing a tiny gig at The Shakespeare Inn in Derby and dragged some mates down. Bought the new issue of NME in my lunch break and they'd stuck Toni Halliiday on the front cover and named the EP as their single of the week. We sat in the pub that night, only to be told that the band cancelled the gig with an hour's notice, based on the strength of the NME coverage. Couldn't blame them. Gutted though. Can only imagine watching them play this in a tiny room with about 40-50 punters, all within touching distance of the stage. Wall of sound?
This intrigued me, but it looks like you might be mistaken. They certainly both have Indian descent and similar ages, but JC-001's a Pandy not a Coleman. Can you give me a link, to prove it please? I'd like it to be true. :)
@@Wout.vlmnck Thanks for the reply. Yes, I accept that it was JC-001 that was rapping on this, but I wanted to see some proof to backup the claim that he is Jaz Coleman's brother. I think Infinity- Mi was likely wrong. Both are awesome, anyway. =)
This is a weird song for me, I half-love it. Much prefer it when Toni does the rapping. Even though there was greater to come, how does a band appear so fully formed on their first release? Sublime.
Excellent tune if without the rap. Rap is a poison that effectively kills everything near it. The only rap that comes close to good is Run DMC. This tune is killed by the rap.
Off beats, shoegaze, electronica, and rap!
This is fuckin amazing!
Massive crush on Toni Halliday as a young lad 🥰
One of the most underrated bands EVER
Peter Willis Yes, yes, yes.
loved them in the 90s when they were out, still listening now, they shit over most bands

i like mbv, dad gave me a curve cd. now obsessed

More than 30 years old......and still an absolute banger. Utterly glorious start to end.
Ever under-appreciated and over-looked, how are they not up there with the greats? Curve always and forever iconic.

First song I ever heard from Curve. Hooked after about a minute in.

It would stand up today, anything decent would. The golden age of pop music finished a while ago. Not that there isn't great music being produced :)
one of the best dammed bands this world has ever seen.
WAY ahead of their time.
Love the era of music where otherwise excellent songs had to have *Some Rap* in the middle. Don't ever change, the 90s.
I think I bought everything Curve released. I don't understand why they never made it bigger.
