I remember when I discovered Curve, about '94, '95, it was a total revelation. Intensity and subtlety at the same time, and such a unique sound. Always on my playlist and on my top 5 list of all time favorite bands.
Two highly influential figures in my teens. Had a crush on Dave back then. Curve was my favorite band around that time, while still being drenched in such different genres of music that all influenced me so deeply. So much amazing music back then. 80s, 90s, beginning to gradually thin out in the 2000s. What epic times for underground and independent music and culture, while simultaneously our culture(s) were illusively being stolen from us with the corporate virus taking over and cheapening/ sterilizing our art through our media outlets. It goes beyond reminiscing, realizing how calculated and sinister it all has been. So much longing to be able to experience those eras once again, as well as something similar, but unique to these times, not so deeply tainted by corporate corruption.
Doppleganger is one of my favourite albums of all time. "Horrorhead", "Lillies Dying", "Fait Accompli"... just fantastic. Toni was amazing and utterly gorgeous.
I mean Gamelan music and Curve don't sound the same. Curve sounded like MBV (think Swallow but with straightforward vocals) and Curve wouldn't be famous if they didn't sound shoegaze.
This takes me back watching 120 minutes on Sunday night.
this was about the time I was loving Curve and crushing on Toni
Now youre an old failed boomer

She is so beautiful, gaaaah! I've been a fan since the time this interview aired.

I never thought Toni was so much fun and laughed a lot, they were always very serious and dark in their clips. Love them
MTV 120 Minutes was actually a good TV platform for the alternative & underground music!
Dean’s bass line slides and thuds so well on Coast. Big influence on my playing.
And you are???
