I love listening to your gentle voice and use of language while watching scenes of the Portuguese countryside. If all your narration was pieced together, it would make a wonderful audio book about your new Homestead life. I read a book years ago of a Victorian English woman who married an Australian and went to live in the Outback. I just loved her story of how she managed to cope in a much simpler world without a cold store, and her methods trying to keep food cold while living in extreme heat. You're building a beautiful, but similar lifestyle today in the 21st century.
My eyes did see and read your comment And said this is special send to the brain. My brain having read said this is spiritual send it to the heart. My heart then read and almost 💔.
@@theoriginhomestead it was called "S'pose I die" I think. Miserable title, but I guess life must have been a struggle for the lady. I'll try to find it, and if I still have it, I'll send it to you.
Once touched by a woman myself and 40 years later I tell you the truth it's a woman's touch That makes beautiful every man's life ❤. Your channel brings back to us so many beautiful memories.
Awesome! TIP! On the Water Pump. You have a filter on that pump, on the right in the video. That screen will filter out sediments and junk. Please check that screen (it just unscrews) each month for junk that is filtered out. As you get a feel for how much junk is coming through, adjust the frequency of checking, and cleaning out that filter. Moss, algae, and sediments will cut the water flow signicantly. I learned that on my Shurflow water pump as well while camping. :) Looking GREAT!
Hi Dan and Laura. I absolutely love your channel and what you are doing. Here is a small thanks for all your hard work producing these enjoyable videos. Edit: Daryl from Utah, U.S.
If you put the same amount of planning and thought into your actual home as you have your out house you will have a spectacular palace. The thought and planning really shines through. I am both impressed and proud at what you have accomplished. Great job!
@@theoriginhomestead I second what António said above long time ago when i was young I almost died inside a cabin / bathroom built outside of the house in the patio only difference it was a cabin made of brick and cement- completely sealed without any air circulation with a gas boiler inside after a 10 minutes bath when I open the door I felt to the ground with a feeling of complete lack of strength and as if i was drunk....I stayed lying in the ground for a few minutes until I catch my breath again and my head started to function again....I was very lucky to come outside alive.... a few more minutes inside breathing carbon monoxide and I had gone.....that boiler needs a straight chimney until it goes off the roof and when you are taking a shower there must be air circulation...it's your life that's at stake.....
I agree. The boiler needs to be vented to the outside. Otherwise, you are emitting all of the combustion fumes, which will probably have Carbon Monoxide, into the outhouse. Take the vent pipe either out through the wall or the roof. And, as was stated, since there will be combustion, leave a window open a little for circulating air. Do these and you should be fine.
You are doing so well! I can't believe how quickly the outhouse is coming together and it's looking great! That first shower is gonna be soooo well deserved and delightful haha. Just a tip, you can buy separators for the urine on amazon if you haven't already got one. Collect the wee in a little pot, dilute it 1:10 with water and use as a fertiliser. That way the "dry stuff" won't smell bad, you can basically continue until the bucket is full until you have to empty it. 💚💚
Thanks! It’s gonna be such a nice feeling finally using the shower ahha. We have a separator for the urine from our toilet in the van build, i’m thinking of installing it as a way of utilising the urine as a source of nitrogen and like you say using it as a fertiliser 🤗 thanks for the tips
Separate your urine from your poo using a funnel and a plastic bottle to catch the urine it will help keep the odir down. Also add some plants and flowers if you can to help with odor.
Phenomenal effort guys and I love the outhouse 👍 Just so you know the wooden slats over the electrical box on the outside of the outhouse are overlapping the wrong way, if you have a downpour it’ll get destroyed. The back slat needs to overlap the one in front and so on otherwise the rain will just drip between each slat. Sure you know this anyway and was just a tiny oversight but I’d rather mention it than you destroy your metre 👍 Loving the content! 💪🥳👍
Thanks! Dan actually realised he’d done it the wrong way later and changed it but didn’t film it. Very astute of you to notice🤗 he’s sealed it all up as well so no water can get in
Hi. Just check if you have installed the gas boiler correct to allow co2 to escape. Here in South America we had people die due to co2 poisoning because of incorrect gas boiler installation. Indore need a chimney or install outdoor.
Your doing amazing. A few tips 1 insolation, it's going to get very cold during the winter. 2 waterproof the water pump. It will get wet. 3 you need to extend the exhaust up out of the roof. Gass fumes can kill you. Or install it outside. The flue needs to be above the food. They get hot and will scorch the wood. I wish you the best of luck always.

A u-bend under the sink will stop smells coming up if it goes into a container of water that will become stagnant. Also, the sink may not drain if it has a flat bottom so you could thump it with a hammer to have a slight drop to drain slowly and put a ring around the base so it sits stably. Something like a socket from a socket set that is around the same size as the metal plughole may do for this.
