Scotland was not a member of the EU, and as an independent nation does not meet the EU's criteria for entry. The UK enabled Scotland to join the EU. And the UK voted to leave the EU. Only by being in the UK did Scotland have the economic and political power to be in the EU. Unfortunately Brexit happened, but thank god we are still in the UK. Any trade deals negotiated by the UK will benefit Scotland way beyond any deals we could negotiate as Scotland alone.

It was assumed an independent Scotland would automatically remain in the EU. But that was wrong. And it is an assumption Scotland could join EFTA. The UK is the best and most sensible union for Scotland to be in. And this has been the case for centuries.
@@amartin3893 independence groups not the SNP have already approached EFTA and been told Scotland does already qualify, it's a two year process, which is about what time it will take to leave the UK, EFTA is linked to the EU so all EFTA countries can trade with the EU, so Scotland will have a market place of over 360 million people plus better protection for its natural resources like fishing ground's, so it's a win win, this is not speculation, members of pro independence groups have as I said already been in discussions and obtained guarantees from EFTA. people have to remember the SNP is just one group in the movement.

Never heard of EFTA, Scotland had an option outside the EU, it works well enough for Norway and Switzerland
