  • The Straits of Mackinac, connecting Lakes Huron and Michigan, are a crossroads of the Great Lakes. Thanks to the high volume of maritime traffic passing through the straits, they are also a graveyard of wrecked vessels, ranging from early sailing ships to modern bulk freighters. Craig Wilson, chief curator of Mackinac State Historic Parks examines a few well-known Straits of Mackinac shipwrecks and discuss the reasons for and reactions to the dangers of this critical maritime crossroads.
