    Thank you so much for your explanation! We were ready to ditch our expensive coffee machine until I learned from you how to clean and change the silicon gasket. It didn't even need a new gasket, just cleaning. P.S. I am a home handy-woman.

    Watching this because my breville is spraying water out of one side of the brew head. So when the group head is on, it pushes the water down one side of the puck resulting in poor coffee. Was curious how to remove these parts. Excellent demonstration.
    I’ve had my machine for years, and have flogged it hard. Time for a new one, but I’m very attached to this machine so keen to set it up in the shed 👌 Thanks for the demonstration. 👍

    Thanks for the vid. A few additions and warning from me; I did this and had a Phillips head, not hex, all good! However, I performed this while the machine was still a little warm inside, I'm not sure if this impacted what happened, but the screw head stripped off! So I had to drill it out and re-thread the hole! Just a warning to folks, wait for the machine to be completely cool before trying to remove the bolt/screw or the laws of thermal expansion may bite you like they did me!

    • @ureviews

    Great explanation. I was able to pop out the cover with light prying of a spoon and twisting it with my hand. I used tweezers to pull the gasket out. I couldn't believe how dirty the cover was after 2 years despite regular cleaning cycles. I guess before I do cleaning I need to manually take that off and and clean it manually. The most difficult part for me was the alan wrench, the one that came with it was small and I couldn't get leverage, the screw was in there tight and was a bit clogged up with coffee.

  • @disusereuse_ApplianceHealer
    @disusereuse_ApplianceHealer 4 роки тому +5

    Sometimes they come in for repairs here and have been way over filled for many years so the coffee grinds get all up under the screen and block the other small hole that leads too the pressure gauge. It's important not to over pack or over fill the porta-filter:)

    Hi, thanks for your demonstration, however my concern is the hexagonal bolt which requires the allen key to undo it is stuck tight and cannot be unscrewed. As a last ditch effort I've even tried using WD40 etc to try to lubricate the thread...to no avail. Looks like my Breville BES900 is finished...glad I only paid $400.00 for it on E-bay.
    Amazing...15 mins later in a do or die effort, I inserted the allen key into the slot as shown on your video, then I held the key with a pair of pliers to give more strength to my efforts...voila !!...it unscrewed, however the allen key is now hideously twisted!
    So before replacing the silicone seal I sprayed a little WD40 into the allen key hole replaced the silicone seal and with the now hideously twisted allen key, replaced the screw, but not so tight this time and reassembled the machine.
    I gave the machine a 'clean cycle' run to make sure all traces of WD 40 are now gone.
    Thanks again for your video...Mike in Australia.

Our selector is busted and when we select steam wand, all the steam comes though the espresso part or into the catch at the bottom with nothing coming out of the want. We have poked the wand, descaled and cleaned the machine. Any help would be awesome!

    Believe it or not I haven't replaced my gasket in the 10 years I have owned my 840 XL. But I'm getting ready to replace the pump for the second time. So this time I will also put in a new gasket. There is a video on how to replace the pump and make sure you're buying the right one. It's not too complicated because I know I'm no genius. I can't imagine how many of these machines get tossed in the garbage because the pump goes out. If you are wondering, the new pump is about $40 on Amazon, a little cheaper than a brand new machine and my machine has run another five years before the pump has started to get a little weak.

    It would help if you mentioned how to install a new gasket- as in which side of the new gasket faces the machine. • @JoshPSommers
      @JoshPSommers 5 років тому +1

      First of all, way to be helpful. If you know the answer, you could have just answered the question. Apparently it isn’t obvious, otherwise I wouldn’t have asked. Secondly, he asks for suggestions on how he could make the video better or more helpful. For as long as the video is, verbalizing the proper orientation of the gasket would ensure that the video is clear and helpful to those, who like me, bought the new gasket on Amazon and didn’t receive any installation instructions.
      For those who have the same question: The rounded edge of the gasket goes towards the machine.
      See how easy that was, Dave?
