      Yeah I’m really interested in the science of this! But a lot of those sounds are composites of animals they would have lived with in the wild and learned and adapted to avoid. My cats freaked tf out too but my dogs just woke up, looked at me like "huh, interesting" and went back to sleep. I wonder if more intelligent animals just aren't bothered by it? Or maybe dogs still have the Apex predator mentality of wolves? I suppose it could just be that they didn't evolve it the presence of a threat that makes that type of noises so their brains aren't wired to associate it with danger. But domestic cats and their predecessors have historically always been hunted by birds of prey so it makes sense that those sounds would instinctively trigger the fight or flight response.
      It would be interesting to see how large parrots, ravens, and different classes of primates reacted to it!

      @@jagoldenpyrenees491 I disagree; your experience is anecdotal and not backed scientifically. Dogs have been domesticated far longer than cats and many dogs are no longer in touch with their ancestral instincts, so some kind of strange noise wouldn’t bother them. A lot dogs will even bark at any noise, anything they see outside, etc. Also, dogs are pack animals and chances are if the rest of their pack (including you) isn’t reacting, they may not either. House cats are a self domesticated species, and the majority of feline species are solitary hunters. They have better senses than dogs and are more stealthy and cautious. So it makes sense that certain noises might cause them anxiety or pique their interest. I have 4 cats who heard this video and had no reaction whatsoever.

The sound of humans or other dogs in distress however freaks them all the way out. Anything with a crying baby or puppy has to be watched on mute in my house lol. This is so interesting in the way she reacts to the carnivorous dinosaurs compared to the triceratops, I wonder if it’s an instinctual response to the sounds (from very early avian evolution alongside dinosaurs) or if they’re just similar sounding calls to modern predators of toucans

    • @ItsMeFern2019
      @ItsMeFern2019 5 місяців тому +2

      I feel like it's a bit of both! Maybe it's like how we instinctually react to different frequencies to dictate wether or not it's coming from a carnivorous or herbivorous animal??
      I have no idea how to explain it but all I know is hearing deer/horse/goat/cow sounds nearby just doesn't trigger anxiety like the sounds of big cats/hyenas/crocs/bears do, it's like a primal built in feature, that works for both ancient and current sounds.

    • @jacobcox4565
      @jacobcox4565 2 місяці тому

      The thing is we don't know what dinosaurs sounded like. The video says "scientifically accurate dinosaur sounds" but it's more like "scientifically informed dinosaur sounds." The sounds being used for the dinosaurs in this video are just edited bird calls, which is slightly better than using tiger roars and elephant trumpets. The only dinosaur that we have somewhat of an idea sounded like was Parasaurolophus, because some scientists made a replica of a Parasaurolophus crest and blew air into it like a musical instrument. Modern dinosaurs also wouldn't understand prehistoric dinosaurs even if they were alive. If I somehow recorded a caveman speaking a forgotten language, you wouldn't actually recognize it as words. All that toucan hears is loud noises, not some ancient language.

    • @jackbelinski2661

      @@jackbelinski2661 The toucan wasn't trying to communicate with the distorted bird calls. It was most likely making an alarm sound, which makes sense because those sounds were loud and unsettling. When I said you'd just register a forgotten paleolithic language as noise. I meant gibberish. Gibberish can sound like a language, but it's still just nonsense, and by "nonsense" I mean it doesn't make sense. Some people might recognize it as a language or some kind, but that's because we're all the same species and are really good at picking up patterns.

    Very interesting reaction, however I’m more curious about those “scientifically accurate” recordings given dinosaurs became extinct 60+ million years ago. Did scientists “recreate” those sounds based on cranial structures of fossils, or ???

      They recreated these sounds using a mixture of bird sounds and croc bellows, (birds is descended from non avian dinosaurs, while Crocs are closely related). Note that most Non avain dinosaurs don't have a syrinx or any sort of vocal cords, so they would bellow and hiss, rather than roar. These recreated sounds are purely speculation and some of these creatures could have possibly sounded entirely differently.

      Historically, scientists have used mammalian or reptilian sounds to 'replicate' what dinosaurs might have sounded like. These are pitched down bird calls, and as such, they are almost certainly a much more accurate representation. Just how much more accurate is speculative.

      @jennifersaar1611 Dinosaurs most likely would've made sounds in a similar manner to crocodiles, as they did not have syrinxes like modern birds do.

    sons especulativos sem base científica, eu me lembro desses sons quando saio na época, na verdade não há estudos reconstruindo sons de terópodes, isso é apenas sons aleatórios de pássaros
