I couldn't click play fast enough when I saw it. I wrote a longer take on the video in the axis thread on standupzone. Just as a caveat to anyone else watching this. I bet most of us are not lake foiler's like you. So remember guys. He's in flat water and foiling really small wakes off a jet ski. For example a lot of the prone surfer's I know out here in Los Angeles are all on AXIS gear and the favorite wing for prone surfing is the 900/910. So just use that as a reference point for comparing lake foiling to whichever sport you're doing. He's probably 1 size or so up from what you're used to riding. The black series was designed for wing foiling it looks like and man do they look slippery through the water. Great video as usual. Thanks for all that effort.
I think you’re right. Thanks for the comment and explanation. I agree they it’s a wing for higher speeds. Quite interested in the potential for lower drag wings. Will be great for this sport.
Erlend! Happy new year. I think you’re right. You can see how low the drag was during my pumping speed test. I suspect that will make it fast wing surfing!
Another great review. I am hoping to figure out what to get for next year’s fun. Maybe all those guys down under enjoying summer will have it all dialed for us before spring! I am also primarily a lake foiler a couple of states east of you but starting to dabble in prone surf and winging so an easily configurable system is important. Please keep up the fine work! And happy new year
Love your videos man! And really appreciate that you try to respond to most comments as well. Would be awesome to see a review on the the BSC1060. This is one of my favourite axis wings for a number of reasons except pumping. I find it quite hard to maintain speed pumping the 1060 for some reason. Would love to hear your thoughts on this.
I really like it too ... I agree, it didn't glide as well as the 1150, but I felt like it was very similar. I will add it to my to do list. Thanks, Bruce. Happy holidays!
My guess is the black series will “accelerate” when it’s used for the Wind wing. Also, got a bungee ;) will let you know when we set it up here in Maine
Devon, another nice review. But please tell us more about the "improvised launch." Is this the first time you have used this method? Will you be using it more often? Could this be an easier bungee launch for us rookies? Looks a bit more strenuous, as you have to stand and fight against the bungee. And how do you get your board to sit flat on the water? My board does a wheelie due to the weight of the foil.
I’ve had to do this type of launch for the AXIS 1000, if I recall correctly. I suppose I will have to use for any wing that is tuned to high speed performance (poorer low speed lift) and is too small in area (
I find a longer fuselage better. 80cm from the leading edge of the front wing to the trailing edge of the rear wing is my current favorite. I believe the longer fuselage gives a more powerful heave force for a smaller pumping action because the rear wing is further away from the pivot point (mast)
You did not talk about the fuse length. This would change pumping speed and carving. I also think adding the shim is causing more drag. Thoughts? The red and black fuses are not the same length. It's a little confusing.
Longer fuse increases the tail volume which provides pitch stability, so the pumping cadence slows. This usually helps increase pump duration. If you shim to make rear wing more pointed down (negative angle of attack) the drag does go up, and the cadence goes up because board pitches up more aggressively. And yes, red and black fuse do have different lengths.
Shimming really should be done to tune the foil to get the right pumping cadence and front foot pressure (in steady flight). Each foil has a right answer for the rider.
@@WakeThief my foil is finish and ready to use but not any wave here and almost every day ia rain Dev. Happy new year to Dev...sukses selalu dan salam hangat dari Indonesia 🙏
What about running dock start I weigh about 80 kg thinking of getting the 1050 but the only way to get going is from a running dock start (don’t have a bungee or boat)
There is a theme developing from the Black Series - bungee launches are very difficult?? Could be difficult to use these wings in marginal conditions when winging.
Great low speed lift and low drag are often mutually exclusive. This might be the case for the black series. However I do know the 910b has great low speed lift but the area of that wing is quite low.
@@WakeThief it’ll be great for our mates at axis to release an 1150 and 1010 in the black Series. Doesn’t seem to be anything with quite as much low end from your tests and others I’ve watched. I’m search for a great light wind option for winging in the black series. I’ve purchased the 1099 so it’ll be interesting to see how it goes with the lower area and reduced cord for slow speed take offs.
I think you have it spot on. Issue with 1010 and 1150 is the span will reach a point where the thinner black fuselages might become the weakest point in bending and cause wingtip deflection which makes pumping And foil control a bit more challenging. You’re spot on with larger chord for easy takeoff!
Thanks for your support. I’ve loved learning and sharing this new sport with everyone and appreciate everyone’s input, feedback and suggestions. Happy new year, Kalman!

@Wake Thief Working on getting you known in Geneva. A soon to be celebrity in Switzerland.
I have been watching all of your videos , thank you. What would you recommend for the following sports. 19ft jet boat throwing a pretty good waive compared to its size I can foil it with no hands on 76cm low aspect foil. I need a foil with a decent size mast like 75cm and I need it to curve in the ocean and in the lake. So it has to be able to go little faster not slower
Thanks, Russ! I'd love to help. Please email me directly with your weight? Where are you located? Do you want to prone surf or hand wing in the ocean, or continue using behind boat only? Any interest in dock start? Based on this, we can spec on for you.
How would you say the 1050 black is compared to the 1000 HA? Is it a big enough difference that it's worth getting the black series if the 1050 is the only HPS wing I'd be interested in?
Hey Chris. This is a tough one. I think they’re quite similar. It really depends what you’re doing. For what I do on the lake, I’d say they were similar, but I recall 1050 having better low speed lift and 1010 having better carving capability.
"80cm from the leading edge of the front wing to the trailing edge of the rear wing ..." Is that a "short" or "standard" fuse in the black series? Sure appreciate your reviews! I'm thinking about moving up from ultra short.
In red series this is the standard fuse. I’m sorry. Didn’t appreciate you were riding AXIS. For what I do, I like the short fuselage. Good compromise. Good for pumping and good for carving. Standard fuse makes carving less fluid and dynamic.

That’s a great point. If you’re going faster (winging) I might change my recommendation to standard.
