He joins Dennis Brain another legendary horn player. I’m so sad that I wasn’t aware that my favorite horn player is gone. Now we have two to remember. May Barry Tuckwell be remembered for his brilliance and his signature horn playing techniques. He is missed. 💔
The most fascinating aspect is that in the end, any clean tone you can hear is produced in your brain. Your brain just needs a particular input, a certain succession of pressure maxima and minima. Experimenting with an animal horn or with a shell, you can produce that sort of a code. Pressure per se isn't audible.
one useful thing about being a brass or horn player, I was the only one that could make the right sound on a conch shell at the last New Years party :)
It bugs me that the interviewer didn’t understand what he meant by”Why anybody would’ve wanted to make a sound out of, or worked out how to is guesswork”. The interviewer thinks he means ‘why would anybody use this?’ but he means ‘why would anybody think to buzz their lips at the end of a tube?’
@radiationboom I'm a Bari Sax player aswell, and I just took-up F Horn at the beginning of this year. If you have a good ear and are willing to practice both (you'll want to keep playing your sax so you don't lose your woodwind embouchure feel) you should give your best shot to trying the Horn! It's a truley a wonderful instrument; this last year's been really great as I've been learning how to deal with a brass instrument. Hope you're up for a challenge!
@radiationboom Go for it, horn is tons of fun, I think you might enjoy it if you patience enough to switch from woodwind to brass. I myself am a brass trying to master all instruments, so I can one day be a music teacher, but I play the horn in class, and I LOVE it.
@Nailsdewed Yes, sorta, they both read treble, but if you play the french horn with the trumpet, both on trumpet music, it starts to sound very funky sounding, so I would read out of a french horn book, and I learned out of a trumpet book, so if you use a trumpet book, have LOTS and LOTS of help with the fingering positions.
can anyone provide some more information about this documentary? Name year etc .. I cant find it. I woud like to watch the whole thing! any help is welcome
For a dedicated horn student that's only about 3 years... so in three years someone can play like Tuckwell? Well, that's interesting... good luck with that. Not that Tuckwell is by any means the best, but you certainly can't get there in three years.
RIP Mr. Barry Tuckwell, your excellent music stay forever.
Master piece

Some of my favorite horn players work the stash! All that hair on top your mouthpiece.. the best.
I love being the player of this instrument :)
at 7:04 is he trilling a quarter tone?
barry tuckwell best horn Player Ever all times!
Very wonderful sound. I wish i could play even 10% of his capability.
I love the sound of that large circular horn - very different from later types, does anyone know of any recordings featuring this type of horn?
Very interesting. That french hunting horn was really cool.

Very interesting how the idea of buzzing into something to make a noise arose on two opposite sides of the world independently from one another.

Barry Tuckwell, may he rest in peace and enjoy the heavenly horn choir with Dennis Brain.
I dont play this, but I find it very interesting.
Best instrument ever !
6:20 Tuckwell's Telemann - genial!

Whats the first music piece callled?
The horn evolved from the hunting grounds. =]
...ciò è davvero interessantissimo.
It's really good but did you really had to put the info in dead center
The piece at the begining is one of twelve horn duets by Mozart.
You play with dubble horn😱😱😏😏
Real horns have no valves! Lung control baby!
Not bad mr.tuckwell :)
At the beginning in the duet, is an F the highest note he plays? It's ridiculously high!
No C, so a g"' in the score for the horn
@@engelbertschoormansa G in the original music (because it's notated for a Horn in Eb) however the highest actual note is an F.
i have a question... i reach 4 octaves in 9-th grade is it good or i have to advance more ?
Did u keep playing?
I had a dream the other night where I was getting taught horn by Mr.Tuckwell after my horn teacher left me.
2016 son
@CowHoofOnAHotPlate Good for you! :)
det är en mozart horn duett, men han har transponerat om den till en högre tonart!
@mikebrockandroll
Mozart 12 Horn Duets
You think they are more well known? Dennis Brain sure, but I wouldn't say Radovan or Baumann are more famous.
I mean, if you're a horn player you really ought to know them all.... I think they're all roughly as well known as each other in the horn circles.
dont worry only 4000 hours of practice and you will get there :-)
I saw a hula hoop horn in the thumbnail.
If you want some tips contact me ;)
La bave du crapeau n'atteint pas le serpent à plumes.
can u just teach me how 2 play
really? 4000 hours of practice and i'll get somewhere?

Well he's definitely up there with the best.
i respect tuckwell . but i think his sound is too kinderer . i mean not so beautiful like radek baborak or stefan dohr or hermann baumann
this guy put me to shame at french horn :( and my brass teacher has that same exact horn!
ненавижу его
Почему?
