I have long had a very large soft spot for the L1011. Back in November 1991, Dad being a high ranking Navy officer had contacts in the RAF and so was able to get me on a flight from RAF Brize Nortan to Bermuda. It was one of the best experiences of my life and the food on board was top notch when compared to a BA flight on a 757 in June that year. On board the Tristar, I sat on the right hand side over looking the wing and found it fascinating watching the wing flex in mid flight. Also the sound of those RB211s in mid flight were unforgettable. Was even invited to the cockpit to chat with the pilots. Great times.
Great video, the Tri-Star is one of my favorite airliners, I only flew on one and I will never forget it, the TriStar I flew on was manufactured in 1973 N31014 TWA LAX To St. Louis Missouri on 04-04-1995
Flew on one to the Falklands in Sep 91 whilst serving in the RAF. I was an MT Driver for my 9 years in the service and spent 4 months on Tanker Pool (ASMT) at RAF Mount Pleasant. We didn't touch the VC10 or Tristar, these were PAN refueled by POL, however you cannot de fuel through the PAN, a,bowser is needed. Spent one night shift de fueling 80 tons of fuel off a Tristar due to a fuel leak. Flew back on the same 'Timmy'. ZA 706, full passenger spec. 705 was the other.
@chrise2602 I'm afraid they did not. They were all TriStar -500 modifications ex BA or PanAm. The 6 Tankers had extra fuel tanks and the HDU's below the passenger floor and the three C2/a, the original cargo bays. So unless you fell into the Forward or Mid Electronic Service Centres and pissed on the avionics, that's bull.
Well, the RAF TriStar fleet were all "Advanced TriStar-500s" powered by the 50,000lb RB211-524 B4 Engines rather than the early RB211-22B, flat rated at 42,000lbs. Yes the sound is different, but what price a 20% power increase?

I flew on Gulf Air Tristars into and from Doha, Qatar.
One heck of a plane.
Flew on a newly aquired RAF Tristar to Calgary in 1984 from Gutersloh, still in BA colours with the RAF circles, great experience.

Yes one of the most comfortable passenger aircrafts of the era.I flew several times long distance..great flying experience..
Beautiful sunny taxiing and takeoff I wish we still had these in service 😔
Love then L-1011s! So many happy memories! They are like family members!
You cannot see a plane more-beautiful than this.
Afraid to disagree. VC 10
Concorde: 'Hold my pint will you?'

Wonderful video. Wish the Tri-Star would be flying at RIAT this year.

Hello there! :)
There are quite a few of us actually :D
:D Greetings from Canada. I can speak, comprehend and understand Hungarian but I am learning to read and write better! XD
DanTheCaptain Good luck with your studies then and üdvözlet Magyarországról :D
The L-1011 had a couple elevators in the middle where the galley was under the passenger deck (or maybe the infamous Mile High Club).
Not on the RAF TriStar fleet. They were all short fuselage -500 variants.
@@geofflancaster8542 I flew on an RAF Tristar to afghan and they had the toilets downstairs, no elevators but about 6-7 toilets

Класс!! Буду такую модель делать в М.1:72
Солидный лайнер. Вживую такой не встречал.
I notice none of the RAF L1011's have that ominous "HUM" like the original passenger versions did....Bzzzzzzzz

Nearly as good as a VC10...well not quite
