I live in New Mexico and there is a huge amount of people who have come here from different states to work in the oilfield. My small town has gone from a population of around 25K to now over 100K populatiion. The oilfield companies pay ridiculous amounts of rent and while they can afford it, it has crippled our local economy because people not working in the oilfield don't make enough money to compete with rent that oilfield companies can afford, but the average citizen can no longer afford rent because the houses and apartments are so eager to rent to oilfield workers to make the most money. These oilfield workers send their money back home to Texas or wherever they come from while hardworking families have to live in crappy conditions because they simply can't afford to pay $2500 + for rent.
Tell me why the rich keep building on beaches around the globe? New beach front resorts are going up every year and are planned for many years in the future. What do they know about "rising sea levels" that we do not know??

When has this ever been a surprise to anybody at any point in the production of oil? Never in your lifetime Did we ever think oil companies were doing anything more than lining their pockets with profit. You cannot expect a corporation based on capitalism to regulate itself in direct conflict of that capitalistic goal. It is the government's job to regulate and enforce that regulation as opposed to compromising expected regulation in back door deals for the politicians' own benefit.
Thank you Representative Ocazio-Cortez! They could invest more in phytomining and bioleaching to reduce the harm of mining for at least some of the metals, elements, and minerals we need. I'd love to see some investment from the Chips and Science Act go toward their further study.
