Ryan, I'm 57 yrs old and have trained since I was 18. I've had several surgeries including a repair of a complete rupture of the labrum and two rotator cuff tendons (L shoulder). Spent YEARS trying to bring that left shoulder back up to speed. Just tried this and had a true blue "holy shit" moment. FAR better than simple face pulls. I owe you one!

@@shaivayogi Well, I just tried this exercise and it hurts my bad shoulder too much so it is probably beyond rehab at this point. However, if I had known about exercises like this decades ago I'm sure I could have avoided the injury in the first place. Kids starting out in bodybuilding today have it made with the internet, they can avoid all the mistakes we made. All I had in 1972 were the muscle mags and as you already know they were just about worthless. Happy training.

With each rep past six I was saying f-u, Ryan... f-u, Ryan...The burn was pretty intense but I could really feel it as long as I kept it a slow motion. Pretty damn good. Athlean-X had something like this in some of Jeff’s shoulder workouts and back stuff. It helped me a lot, and this right here is a fantastic improvement on that. Definitely doing this daily. I still use the black balls, but I hog 2 of the ropes so I have a wider pull. And I piss off more people in the gym.

I bought 2 long rope attachments (pretty cheap) on Amazon and take them with me in a backpack to gym (along with carabiner clips, some simple handles, etc. because sometimes that shit is missing on equipment around gym. Handles would be nice though but I've been pressing up the 2 ropes after pulling them back, also seen in a AX facepull video. Helps a lot. My try to get a TRX though as I can see it being handy.

RYAN!!! You need to put this out again and REALLLY tell everyone THEY GOT TO DO THIS! I've been doing this - everyday - since you put it out! In spite of attempting to maintain flexibility and balance by including yoga with weigh training- I've done yoga since early teens.. now 64.. I've been doing serious weight training again since I "retired" .. 6 months.. usually a couple hours a day.. when I first tried this exercise I instantly realized I had a huge blind spot in my training. I couldn't do this when I first tried. That's what's great about it.. just walk yourself more upright to make it easier. I now have 45 plates piled on to hold my full box cable machine to keep it in place as I recline to that 45° angle and pull!! Like you said you would realize there really something different about this. Using it as a warm up now it just fires me up. Something about activating all the upper muscles at the top just makes the rest of the body want to get in the game! Vantastick!!!! Exercise! Let's give it a name.. maybe after your wife for donating her panties 😜!!

There's a bunch of TRX'es at my local gym - but I don't have one at home, but I've found this can be done quite effectively with resistance bands as well.
Just tie it to a bar, lodge it in the door or whatever you got - bunny-ear that band to make a couple of make shift handles and go nuts. Not heavy enough? Move back or choose a bigger band. Too heavy? Inch forward or pick a smaller band. Cheers

  • @ssaafur

It’s a Cuban press. You can do these single arm as well to scale and you can do the with a band and a PVC pipe as well.
Smashwerx has some great variations of this and killer ring sweeps that are a full spectrum shoulder workout in themselves.
Key point, these are great to protect from injury and to improve mobility and alignment but they’re not what you need if you have a injured rotator cuff already. I stick with landline presses for less pain and less crunching in the joint if you feel that you need to press overhead.

    Ryan,
I am 12 years old and have been training since kindergarten. I've had six or seven knee blow outs and rupture of my bumbum (O-ring). Spent DAYS trying to put it back in! Just tried this and had a brown bum "holy shit" moment. Much better than simple red rover. IOU1.

Ryan have you ever tried heavy mace training, it hits all those areas and your grip improves significantly a lot better fella 👍

Now I’m wondering if there’s a way to do this with light dumbbells. Maybe facing down on an incline bench.

Going through PT for shoulder impingement, due to not strengthening those scapular muscles. This exercise fits the bill for strengthening and warming up my shoulders! Thanks.

Great stuff. I was wondering if you can make a video on accessories like those fat gripz and arm blasters... To see if they're worth it.
