- Here we go and welcome to this in-depth Deeper Connect Mini review. Deeper Network reached out to me to try out their latest and greatest decentralized VPN and Firewall solution. In times of gigabit internet connections, Wifi 6, and a ton of network devices this tiny box checks all the boxes for a modern and inexpensive network security device with a one-time payment. We take a look at the device itself, the basic functionalities and I tried it for a couple days in my own home network setup to give you some insights.

i was hoping you would discuss the most important part - the performance and user experience when you are working/surfing internet. Did you do a speedtest?

Thanks for your comment. I did some speed tests and I had no problem whatsoever to reach the estimated 1Gigabit network speed. It sometime fluctuates but this is more likely due to my ISP and my cable network connection with Docsis 3.1. You definetely get the best results with the smart route features. But even when you go full tunnel the results are in the 100Mbit range. So pretty good in my opinion.

My internet connection is Fibre, since there is no fibre connection on the deeper connect what would be the work-around? I have been waiting for many months for mine but as yet no delivery. I think this may not be a good option for me as i have several devices connected to the Fibre modem/router directly and then the rest are connected through wireless.
Any thoughts on this would be appreciated.
2 1gbps ethernet ports - either one can be "in vs out". The out side is the normal internet. Everything on the in side is protected by Deeper. Put a wifi or wired router on the inside for multiple servers / clients to be protected at the same time.
Keep devices you don't need the VPN for on the out side.
The fact you have a fibre connection is irrelevant.
@@HansHenderson I think it does matter as the fibre connection connects to the modem which has ethernet ports and I have devices connected to these ports on the modem. So I guess any device connected to the modem will not benefit from deeper connect.The deeper connect will connect in between this modem & hard wired to another wireless router in another location. Only the devices connected to the second router will benefit will it not?
@@allanmuir5465 I clearly stated how to tell / create the In vs the Out sides. Everything you leave on the Out side is unaffected and unprotected.
You need to build out your In side infrastructure so you have enough connections for the devices you want to keep protected.
If you think you need more than 1 Gbps buy more than one Deeper Mini, each one will be a separate such In network.
@@allanmuir5465 Obviously devices on your Out side fibre router need to be moved to one on the In side
if you want them to be protected by Deeper
@Jack Of All Trades Yes in order to be protected, the wifi AP the device is using must be on the In side.
Switch to the AP on the Out side then not involved with Deeper
How does it compare to Rob Braxman’s VPN router?
So, hide my internet activities from my ISP, but let strangers use my IP address letting my ISP think it’s me possibly violating the law? I would love to see a video about the liability of letting others share your bandwidth.
Can this get connected into an access point versus directly into the router or modem? Also want to make sure anything not hardwired will also be able to be protected?
I do it exactly that way and use it in my studio together with my access point. Works perfectly fine.
Avoid this rubbish. It's an overpriced Arp proxy. Get a proper next gen firewall like Untangle or Pfsense. This Deeper connect & Firewalla crap is not a proper security appliance...

yes, you can setup on dashboard, pretty simple configuration, a couple of clicks.
Can I use my router modem combo with my Orbi mesh with this unit
Yes you can.
The Deep Connect IndiGogo page says you need a separate modem router setup for the device to go between FYI

Thanks, but next time you review something , test it out fully first. After Watching David I still have no idea if it really works properly when watching a movie or something. It’s speed is pretty important.

You almost always get the perk if the project hits its goal. I don't know if its even a possibility not to get what you paid for if they do hit the goal. I could be wrong though.

im scared for this exact reason, but they say your ip wont be shared--- or at least it says your data will be protected. im not sure what's really being promised here
@@biskys6718 shared = them not giving it to 3rd parties. Your IP will still be visable as its outside of their control. Pm me your IP & I'll setup a time to do some non intrusive tests.

First of all, this is the most high-quality review, of this device, I had seen so far. Thanks for that!
However, several thing still interest me:
1. Isn’t “DPN” just a hardware solution, based on a same principal to a TOR, without access to a “dark web”?
If so, it will heavily depend on a number of such devises in use and on a quality and a speed of their connections.
2. Either I missed it, or it doesn’t give you an option to do not use it as an exit node. I’m not against such a use, but it heavily depends on a country you’re using it at. In Russia, we had a widely discussed case, when, a persons PC was used as an exit node and someone else had done something illegal, through this node. As a result, despite describing, how it works and having an alibi, the man with a node had been sentenced to jail, just because they couldn’t find a real culprit (you can check it out). So disabling this feature is sometimes important.
3. Not sure, what the devices business model is. Usually, such devices require a subscription fee for a reason. If they’re free/cheap, 90% of the time it is due to cutting corners or due to a somewhat misleading information (like advertising a proxy as a vpn). Thus, Have anyone checked this device from an hardware and software viewpoints?
What can prove to interested shoppers, that these kinds of devices prevent bad gov’t surveillance or gathering of user data?
How long are these devices expected to last in daily use?
If the government wants your data, they can get it. There’s laws in the U.S. requiring that this is built in to every electronic device sold in the U.S., since the Clinton administration and expanded under Bush. Private companies, however, can be limited. Also, your personal habits will expose you more than the device itself. If you use facebook or any fb apps, for example, there is no way to protect your privacy since you’re giving your identity and data freely to them to use and distribute as they wish.
@@soundmindtv2911 And THAT, kiddies, is why no one should have EVER given their real name, DOB, or address, to entities like FB, Gaagle, etc., much less use those very often, if at all.

right now you can earn DPR by staking LP. you also can earn DPR by sharing your bandwidth using miner device.

What do you want to know about the Deeper Connect Mini?
Hi, are there any other similar products on the market currently? I like the idea of no subscriptions! Not sure about the price and wait of delivery time. I'd also like to know how it effects faster service provider speeds.
@@musik2my5oul I know Firewalla, Jenkins, and Deeper Connect at this point. These are all pretty good solutions and I will do a complete comparison soon. They all support up to 1 Gbit speed from your ISP. While basic surfing it is not noticeable unless you are trying to access shady sides or lots of ads. The overall download performance of bigger files is somehow affected.
@@TheIdeaofTechnology I know Firewalla, and I acquired one Deeper Connect Mini, but I have never heard about Jenkins router/firewall. Can you share one link? In the future it will be great if you do the complete comparison.

Its might be a silly question, but here we go. With this device can I trick my old but still wifi capable “smart” tv to think I am in a country where in reality not, but would like to download country specific app, and use them? What I mean there are apps that allows me to watch live tv, but only if i am in the country. With this device will I be able to?
