This video is helpful because the names of the colors of wire indicate different things from one maker to another. Ibanez’ assumption that we’d wire only their (pretty bad) pickups with the 5 way switch results in frustration when using someone else’s, where the colors of the wires indicate different things. I’m trying to wire Lollar hb pickups with 4 wires each. The convention of Ibanez which you describe at the beginning may help me figure out how to solve this quandary.
@@patriotleadslinger5733 i ordered the 920d wiring kit and nothing fit so I bought different pots. I am using my stock 5 way because I am not sure if the 920 will work. I am using the 3 wire infinity pickups and don't know where the pickup wires go on the switch.
The Ibanez Mikro (2 pups) has a 5 position selector switch. 1,3,5 work as you'd expect. 2 and 4 provide a reduced signal, almost as if the output is using just one set of poles instead of two for each pup. Is this deliberate? I assume it is. Also - as you'd expect - there is NOTHING about this effect in the paperwork.
I'm still fighting this Ibanez with the wiring issues, tried every combination, just cannot get all 3 pickups to work at the same time. I'll check these diagrams out and see if this fixes my issue.
So I recently was gifted an Ibanez srd900f. And it was supposedly broken. A fresh battery and it’s working as it should. But when I took the cover off the electronics it had a red black and white with a plastic plug that will fit into the main board. But it was not connected to anything. It has the wires stripped about an 8th off an inch but it was never soldered. Is this common to have a “spare” plug in with the main board? Cheers if anyone has a clue why Ibanez would put extra parts in a new bass.
I have some silly Quick Connect Burstbuckers and long story short they only have a Hot and Ground cable (yes just 2), is an installation into an RG550 even possible for me?!
They’re not that difficult and the reason they’re designed like that is because they can be him cancelling or not, and they’re smart enough to cost the middle (noisiest) single pickup with non conductive paint and ground everything properly to prevent noise and static. So it’s not fuck Ibanez It educate adapt and respect. It’s only difficult if you’re unable to have the will to learn and understand.
To bad' these pickups on Ibanez RG or s series just don't have a replaceable pick gard, and just start fresh, this 2 pick up on a 5 way, red wiring for ground LoL$150 pick up upgrade LoL 😆 it's patience and a omh meter + diagnosis+my Ibanez diagrams from my own research and and patience good luck!
Can you provide the chart for a 2019 RGA 7-string with two humbuckers? I just upgraded my pickups, and I don't have the eight-post switch. I have the ten-post switch, and I think I wired it wrong, even though I talked to the Dimarzio tech. It's dual humbuckers, like I said, and every switch position seems to work except the 1st and 2nd (closest to the neck). The first one is supposed to be the full neck humbucker, and the second one is supposed to be the neck humbucker "parallel connected." However, after I plugged it in, both the 2nd and the 1st are the parallel connection, and I have no full neck humbucker anymore. Any ideas? Again, this is a ten-post switch, not eight. Thanks in advance!
My advice is to search the forums or find an owners manual that came with the guitar. Sadly most guitar shops toss the books and your Allen wrenches in the trash before they put the guitar on the floor to sell. Ibanez guitars usually come with a huge owners manual with the wiring and setup specs in it.
You need to know the full model number as well like the cheap 7 string is a 7321 and the numbers are all different depending on the tier of rga you have.
@@salsmadhouse5547 Thanks for all your help! as it turns out, I got into the back of the guitar again, and re-did the DiMarzio wiring to be exactly like the Ibanez wiring that I removed. Everything works great now! Thanks again!
As far as I know it's a mixture of the pickup wiring not really the switch. I could be wrong but I've been repairing and wiring Ibanez guitars for the last 6 years.
You ain't seen nothin brother. If you ever need that last little push to get yourself insane enough to just say fuckitall!!! You just go out and buy yourself a ooooh let's say 1982ish Ibanez custom Blazer and then only keep the middle single coil and replace the the neck and bridge pickups with some brand new Jackson JC-90s. I didn't even make it to heating my iron up. I just walked out of my house and jumped right into rush hour traffic on the ten freeway and died. But when I got to hell it was nothing but Jackson ceramics and O-2 capacitors everywhere. Yup, been dead since 1989 man..... Fuck Ibanez but it sure is a screaming little country western looking sleeper 👹..
Not a gimmick, just a different way to get coils split tones with hum cancelling. Might be a little different setup but the switching is awesome.
I've seen it all when it comes to pickup configurations lmao
You should see the wiring in the new Sawtooth Hybrid guitars!

Bro. You’ve just saved my life wiring this Ibby 7. Thank you!
Just upgraded 30 year old EX series humbuckers for RG’s... yeah, wiring them sucks but the end result is worth it.

Where did you find the diagram for Ibanez to use Seymour Duncan pickups? Im changing everything, including the pots and 5way.
There's an Ibanez forum that has all kinds of ibanez info.
I'll try to find the link to it and I'll put it here

-Red and white goes together

Have the same problem on a RG570 2001 when installing Dimarzios. Nothing works as advised by official schems. Help anyone?

Maybe you should stick to wiring Gibsons with a simple 3 way switch if you're not willing to learn, this video isn't helpful to anyone.
