But like said he’s had his chance and he’s not cutting it and the respectable move for stakeholders in the team and the team itself is to put someone competent in that seat. @@abel6846 Mercedes is pulling strings at Williams - they share the reserve driver pool and when Toto wants one of his drivers to do F1, he denies another driver Williams.
In some ways, Williams and Sauber are pretri-dishes for Mercedes and Ferarri. While RB and VCARB switch drivers when they can, it appears to be more about reinforcing both teams. Albon had to leave, went to GT3 and then he returned to race with Williams.
I can't exactly find the words, but the VCARB and RB cooperation seems more racing focussed than corporate. They want to win. Mercedes wants to win to sell more cars and give money to shareholders.

@@BruceKarrde This is nonsense. It's a partnership. Williams has all the autonomy they want and Mercedes can't tell them anything, but if Mercedes wants to have their driver, they can offer Williams some freebies to get them in. If Williams are happy with the deal, they will sign the driver on, if not they won't and that's the end of it.
Right now they don't have any Mercedes driver in, you think Mercedes wouldn't like Mick or Fred in that seat? You're delusional if you don't, the reason Logan and Alex are there is because that's what Williams wants. The reserve driver pool is always shared because that's the cheapest way of doing it and they always have a choice of reserve, if they want their junior to be reserve over a Mercedes driver, that's what they will get.
Haas has a much closer supply deal with Ferrari but still, Ferrari don't have any say with the drivers, right now, Ferrari could get some day in the future but that's up to whatever deal is signed between the teams in the future.
VCARB is literally a junior pool team for RBR, you can try and spin it however you like calling them a "sister" team, utter nonsense. Yes, VCARB has some freedom as is required by the rules but since they're owned by the same umbrella, Red Bull can swing their weight around if they want to, and for this year they did, because AT was underperforming last season RBR forces RB to take the full supply share and to go with the RBR development base from last season. That's less independence than the other customer teams have, they don't even get a say in the driver's lol, that's up to the senior team and the engine supplier.. so yeah, I am not sure what tree you're trying to bark up here.

The comparison to RB is very interesting considering Yuki Tsunoda is backed by Honda. And considering Aston is set to become the main Honda powered team in 2026, as well as Tsunoda's fantastic performances in the RB (as well as the fact he is currently above Stroll in the standings despite being in a slower car).
Its not unthinkable to imagine Honda pushing for a Alonso-Tsunoda pairing at Aston for as soon as next year, or for 2026 at least. Tsunoda has his critics, but most people do regard him as a better driver than Lance. And most people do think he's maybe ready for a big team.

Sure, he did an amazing job in the Sprint race… but as per usual when it comes to post Renault Riccardo, he had a flash in the pan great moment… then fell off again. He was right in the back of the pack in Miami’s main race… right where he usually is these days. The question here is… can Daniel become consistent enough to drive well regularly… or are we expecting a few flash in the pan moments to give RB SO MUCH MORE POINTS. Lance Stroll is consistently bad… so no one expects much from him… but Daniel legitimately frustrates me because he’s not consistently good or bad… but he’s more often far away from Tsunoda than not.

I wouldn't comment on the situation at vcrb were there not a viable replacement in waiting. At this point of his career, RicciardSlow is just a marketing vehicle, which he is good at. However, his recent point haul only enforces doubts about his performance since he joined vcrb after being fired from McLaren for incompetence. 6 races, 1 appearance in (S)Q3 and 1 point-scoring performance in a sprint race where nobody is pushing their car. He has been underperforming the car all year INCLUDING Miami where he was knocked out in Q1 and was a no-show during the race (... with new chassis!).

there's literally an article from his team principal today saying he's improving per race after they listened to his feedback and made changes for his comfort. bahrain and Saudi were bad, but australia he went from p18 to p12. in japan he was only half a tenth from q3, in china again only a tenth off, but closer to points in the race. After upgrades and chassis change, he was able to get a comfortable p4 and hold it the whole race. And about miami team principal confirmed it was a bad set of tyres that were outside its window, which made him lose all grip - mind you he still managed to have green sector 1 and 2 despite all that, and only yellow in sector 3 when he was totally slipping on those tyres. he couldn't do any better in the race because the vcarb is horrible under dirty air like yuki was in the sprint race and daniel in the actual race. bar the first two races, the lap time deletion in australia and lap one incident in japan, he wasn't bad at all.

The McLaren experience, the perceived issue with needing a new chassis, comments from Mekies about changes to make DR more comfortable and now the tyres were the issue. The sense I get from all this is that Ricciardo has significant limitations despite his obvious ability. He struggles to adapt to a car that doesn’t fit what seems to be a narrow window of characteristics. I am sure all drivers want a car that suits them, DR seems to be particularly limited and will hold him back in his career. You have to ask yourself if the previous was such a dog? I suspect there was a placebo effect in getting a new chassis rather than anything fundamentally different.

With VCARB having 19 points, we have 3 teams with 0. The points distribution has been very interesting to see. Even the top 5 is more extreme. While Red Bull has 10 points less than last year, the other 2 of the top 3 have gained more.

As for Ricciardo , honestly I think he still isn't recovered from his soul crushing time at mclaren , he is getting better , but I don't think he'll be at full swing before the summer break at least , whether he'll do enough to stay in f1 (as a fan , especially of his hard and fair racing) one can only hope (I mean , realistically the only reason he may not is Lawson ... but there are good reasons to replace each of the three non verstappen drivers in the red bull camp , it will be interesting to see how perez goes if ferrari and mclaren have equally fast cars ... would constantly 5th be enough to secure his seat)

Honestly, even going back to his Williams days it felt like Lance was going to be at a place where his dad’s money spoke loudly enough to at least make it potential for him to have a seat. Lance is inherently in a position where he has to put up strong results or live under the constant shadow of belief that he’s only in the sport because his dad can afford to put his son in a drive, which has the last few years made it seem that he prefers the shade.
That’s not saying that he’s a bad driver, no I think he’s perfectly decent enough as a driver, but the lack of improvement and the fact that aside from the one year he was against Sergei Sirotkin he’s lost to his teammate every year (and aside from his rookie season by a fairly strong margin) it becomes hard to justify him being in the sport.

It's not as simple as dropping Stroll into hypercar and expect him to do well effortlessly just because he is a F1 driver. FIA WEC is very competitive at the moment and there are lots of good drivers. The racing is very close and require good reading and navigating the traffic, there's a lot more cars on track at different speed compared to F1. It's more of a team sport so he have to work well with his teammates. It could be a good experience for him to grow, but doesn't mean it is easier just because it's not F1.

Is it possible that when Lawrence sells more shares and loses more control that everybody else can just get rid of Lance? Then Lance over to the endurance project send him somewhere else to race but I can’t imagine it makes Lance feel good to be the laughingstock and to know what people say about him. I wouldn’t be surprised if eventually Lance is like yeah I’m done with this. I’m gonna go do the endurance, racing side of things I would have no problem seeing Lance celebrating the team to win a championship with his dad and him being able to. Yeah I was there when this team started I don’t think he has enough to be a world champion. Pairing of Yuki and Fernando would be very interesting. Should when the Honda motor joins the team be something that happens. I think will be a good team and a good second for Fernando because we know both are capable of points I don’t think Yuki would be a threat to Fernando, but I think he would actually learn a lot from him and be able to really develop as a driver with him as a teammate

Yes something has gone terribly wrong at Aston, a very Canadian Nepotism 'wrong'... Alonso has been very consistent in scoring points for the Aston and been putting in the performances for a year and a half now. He's been performing, and based on his times the Aston seems very good. Even for an 'off weekend' like Miami, he still scored points, and still did better than Lance.
The problem is Lance, everyone knows the problem is Lance, except his team owning father Lawrence apparently. How much longer this farce can go on is unclear, but it is a farce (Alonso has 3.67x the amount of points Lance does already, and it doesn't look like its going to get any better for Stroll anytime soon).
