I got to fly on her & sit in the jump seat from Paris to Kennedy in 1983. She was a sweetheart. Broke my heart & felt such empathy for the young Captain. That was an impossible "save" and we're all taught to do everything in your power to keep flying. That one was not in any mans power.
The Concorde came to KFLL twice, once in 1983 of June for the South Terminal opening. The other was a super delayed arrival and early departure seen in this video of Oct 8 1999. The aircraft was on special charter from Paris and was delayed for hours in Paris due to maintenance issue.
I was there that day working for AA. It flew in from JFK and got delayed and I went on board. She was parked at the Delta terminal. I stayed late just to watch her take off. That was 1999.
Concorde was, and still is, THE best aeroplane, ever designed, built and flown. She was an extraordinary piece of engineering. The British and the French, should be incredibly proud that we managed to build the worlds only supersonic passenger aeroplane. This is so beautiful, powerful and elegant. Anybody who disagrees does not even know the meaning of the word 'aviation'. She should not be wasting away in museums across the world, she should be roaring in our skies. We love you Concorde!

@@MrDaiseymay From the beginning, tires had been a serious problem on Concorde. She almost crashed in NY in the 80's due to a similar situation. Nobody did nothing. I am french and so ashamed of that. Tires were made by Goodyear. After the crash Michelin designed new ones...but it was too late.

With only 16 units in service, it statistically NEVER should've crashed. That actually made it statistically the LEAST safe aircraft to ever enter Western passenger service.
She was a beast at take off - the earth rumbled when the 4 afterburners came on and 20 secs later she was off and 15 min later over the Atlantic was thru the sound barrier - climbing and doubling speed b4 decent near the Devon coast - on BA
that would be awesome.... but man those aircraft would be guzzling fuel so fast. concord could burn 2 tons of fuel just taxiing to the runway. imagine if every aircraft's fuel consumption was that bad.

And grossly overweight, and also negligence on the captain's part for being in a hurry and not allowing time for runway inspection/sweeping which was mandatory prior to ANY Concorde takeoff at any airport. Best civilian airplane ever. Period. Making huge planes that carry more passengers like the A380 is a step backwards. In the late sixties supersonic flight was planned to be widespread and common use. Hence the initial orders from a good dozen airliners that wanted to buy Concorde planes. A real pity supersonic civilian planes are not on the radar today.
She doesn't, this is just an old video, Air France retired their final aircraft on 27th June 2003; this particular one, F-BTSC was the aircraft which tragically crashed in 2000.

Hi..I live 15 min from FLL in Hollywood Beach which is southeast from the airport. I have pretty good view of the ocean and flight pattern in and out of the airport. Just wondering when this video was taken? FLL has a great observation area for plane watching and an active PA system of Fort Lauderdale Tower. Thanks.
I completely agree with everything you said and adore the concorde, however you do need to give credit to the facts where its due, and like it or not, the TU-144 is also another supersonic passenger airplane that DID fly in service supersoniclly, albeit shortly, but it did indeed do so.
true, but i doubt it would still be flying today, it was pretty expensive to maintain and burned a lot of fuel and with airlines trying to cut budget these days i think this plane would be retired. but perhaps with better memories than sad.

Fun to see Tango Sierra Charley at KFLL. I am about to research whence and whither the airport(s) that had the gal at Ft Lauderdale, which was not one of her regular runs. Also, Sierra Charley was the only Concorde with acting credentials, as most know, being the focused aircraft in that Airport'79 flick. The "Airport" flick franchise makes for a couch'tatto-ing day of seeing the same lame human dramas focusing on a 707 in the initial film, the 747 in another, Concorde an other, etc. I wish that franchise came back to life for a long instant just to have some mini soap operi (operas?) on the A380. Some 5 or 6 tales from among the 500+ pax and 20 crew. I suppose since there are no (?) USAmerican 380 operators the fictional airline would be Brit or French, Asian, Ozie or - best yet - Middle Eastern. I gotta look for my roller-dex (anyone remember them?) with a couple Hwood names who could get that story boarded for direct-to-streaming release. Anyway, good to see Sierra Charley from KFLL. I had a few easy minutes just now to find out why the beloved Concorde Sierra Charley was at FLL. Apparently that was her second trip to KFLL, the first in 1985 to celebrate that airports expansion project. This capture was taken in 1999, September. She arrived Fri 8Sep from JFK to pick up 96 pax who paid $95K for a round-the-world. She would depart Sat, 9.9.99. Interesting some planespotters were muffed because she was supposed to arrive Fri:1300 yet arrived more than 7 hours later at 2010, then depart Sat:1345 but lifted off 3.5 hours EARLIER at 1005. A commenter on the board where there was briefly discussed stated there was a bunch of folk upset by the missed opportunity to catch her airport movements [even though he was not very knowledgeable about Air France's Concorde, since he called her the "Air France Speedbird" ;). ] with another commenter musing perhaps the movements were clandestined since some wealthy passengers did not want photographers capturing who might have been boarding, etc. Just as likely as not. Anyway, there ya go. Took me longer to type this on my BB then it did to find the info. Now I know what's going on when I watch her on my recently received JP SanJuan/FtLaud DVD.
One more footnote to exhaust the Ft Lauderdale trip. I mis-wrote the dates: they were ARR 1999, 10.8 (not 9.8), DEP 10.9 (not 9.9). Also the full itinerary designed by an American travel agent was KJFK - KFLL (actual departure) - SAEZ - SCIP - NTAA - YBCS - VTBD -v VTCC - HKJK - LTBA - KJFK. 8-31 October 1999: "Around the World By Private Concorde" (typical St Louis Missouri travel agent kitschy title). And my last note on F-BTSC: in 1989 Pope John Paul II flew her on a 3-day trek to some French territories (eg Reunion). She had maybe the most illustrious career of all Concordes? I think so. 747-400 has been a real working horse, but the Concorde was like a Ferrari of the Sky, something we will not see around for another XX years.
