Exactly and people need to accept it. Shuttle was extremely complex but incredible machine Challenger only happened due to lousy management and once redesigned those boosters were impeccable same for the main engines. They should have made more effort to improve the shedding issues on the external tank would have prevented Columbia tragedy. After Columbia the shuttle was safer than ever before. Complete check of TPS on each mission AND an emergency shuttle on the pad in case of worst case scenario. It’s sinful they retired the shuttles I can accept perhaps retiring Discovery due to mileage but Atlantis and Endeavour should still be in use it’s a disgrace. Beautiful machines and they would be a big help with cargo transport for the moon base they want with the Artemis missions not to mention building a new space station to replace ISS that is due to retire in 2030. Bring Atlantis and Endeavour out of retirement and build a few more new shuttles to support. We still have nothing that gets 7 astronauts and huge cargo into space.
Shuttle was a incredible and dangerous vehicle. Space travel is not routine, never will

Dude, the challenger disaster was on January 28, 1986 not January 8
