Those early "unpainted" tanks still had white external hardware (LOX pipe, etc). They probably had some in stock that were already painted.

I noticed that too, no 2 tanks were the same... later some yellowish stripes on the foam, etc...

STS-1 and -2 uses Standard weight tanks (SWT) painted white (for UV resistance). STS-3, -4, -5 used SWT unpainted. STS-6 thru STS-90 (1998) used Light weight tanks (LWT). STS-91+ used Super light weight tanks (SLWT).

2 minutes after liftoff it's 21 miles high, imagine the ride with that acceleration, strapped in facing up then turning 180 degrees

You can't tell the difference in the rocket plume from 65% thrust to maximum thrust ... Always come back to rewatch these beautiful liftoffs

Bruce Tharpe I believe that is in fact a version of a Saturn 1b, ether SA-205 or by the colouring more likely SA-201. Reason being is it's considerably shorter, and the 1st and 2nd stage here are the same width. If you look at a Saturn V the 1st stage is massively wider than the 2nd and 3rd. This is most likely as I say SA-201 which was a Saturn 1B early test vehicle.
