Old Classic Car videos in 2025 - a few tweaks & ideas

- Many more videos about classic cars in the UK are planned for the Old Classic Car channel in 2025, although I may go about things slightly differently - especially when it comes to the video upload schedule - and also broaden the scope slightly for the subjects covered. In this video I talk through my plans going forwards. The aim is to continue with what appears to be popular with viewers here at OCC, and expand on the classic cars subject matter a little while staying true to what the channel - and OCC site itself - are about, the aim being to build and improve on what's gone before in the previous 600+ uploads.
Thanks as always to everyone that has supported both our channels to date, whether that's in viewing videos, hitting the like button, subscribing, leaving a comment, and/or signing up to channel membership (see Join button for details).

Hi Rick, I prefer your workshop content, where you troubleshoot and repair vehicle components.
Great idea to interview and show viewers own vehicles. How they got into classic cars. Brilliant idea
Thanks, it's always fun to chat with owners at the meets we get to so hopefully that side of things will grow on the channel.
We appreciate all the video's that you and Harley put out. Talking to other owners of classics is a great idea.
+1 for liking the idea of speaking to owners. When I go to shows I like to chat to other owners when they are with their cars. It brings the vehicles to life. I think I Drive a Classic's videos where she speaks to owners are some of her best.
Thanks for the video. I watch several car and other "old stuff" related sites and it seems many who used to do a few videos a week are backing off to something less intensive. I understand what time pressures the whole YT experience can be on someone.
As for ideas, I like the visits to museums and to others involved in the old car business like the Alvis barn find and parts guy. I'm not a fan of live feeds as the comment sections have to be constantly monitored for trolls, although they do provide for community members to meet each other and communicate in real time with you. Your call of course. I would like to see some activity on the A40 as that model is appealing to me. I realize that activity is weather dependent as well as financial in nature so I leave that to you. I like the car owner interviews that focus on their car's history and their story of how and why they have it. And lastly, show us all the car related stuff you have collected spread throughout the house and property with some history and background on them. Thanks for what you and Harley do!
Thanks for your thoughts as always, yes I'd like to see the A40 move along a bit, I find life + other cars + old house tends to restrict other things getting done unfortunately, same story for most old-car people I guess. Yes I plan to feature more car-related "stuff" as I've always been keen on it :)
Richard
Plans sound good for 2025. I do like the idea of you featuring individuals cars and the stories behind them. I think people do like the individual history of cars and the work and commitment invested to reach the point they are at and able to show their cars.
Thanks for the feedback Terry!
Hi Rick, what you describe all sounds very interesting, and a very good idea. I agree, talking to the owners of classic cars is much better than just having a quick drive of it. A live stream sounds good too - I'm sure people have plenty of questions for you and Harley - we are a nosey bunch ! Everything you and Harley put out for us is always interesting, and much appreciated, so have no fear, your followers will still be here and backing you all the way. Thanks Rick and Harley - take care 🙂
Like I said to someone else, if I was a journo then I'd be good at getting across what a car is like to drive etc etc, but as that's not my background I think I'll leave that to others who are better placed at doing such things. The comments/feedback have been very interesting and useful.
The additions to the channel will certainly be of interest, especially the back stories the owners have about their classics.
Highlighting those one-man operations refurbishing classic parts etc will be particularly helpful for sourcing hard-to-find parts.
Onwards and upwards Rick. and thanks for the vlogs.
Cheers, plenty of food for thought in these comments
The idea of talking to other classic car owners is a good one. On occasion, you or Harley have done so and it's great to hear the personal stories the owners have to tell. It's a highlight for me. I have no problem with any change you are proposing Good wishes.
Thanks!
Richard, I like everything you present to date. I would like more of a video story when you go to an event. Something like name the event and location then videoing the drive and then the arrival and a view of the surroundings then on to the event as usual
I know it’s difficult but you should always try to get a view of the engine, interior and boot
I am not partial to live stream but they are occasionally tolerable
These are a few thoughts. If you changed nothing I would not complain
Keep up the good work
From sunny Florida
JIM 🥰
Hi Jim, thanks for your comments, I do sometimes film the drive over but if I remember (!) I'll try and do a few more before and after clips when going to meetings. Cheers
I subscribe to two channels where the 'host' drives peoples cars. They both do things a little differently to one another but only one does interviews with owners once in a while. I think the idea of you chatting to owners and their interests would be great. I do know that not everyone likes a camera 'in their face' but I think if they are willing to talk 'face to face' that would be nice rather than just a disjointed voice. I would suggest keeping it in a casual chat form (as you do now) might put people at ease rather than a sit down set of questions, some people can 'freeze' in that setting. On the technical side you might need to purchase an additional microphone (Bluetooth?) but they are reasonably cheap to buy but don't go for a 'cheap as chips' model as they are more trouble than they are worth. I do like the idea of 'mixing things up' a bit and I am sure people will not mind if the midweek video does not appear or is on a different day at this time of year. Personally I don't really like live chat videos but I am just one person so if the consensus is to do one then fine I can choose to either watch it or not. Finally it is your channel and I support any changes you wish to make Rick so good luck with the coming year of 2025. 👍👍
Hi, as I've said in a couple of other responses, if I had a background as a trained journo then perhaps I'd be able to convey well what a car is like to drive, however I don't so I prefer leaving that to others who might be better placed to do that kind of thing. However bending peoples' ear about their own car and getting them to talk first-hand about what they're like to own and drive is do-able I think. I've yet to speak to anyone who isn't keen to wax lyrical about their own P&J, usually not direct to camera which I fully understand. The jury is out on live streams, I'm not sure I could carry one off anyway :) The feedback has been very interesting to this vid overall, thanks for leaving your thoughts.
Diversifying from the areas that have made your channel popular, with a certain group of subscribers, is always a dangerous step. There are loads of car channels on YT but I only tend to regularly watch about five because their USP hasn't changed. One of the reasons I watch your videos is because the pace is unhurried and you spend time to occasionally focus on the insignificant items of old vehicle memorabilia that other car channels will ignore. Your other USP is that you are keen to concentrate on pre-1950s vehicles which are not popular with other channels, so keeping that is important. This is relevant to the tinkering aspects of your videos because fixing a pre-50s vehicle is so much different to post-80s "classics" which are the food stuff of many other car channels. On the subject of meeting up with other owners and discussing their cars I sense this could be quite boring and better suited to a radio podcast than a video channel and it's something you could always do more of when you go to car events anyway. Hope this helps.
Thanks for your thoughts, don't worry I wouldn't be veering too far from what's gone before as first and foremost I like doing videos about what I'm interested in (which is how the OCC site started nearly 25 years ago) and I don't see that changing. I already chat with owners quite a lot as it is, at the events we go to, so it'd just be expanding on that a bit. My main interests will always be the older stuff, but I have to keep a weather eye on the rest of the hobby as it evolves year-on-year. But like I say, any changes would be evolutionary rather than revolutionary :-) Thanks again for putting your thoughts down here, it's all really appreciated.
Love to hear from other owners of classic vehicles, as well as seeing their vehicles up close.👍
I like the idea of reviewing individual cars that local people own. Their stories, why they love them, that sort of thing would be good. Perhaps viewers could write in and request a particular vehicle to be reviewed. Another viewer who owns one might make it available for you to have a look at. That sort of thing. All in all, Richard, I find these changes very promising and I’m looking forward to viewing again this year.
Thanks, everyone's feedback on this video has been really useful
I would definitely like to see you chatting with some of the owners of the classic vehicles, and you going to visit some of the businesses that help to keep them on the road.
When we meet next, I have a couple of other ideas for you too.
Thanks Richard, no doubt we'll bump into each other at some meet(s) or other before long!
What you put out on your channel is always enjoyable. I have always had an interest in cars going way back to my childhood , many , many , many years ago. 😅 Keep it up.
Thanks Carl
Like the idea of showing other folks’ cars. Not 100% sure about live-streaming though. Best to show how you (and others) fix the old cars to keep them on the road. Whatever you produce I be watching it here Stateside 😊
Thanks Eric! feedback always appreciated, still not 100% sure on live streams but I suppose they are easily avoided. The problem with them is that when viewed as an upload, the actual worthwhile content in them isn't always great and they can ramble on for hours unless strict timekeeping is in play.
I think that’s a great plan, I’m amazed how you put the output you do (I’m probably not the only person who feels slightly guilty I fall behind watching). The diversity will work well for you 👍
Ithink all of your videos are enjoyable you certainly know your stuff my first car was ford pop 103e dark brown always wanted pilot could never afford one yours is a lovely car
Sounds good, Richard - a little fine tuning of the channel will be interesting, informative, and entertaining. Looking forward to seeing owners and their personal classic cars.
Some good ideas. Looking forward to seeing them plus still seeing the old favourites.
Seems like a plan, the channel is evolving.
Seems like a great idea😊thanks
Vintage coaches, definitely.
Hello Richard, I am a channel member and have subscribed for over 5 years. Thank you for the update, and the pleasure of seeing the joy of classic cars being lived out in you and Harley. I agree that video of you driving a car belonging to someone else has a limited appeal, rather like watching someone enjoying a great meal. The audience are not getting those flavours and satisfaction from vicariously witnessing someone else having the enjoyment. Hearing from the owner gives much more enjoyment and insight plus gives inspiration to own one of those models at some point.
My preference is for mild tinkering videos personally, it always amazes me what your garage contains. If there is a requirement for an offset flange ratcheted ring spanner 3/4 inch Whitworth reverse thread you seem to have one!
I'm also surprised that your channel subscriptions are not higher, perhaps too many people are dreamers who ogle Ferraris and 0-60 times giving content providers 200k+ subscribers? Both of those things are to me of no interest at all.
Thank you for what is a true enthusiast channel and thank you for presenting it in a friendly and inviting way. It is also lovely to see Harley developing into a fine, well spoken smartly turned out young man, following your enthusiasm for the history of motor vehicles.
Onwards and upwards, (but don't change too much? )
Best wishes Richard Batty
Thanks for the feedback. Not having a journalistic background I doubt that I could give car reviews the depth that they would deserve anyway, others with the appropriate skills can do that so I don't see much point me trying that particular angle. Bending the ears of owners to talk themselves about their firsthand experiences, as I/we do at shows from time to time, I think that'd work. Thanks for supporting the channel! Cars full stop are a niche subject for UA-cam, old cars are small sub-section of that, so I never see the channel being super-big, but as long as numbers continue to creep upwards then I'm happy enough.
Thank you for the update. I agree with your ideas to improve the content. Be careful with your time as your ideas may overwhelm you. Although you didn't mention it, I would like to see videos on the restoration of your Austin A40 before I die. Viewers could learn a lot from them.
Yes I'd like to see the A40 move along before I peg it too! :-) Thanks for your thoughts as always
Mixing it up a bit in the way you described sounds just the job. Live streams would be great too. Looking forward to it all.
Thanks, the comments to this upload have been very interesting
Nice to see the OCC HQ control centre! What you do is hugely appreciated as shown by the comments you receive and I hope it makes what must be your considerable efforts and time worthwhile. I look forward to any of the interesting changes you suggest in your video and will keep watching. Your channel and Harley's keep me sane in this mad, bad world! You ask for comments good and bad: I feel that the meets videos are beginning to be rather repetitious, with many of the older cars reappearing many times, and swamped out by modern cars. Yes, I know they might be classics one day, but not yet. But that's just me. All the best and keep up the good work!
Yes there's always the risk of repetition, this time of year it's not always easy to mix things up as much as I'd like but hopefully soon the better weather will be here and we'll be out and about again. Cheers for your thoughts!
I love the idea of a feature vehicle. Also, a live stream would be great. The only trouble is it means setting the alarm for early in the morning as we have a 10 - 11 hour time difference in Australia (depending on the time of year).
I like your video's, I think it's a good idea to try a live, just to see how this goes
I’ve enjoyed your channel for along time, The shows you are attend are great but quite often I’d love to hear a bit more about individual cars and the stories of the life they’ve led. I’m sure it’s not easy, but I enjoy the conversations you have with owners and I’d be happy to see fewer of the cars at each show but more individual histories of the cars. Either way it’s a fab channel and I’m here to stay!
Noted, thanks for the feedback ratty!
Great ideas! I'd really like to see a special on Austin 7s and especially the design and construction of Austin 7 Specials. I own 2 specials. One is a relatively well known one in Australia called a Flemming Special and the other is a basket case I recently found up in Queensland. I live stream on say the up and coming car shows in the UK would be interesting. I'm thinking of coming over for a visit to the UK to see some these shows. Cheers guys great job!
I wish I'd kept my old A7 special, maybe it'll turn up again somewhere. The jury is out on live streams, some seem to like them, others not so much, we'll see on that one! Discussing upcoming shows isn't a bad idea. Cheers, RJ
Thank you for the video and update 👍
Sounds good to me. There must be a lot of people who would like nothing better than for you to have a look at their collections. Wish I had something to offer you myself but sadly not. Truth is, we'll probably watch anything you put out but we wouldn't want YOU to get bored! But don't stop doing the shows and museums. More museums should invite you for a private showing because it must be great publicity and some smaller ones are not well known., All the best for 2025.
Thanks for your thoughts, I started OCC nearly 25 years ago because back then there weren't really any sites covering the stuff I find interesting. Now things online are a lot busier, including here on YT, but even if I broaden things a bit, the main focus will always be the slightly older cars, and the clutter/parts/old tools etc that belong with them.
Hi Richard, as well as getting to know another car, it would be nice to hear peoples’ history of other cars they had, why they changed etc
Definitely!
Livestream sound good 👍
Due to the vagaries of UTube AI, my old codger failing brain, and an ancient laptop, I did not even know about Wednesday uploads! I just see them when the evil brain behind AI allows me. But I do watch yours and Harleys video whenever I can and always 'Like' and comment both because I enjoy cars of my venerable vintage and the follow the development of Harley's interests, including his now being a car owner and Pathfinder fixer for A levels. Kind regards and thanks. Rob
Thanks for supporting both channels Rob!
Hello Richard . A change is as good as a rest ! Am l seeing things or is that the thinnest wardrobe ever and what is the aircraft ? Thank you Richard
Ha the built-in wardrobe goes into an alcove alongside the old fireplace in here, so it's deeper than it might look :) The closest match I can find for the aeroplane is the Convair 580, I don't think it has much age to it but is nicely made and was found in a charity shop.
A question Richard. The blue Volvo 164 that was parked in the scene where the old red Volvo was , did you own that Volvo ? I'm thinking Harley mentioned in one of his videos that you owned a Volvo years ago.
Yes we owned that a while back but I never really gelled with it, which was a shame as on paper it was my ideal cruiser. There are a few videos about it (a 164e) in the darker corners of the channel. Previously I've owned 120s and PVs.
@oldclassiccarUK I have always liked the Volvo 164 e. The front styling with the position of the headlights with the grill made it very classy looking . I also liked the 264 GL model. Same car design but with the big headlights in the front .
I really don't care when a video comes out, just not TOO many car shows, more doing stuff.
I'll do what I can!
