This was my favorite show of all time! Can’t believe I’m seeing this clip here. Makes me think there’s a treasure trove of video of these guys back in the day just laying around at an MTV office somewhere that fans like me would LOVE to see
Man, I dont wanna say its the best as thats subjective, but its definitely my favorite sketch comedy show. Have they ever released a complete version with the original songs in an official capacity? Just too many great sketches to list. My friends and I passed around a tape I had made when I caught a marathon in the middle of the night. We must of watched that damn tape 1000s of times. It also had "Get Me Cobalt" on it, which was pretty random but still a great little extra. I think it had Artie The Strongest Man In The World in it (I believe his name is Toby Hess) as the supervillain
They released a DVD! They had to redo the vocals for pudding sketch because the song in it was copyrighted. It was made so long ago and in such bad audio quality they couldn't separate Michael and Tom's voices from the background music. There were actually a lot of technical complications, like one sketch was almost unsalvagable. But they did finally release it
So many in The State went on to great things. Reno 911, Wet Hot American Summer, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Superstore, Stella, Veronica Mars, Drop Dead Gorgeous, The Big Sick, The Eyes of Tammy Faye, Role Models
I was 13 when this show came out. Just as Grunge made an indelible mark on my musical taste, this show informed my sense of humor and does to this day. I performed the Captain Monterey Jack skit in high school forensics and it killed.
‘You had to be there’ might be the most accurate description of The State I’ve ever heard. I’ve tried to describe the premise of my favorite sketches plenty of times… it’s impossible😂😂.
They must have been influenced by Kids in the hall because it has that same type of energy and surreal type humor that you don't see anymore in sketch comedy.
Holy video quality, everything from The State on UA-cam looks like it was recorded on a VCR. This is like HD from the 90s. What witchcraft is this? Please tell me there is more.
@@osagiee.guobadia-secondytc4624 I mean it is but they air the same shit as their premium channel, Pluto/mtv should create a new channel that airs the shows I mentioned and call it “MTV alternative ” or even a night block on the Pluto channel
The amount of hilarious people in this is nuts. I didn't realize I've been dealing with the same comedians since I was literally a kid

The State was amazing back then, and i just saw the cast on tour!
Michael Patrick Jann says more in this video than his entire run on the show!!!
His most memorable line from the show wasn't spoken, but sung... "And loaded up with gin", from the Porcupine Racetrack skit...
Also, as Jesus Christ: “Watch your back.”
ALL THEIR SKETCHES STILL HOLD UP
Probably the greatest thing that will ever come from MTV. David Wain is a national treasure.

Before Reno 911, The State was the funniest show on MTV. Why Can't MTV aired it on TV now? : )
MTV should create a channel on Pluto that airs shows like this, the maxx, mtv downtown, aeon flux etc.
they’re sleeping on it imo
@@raz_nick4048 actually, MTV is now on Pluto TV. 👍😀

@@raz_nick4048 Oh, I see.
It’s on Paramount plus now… I guess because of the music rights expired, that may be the reason they didn’t release it on TV…
I don’t usually eat pudding, but when I do, it’s $240 worth of pudding. Oh yeah, Barry!
"But that could ruin his whole life...Hey! YOU GOTTA DO IT!!"
I often find myself saying things like "Oh, you mean uncle Robert? Yeah, he didn't die from drugs."
