Great to see you guys meet up to run a TY game. TY has a lot going for it. Fantastic models, a great rule set, interesting lists for each army and at just the right scale.
Nice seeing something other then "Soviets V Germans/US" even though its still US and German equipment.. If I didn't live over here on the west coast I would definitely try to come in and help you record more Team Yankee. Though no supporting Tornadoes for the CAF seems like a crime.
The Canadian list really needs at least 4 ADATS instead of just 2. That one tiny unit isn't enough to cover your bases versus both air units and heavy tanks. Probably would've made sense to keep them as the Ambush unit too considering their fragility and 16" minimum range.
Or alternatively take a 2nd AA unit. I think Canadians get the blowpipe as well. Because of how the reaction mechanic works it is very beneficial to have multiple Reacting units. So that way it's harder for your enemy to force you one way or another.
Beautiful map and terrain. Great painted armies. Good sound, enthusiasm, and video. Thanks for posting. I angle the roofs to remind myself infantry are ion the building. You asked viewers to post mistakes. In T1 when the T-72s were shooting at the arty it looked like LOS crossed a wall which would give the arty cover and gone to ground. The NATO player mentioned it in his T2. And I don't think choppers in units of 2 do last stands now. Also with arty bombardments, danger close applies to helicopters and jets. They don't like flying through falling shells. Ouch, it always hurts when the ambush fails to kill. The HMVs could have scouted. The dedicated spotter with the +1 to range in is so important for the Soviets. OMG the Canadian FP rolls were terrible. On T4 I would have tucked that surviving T-55 behind a T-55 wreck for +1 cover to hide. You could have rerolled your last stand on your TOWs due to proximity of your company commander. The T5 Leos could have started 16 inches up the flank for arriving in the corner and then moved 14 with stabilizers. But I don't mean this as criticism. I really enjoyed it.
Some great looking lists! Looking forward to watching how it shakes out! Edit: Well.. I messed up in the assault lol, the teams I got in contact with the tank should have been 2 C1 teams and 1 Carl G.. not the other way around… my apologies..
At 23:40 "I have no spotters anymore" - FYI artillery can spot for it's own bombardment (might not have been the right decision, but still they can do it)
18:52 You can mistaken identity on a 3+ since the attacking team is not within 4 inches of the dragon team. 20:32 You do not make last stand checks for bailed out vehicles. You make a last stand check if you only have 1 vehicle that is NOT bailed out (so a team of 3 with two bailed out will get a last stand check for the last team). 23:25 Artillery Teams can spot for themselves, instead of firing a smoke round you could have ranged in for yourself and fired a smoke bombardment, or try to pen the top armor of the T-55's 24:47 Even though you can fire Dragon Teams at AA, the have a RoF of 1. So since its a RoF of 1 you increase the to hit number, so you hit on 4's and 5's, not 3's and 4's. 28:06 Page 39 Infantry teams CAN shoot at helicopters for defensive AA (except guided weapons) so there could have been infantry AA fire at that time against the hind. Though you still have to re-roll firepower checks. 38:27 Once again, could use mistaken identity. 40:09 Mistaken Identity works with vehicles too 1:24:53 I cant tell but if all those T-72s are one team AND are firing at the unit and NOT individual teams, then they use the lowest to hit number. So if you see one tank and hit it on a 4+ then you hit all tanks on a 4+ IF THE ATTACKING TEAMS ARE IN THE SAME UNIT and CAN DRAW LINE OF SIGHT. No shooting at things you cant see at all. 1:26:54 The HQ will replace an infantry team (usually a rifleman) within 6" if available. At least in this situation.
@@mwgjosh5161 Thanks for taking it as not nitpicking :) . WW3 TY is probably my 2nd favorite game (depending on the day it may be victory at sea) so I always try to help when I can. Not all mistakes were yours either. The mistaken Identity stuff is more of "did they not know this?" and the defensive fire with the infantry in retrospect may not be a thing, BUT they could have shot at the Hind you put in front of them on their turn (the ones in the woods).
@@mwgjosh5161 There an e-mail I should contact? Theres a bit of stuff that would need to be involved since its kind of a 29 hour drive there from washington state.
Excellent write up! Just a few thoughts on my end.. Absolutely could have mistaken target, simply chose not to in that instance. as per the WW3 FAQ, Pg 9, units that start with one team in them have to make a morale check if they are bailed out and fail to remount. You are right, I could have spotted for a one gun barrage, and it may have been more effective then fireing smoke. However I chose not to in that instance as nowing how my dice roll the changes of ranging in, hitting, rehitting on the rerolls of my successes' just didnt feel worth it. Thank you, forgot about the +1 for the Dragon team when shooting at helo's, I dont usually fight much aircraft. Again, didnt choose to use it. Im sensing you would have liked me to use mistaken target a bit lol, but yes I could have used it here too. So they were part of the same unit yes, but the one T-72 on the hill did not have line of sight to any part of the leopard unit that was Not concealled so he had no valid target for the easier to hit number. Cannot recall if we nominated a replacement commander or not at that point.. but yes you are correct.
Interesting game. I won't list the mistakes others have commented on, still learning myself and we make them too. At 0:26:22 your rolled a Last Stand for the Hind, Aircraft are classed as in 'Good Spirits' even when down to just one team. Also at 1:26:20 +, why were the Leo 1s only rolling 1 firing dice each? They are ROF 2 2, halved the shots that unit should have had.
enjoyed the game, but a fair number of missteps: Initial setup, neither player used his starting range-in marker...Soviet player should have ranged in near objectives. Minute 24, when guided missiles fire on aircraft, they are ROF=1 and take an additional +1 to hit. So only one hit on the Hinds which saved...repeated again. Minute 28 - moving T55s are slow-firing so 5's to hit on the M109. Repeated again minute 40. Minute 30 - you can't range in such that your template is w/in 4" of friendly teams, incl aircraft. It looks like you are cross-checking to pass wrecks - not required (p33, last entry is wrecks. They cause terrain dash but cross-check is a big 'NO.'). Min 1 hr 08 - smoke markers are placed two at a time.1 hour 27 min - the American company broke when the HQ team died. 1 hour 37 minutes - HQ don't take last stands. General - roll for left or right flank with scattered reserves, and the dice sit on the table corner in scenario diagram (like CONTACT) the unit can go up to 16" along the narrow table edge - could have been huge for the Canadians.
It's a strategy board game so it's very tactical. What it's not is a tabletop recreation of any specific battles, or forces. Rather it let's the players determine forces for various nations based on points. Also unlike a game intended to recreate historical battles in addition to having the ability to experiment with forces the game takes 2 hours to play and not 8 hours to play like much more detailed simulation games. It does land itself in a precarious spot. The theme attracts simulation/historical buff interest who think it should be a more historical simulation, and drives away modelers and gamers who can't stand that bunch and would rather play sci-fi games where nobody rants about how much the range the actual 88mm cannon should have according to it's historical counterpart. So it falls into a niche of people who like to build models, paint, play a historical themed game, go to events and have a good time but aren't autistic who feel that the game should recreate every nuance of the battlefield.
Given there was only 2 Adats, I would have fired them at the Hinds. The reason being is that you need to roll to see if the a/c come on each turn, whereas, Helos stay on and you're stuffed if you can't shoot them down
1/3/23 the shooting you did at 40:22 of the video. I'm 99% sure your tanks can't shoot all the Canadian vehicles because destroyed artillery is still armore and you can see them anyways because of the wall of smoke.. can't drive over them or shoot or see through them.. or thats how we play n e ways
Reminder this game takes place in 85’ so the soviets were a little more competent, and had a lot more money to blow on toys for illiterate Dagestanis to use
Reactive armor on soviet should be nullified after discovering they are filled with wood and rubber. I will make those adjustments. the soviets are not at par with nato.
It's not a simulation. It's based on a Cold War era "What if" novel called Team Yankee. It assumes everything is up to spec and troop morale and skill is based on the cold war era training.
Throughout their war in Ukraine they did use actual kontact-1 and kontact-5 kits. Though, they’ve ran out of kontact-5 and relikt in recent times, which has really fucked their tanks ability to defend against anti tank munitions. God bless those that are sent to die needless deaths

Yes, along with any other unit leader, or the formation HQ (Pg 51 of the rule book - "pick spotting team").
Great looking forces.

I don't think aircraft affect danger close
Don't believe Soviet T-55Am's are slow firing but WARPAC variants are
If the ADATs started out in the woods, they would have been concealed and GTG.
great looking setup and good game.

Team Yankee looks good. Good battle report
Josh it makes me so happy you referenced war thunder. Stream when??
To test "Follow Me", you use COURAGE rating, not morale rating. Fortunately, the courage and morale rating are the same for Canadians I believe.
