When I was kid we didn’t have a fireplace either . My Dad would hang our socks (just regular socks we wore) on nails and we’d get oranges, apples , nuts and hard candy. This was the early 70’s 😂 in Tennessee . Mom and Dad never pushed the Santa Claus thing either because it was Jesus’ birthday not ours. And we opened all our gifts on Christmas Eve. ( I think that’s so we wouldn’t wake them up at midnight 😂).

My sister and I always had horrible ear infections from swimming. Sounded like a good idea until it got stuck in our hair! It was a mess! 🤣

I do my kids stockings the same way, only my kids are now in their 30s, my middle son says he still gets more excited to see his stocking than his gifts. I watched the same PBS shows, my favorites were Benny Hill and Are you being served, which is still on Saturdays and I never miss it. Have a wonderful Christmas!!

This year we added two stockings to our four. It's just been my mom, younger sister, and I for the longest time till our dog came two years ago. Then our dog Charlee Grace got a stocking. This year we added stockings for my sister's boyfriend and my boyfriend. My mom's boyfriend did not get one because my mom has only been with him for about two months. We do the open stockings whenever and presents aren't opened till everyone is awake. As my sister and I have grown older my mom has just given us a small Santa gift, I'm 18 and still getting one from Santa mom. I just picked out some truffles for the good ole Santa mom to get me. This Christmas and the impending doom of me having to decide once again if I'm going to college or not (this year I decided not to go and take a year break to figure life out and it isn't going to plan) have got me thinking about how next year I'm gonna have to sacrifice and have anxiety over breaking traditions to start a life with my boyfriend. He's hoping that he can slowly start to get me out of my house and start living with him and Christmas just reminds me of how anxiety inducing it is for things to be different and not tradition for me.

Mary..I don't know how old your boys are, my kids are 16 and 17 and I still enjoy loading their stockings up with little items. Like you, every year I try just to buy enough to fit the stocking, but it doesn't work out that way. The best part is my kids really enjoy and appreciate it!

i’ve been using my childhood stocking for 16 years lmfao it was a homemade one that my god mother made me and it was even personalized! sadly this year it got ruined so i had to get a new one that functioned. we still hung up the old one though, just can’t be used anymore ://
