Zman LarvaZ on a Mule Fishing 1/64 oz jig under a Thill small, weighted bobber, 6lb Berkley Jordan Lee lime green braid, TFO 6ft Ultralight rod, Shimano NASCI 1000 series spinning reel. I love fishing bluegill. Such a strong fight for a small fish on the light gear.
I grew up pond fishing and would catch bluegill on artificial baits often. One of my favorite ways to do this was with a fly rod! Small dry fly or better yet, poppers. I would tie multiple flies at a time if I had enough of them and twitch them as I brought my line in. That's the only rig that I have ever caught multiple fish in the same cast. Thanks for the video and sharing some of your family time with us!
No joke when I was young my father would bring the Vienna sausages and saltine crackers and we would have that for lunch and we would smoke bluegills with worms and bobbers. One spot between him my brother and me we caught like 50. But I'm agreeing now plastic is like more logical if it works less mess and maintenance and more cost effective
I don’t think it’s live or artificial, cut up hotdogs, #6 or 8 Aberdeen hook, light tackle. Also like the micro finesse zman offerings. The baby ballerz or shad fryz are great combined with the micro chatterbait
I do an Ugly Stik GX2 split grip 5’ UL rod with a KastKing Zephyr spinning reel. Best budget combo for UL fishing. Works great for bank, kayak, letting friends and kids borrow as well … highly recommend
Man it’s awesome to see you out with your boys fishing. How old is your little one? I took my 2 year old out on my boat for the first time. Still trying to teaching the very basics. Would love to see a video on how you taught your young men to fish.
I’ve always caught mine on artificial lures. I use an all black 2” Mister Twister grub. I bite the tail off and fish with just the body and catch tons of fish. It works in clear or stained water.
I use in line spinners down hear in the heart of the Pinebelt of Mississippi. I am going to try your method and see how it works down here. Thanks for the video and the info.
Heck I’ve caught bluegill on Berkeley choppos and 1/2 oz spinnerbaits before granted not intentionally but they will hit stuff you wouldn’t expect for sure
Happy Father's day Brian. Watching your kids fish with you was awesome, both of them can really cast and catch great! I know you got to be a proud Dad! I totally agree about bait fishing! I haven't used bait in years, mostly because I like staying clean lol...FishOn...jimi
I grew up calling them all brim, I usually always use night crawlers or crickets, but I have caught them on a small crank bait, looked like a Jimmy Houston knot
Trout SOS 2lb line is out there. Not 100% on the name but just got some a couple weeks ago. Also use vicious 4lb thanks to Mr Richard Gene ;). You both are my favorites.
Dude! The LS75 is my favorite reel right now, i have it on the Shakespeare micro series and im having the best summer with it. Thanks for the mono tip! Im using 10 lb braid
Ultralight fishing is the best. For the palmor know on the drop shot. Go through that backsode and then come back through the eye on the front side. Definitely those smaller hooks are not easy double up through the eye.
My dad and I use some hand tied crappie jigs when we go to Canada fishing on Lake of the Woods. I need to find out where he gets them, but they are fish catching machines. Piscifun Carbon X 500 with 6lb Braid on an ultra light, Walleye love them too it's really fun in early/mid-september, I tink we caught probably 50 a piece every day on our trip last year.
We always called em all bluegills. Used old school mister twister style jigs with the clothespin style spinners with small curly tail grubs. Fish it just like a spinnerbait
I have used artificial for awhile with the kids now. Leland lures Trout Magnets 1/64 oz jigheads with their trout magnet split tail grubs work great. They also sell SOS Trout line mono in 2, 4, & 6 pounds test.
I call each species by their common name: bluegill, pumpkinseed, green sunfish, etc. I use the Z-Man microplastics like you do, but also crappie tubes or micro ice fishing tubes. I also catch them with inline spinners (Mepps, Blue Fox, Panther Martin), Beetlespins, tiny Rebel crankbaits, plastics on a jig head under a bobber, and I catch them on my fly rod. Today I'm going to pitch the Micro Goat on Micro Finesse ShroomZ to see who wants to eat a micro Ned.
I just ordered my UL rod, and a reel last night! I cant wait to take my 4yr old out to catch some blue gill! Daiwa Presso Ultra light 7ft + Daiwa LT2000s-p (coming from Amazon Japan).
@@ch-hq2qx I have the 6’6” presso for about 4yrs or so now. its really nice. It is soft action. But.. you are targeting bluegill. And Its perfect. I have been an UL guy all my life. But i have neglected the reel part. He has made really think about reels more than i ever have. I still need to order one of those reels.
Since bass fishing, I just don't have the patience nor the time for the mess it causes with live bait, especially night crawlers. Accidentally spilled on carpet today. Smh. Great video and thank you.
You asked how we fish for bluegill, etc.... My favorite way is to use a number 0 or 1 size Mepps spinner. Or I will use grubs on a small jighead. I hate using live bait. I do it with the grandkids just because. I have caught them on 1-inch Rapalas as well. Or some micro crankbaits that Rapala and Strike King make. If you want to have even more fun go down to 2 lb line. And you can catch big fish on it. I caught a 10lb carp I snagged in the tail on an ultralight with a 2 lb line. It took me over 20 minutes to land it. But I landed it. Thanks to the awesome drag on my Daiwa spinning reel.
Up north we just callum sunnys. Down south where your at, brim works. Covers all the species. Like you, I'm tired of live bait too. Just got into UL fishing. Never going back. So much fun. Betcha you start carrying an UL on your bass boat. Its like an addiction. Take a look at MULE fishing supply. His UA-cam channel is 'Fish Anything' . UL is all he does.
I’m so happy that your panfish fishing and giving tips I use a collapsible cane pole and Cuban yo-yo’s I’m in Florida and I’m Jamaican can and Colombian and I fish the traditional old school way that’s very effective and efficient.
I've only had luck with red wigglers. I will use a jig and a small curly tail like you showed, and they wont even sniff it. Throw a red wiggler, they go nuts.
The z man larvaz is where its at Blat!! They get that long thin tail in there mouth and they dont want to let go. I really enjoy seeing you out with your boys. As far as the z man products you like. The ticklerz are good too IF…. you have larger size gills in your area. 1/32 oz head. Slow down Blat. You don’t have to be in a rush out on the water gill fishing. you’re not in a bass tournament. Its kinda funny seeing you getting excited for bluegill. Ahh forget about those green carp you fish for money for. PANFISHING IS WHERE ITS AT!
I'm from California we call them perch bream or bluegill or sunfish but I personally use lures cause I don't like using bait cause i fill I get just as much as bait without the mess
Brother if you can Find some private ponds , Watersheds , Secret lil below a spillway washouts ,,, there's bream in those bad boys that a give ya a run for your money ! Artificials. I have been using artificial baits for 20 years now and i still get a bunch of crap for not using live baits from my pops and uncles. But i do better than them. There are times when a live bait is king but most times artificials do the job well.
I always throw 1/16th ounce beetle spins or nunber 1 or 2 mepps aglia and bluegill or sunfish will go crazy for them... i stopped using live bait for everything... live bait to me is just a snooze fest... i already dont enjoy finesse fishing (i find it extremely boring) BUT live bait is even worse for me
I saw them and wanted to try them. Well I didn’t know which one to get so my girlfriend decided for me. She grabbed 2 of each one they had on the rack. And I had to get a tackle bag just for all of them
@@BrianLatimerFishing I hear that I had a chance to catch giant smallmouth in Montana last weekend and chose artificial over minnows. The locals thought I was crazy
I use my panfish flies I tie and 1/80 oz gold with chartreuse and black rubber legs and all sliver you need to check them out send me a address and I’ll get you some I own crappiestopperjigsandflies flies
Now I know what I've been missing my whole life.. a BLat x Richard Gene collab....
That would be Dope!
When I heard the Gene reference I was like now this guy is a fisherman after my own heart
YES!!!!!
This is a fact
Right?!?!?!
Brian listed EXACTLY ALL the problems with using natural bait for panfish!!!
Keep these panfish videos coming! Just getting into panfishing. Loving it so far.
Brian,
This is why I signed up to be a subscriber. You are real. No fake crap like so many others do. Please stay true. 👍
brooo!!! seeing your kids cast!! is awesome!!! they will be great anglers!!!
Love Richard Gene, dude is way underappreciated. Honestly, so are you.
RGTFM is the man. He's also the reason I started crappie fishing this spring. I love his attitude and he's full of knowledge.
Bluegill and baby white bass/ Hybrids are super fun on bfs and ultralight rods
Canned corn. Thats what i grew up using. No mess, cheap and easy.
Good ole canned corn. Works like a charm on those micro hooks. Brings back great memories. 😁

What a great video watching the kids have fun. We call them all Gills up here in Michigan.
I swear you have the best channel out there. Great video, B

Great vid Brian especially with boys out there dragging em in.
Gotta love big bluegill fishing!
I had no idea they taste so good
Ultralight rig with small jig heads and tiny plastics is 90% of my fishing. Constant entertainment!
same, its so much fun
That's the first time I've seen someone tie a Clintch knot in a long time 👍
I thought that’s what it was!!! It kinda sucks to be honest but for this it’s about the only one that works
Cane pole and a little ball of white bread. That's how we always did at the lake as a kid.
I use 1/32 ounce jigs with eurotackle crazy critters/stone flies or a local company called mule fishing's donkey tail junior.
Come on. Sticky Worm juice on fingers and Vienna sausages for lunch.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Size 500 on the spinning reel
I grew up catching brim on Lake Wateree with a Betts topwater popper with a flyrod. Nonstop fun action. You get some bass mixed in there too!
Cool stuff,we call them bream in Florida, and we use grass shrimp, red worms, and crickets
Can you share what the little spinning rods your boys were using?
Love this and going to give it a shot. Used to fish for bream with artificial lures years. Tons of fun
Man it’s awesome to see you out with your boys fishing. How old is your little one? I took my 2 year old out on my boat for the first time. Still trying to teaching the very basics. Would love to see a video on how you taught your young men to fish.
I jig for my bluegill and crappie. Only time I use a float is when I fish for bluegill to use as live or cut bait for catfish.
Your videos keep my heart young and my mind thinking I can figure out how to successfully bank fish, no matter the time of year!

i use trout magnet craws on a mini jig head in my local creek, half the time they smack it before i can flip the bail
I’ve always called them blue gill. Crickets are my go to but hard finding somewhere that sells them

I’ve used foil to catch them just seeing if it would work. A friend of mine put a booger on the hook and caught a few
When is the other monthly tournament going to happend?
I'm like you I've always called them brim. Also I've always caught them on red wigglers.
I call them bluegill in MI. I love catching all the varieties of panfish tho. Sunfish, green sunfish, hybrids, red ears, etc.
Dude! The LS75 is my favorite reel right now, i have it on the Shakespeare micro series and im having the best summer with it. Thanks for the mono tip! Im using 10 lb braid
I have typically used red worms, but this video makes me want to try using a jig or two.
As a kid I always call brim on bread and hot dogs
Ultralight fishing is the best. For the palmor know on the drop shot. Go through that backsode and then come back through the eye on the front side. Definitely those smaller hooks are not easy double up through the eye.
The tiny orange beetle spin take the spinner off and let it bounce on bottom
Where you fishin? We heading to Morgan city, La tomorrow
Red worms, crickets and orange beetle spin with and without spinner.
MoNo!?! 😂 Love your sense of humor B.Lat.

I go to a pond and all I use are artificial. I catch bass, crappie, and bluegill/bream on same lures.
I also don’t love live bait- gulp alive 1in minnows on BG-1 micro jigheads from I-fish get me bluegills, crappie, occasionally small catfish or bass.
