Rode this park on a Giant Trance (trail bike) back in 2019. A local came up to me at the top and said in a very thick Quebec accent "you riding this place on that? good luck my friend". In that moment I knew I was in for it.
Oh man that star wreck was rough to watch first person....glad you came outta that ok... The trails you start at 20:32 are like, my favorite kind of trail. Vegetation right up to the edges, little tight berms, roots and rocks, dodging trees, not too high speed but super engaging. Plants right up on you, so fun.
I came across your channel around a year ago and clicked on one of vids by accident, flash forward to today im now lured in to nearly any Mtb video that comes up on my recommended and picking up my first Carbon full squish tomorrow.
Bummer it was raining but it's part of the game. Hope you enjoy your stay in my belle province :) Can't wait to see your next footage at Massif de Charlevoix ;)
My hometown! Often people ask me why I don't find Sentiers du Moulin "that" hard...When you've been doing your experience at 15-16 ans riding Tak-Tak, Chomeuse, and 1837 at Mont-Ste-Anne, everything seems easy. MSA take good rider and make then excellent rider. Great riding in the Inuk btw, that one is a nasty bitch when it's soaking wet
Man only you can ride such gnarly terrain so well on a shorter travel trail bike! 💪 I rode black and double-black tech at Mountain Creek on a 140/135 travel bike once, and with my weight (200lbs) the suspension wasnt enough (obviously) and I ended the day with a cracked frame. ... So of course I bought a DH bike since I love riding the jank! 😎
Just as I got to the very end of vid I started writing my comment, "I can't believe you didn't slide out at least once"! Then it happened lol Glad you're o.k!! I would've ate mud about a dozen times probably more😂 Nice riding 🤙🏻
lol. i know exactly what comment you were talking about with the trail conditions stuff. I screenshotted the thread and sent it to my friend to laugh at the guy.
That's a shame you were there on a heavy rainy day, on a trail bike O.o Big shout to Hailey that rode in those conditions! That was scary for sure. Next time, please bring the enduro at least, we would be stoked to see you smashing the big trails we have.
Gotta try running yellow lens in your goggles really helps with transitioning from light to dark I don't ride without I have really hard time in those conditions tho with my eyes getting old lol gonna be 40 this year
riding in the wet is the best !!!! any argument about it can be countered with enforcing population growth quotas to reduce impact on the environment and the limited green spaces available being taken out to grow food or build apartments.
@@SkillsWithPhil dude, don’t even get me started. Take away my local bike park so some billionaire can golf with his friends. I have pains in my chest thinking about wilderness roll and the World Cup course just sitting there…unused.
Hey Phil love your GoPro footage and was wondering if you're running hyperview or superview, and at what stabilization setting. Also, chin mount, correct?
The suspension just feels firmer on shorter travel bikes, it has to ramp up quicker so that you dont constantly bottom out. So in those moments you start to feel like you are getting bounced around and its harder to maintain composure.
I did a pretty thorough inspection because i thought the same. I wouldn't have been surprised in the least if my downtube/bb was smashed up, but as far as i can tell everything is fine and have been riding the bike since. I replaced the shock, which started leaking oil and you'll see that in the next video so that might have been the noise 🤷♂️
Canyon also has a misleading reputation. You spend thousands on a bike and then a proprietary part breaks and you're left without a bike indefinitely because Canyon doesn't carry spares of their own proprietary parts
Still dont understand why you didn’t bring your enduro rig for your trip. Especially since you’ve been shuttled on many climb. SDM and MSA are proper enduro terrain/trail, and those 3 runs at E47 also… but you knew that already, so was that purposely for being underbike and see how it’s going?
I wasn't told i was going to be shuttling. I was under the impression that id be pedaling. I only learned at the destinations that id be shuttled. I selected the most versatile bike i had for climbing and descending. Its not that deep.
Eh, a trail bike is fine for everything at SDM, and not that bad even on the roughest stuff at E47. Sainte-Anne tho for sure terribly underbiked but hey, whats life without a little spice.

To be fair there is stuff that you will be fine riding there on, but the most famous tech stuff you wouldn't want to do too many Laps on it
Lmao I was getting the same comments on my 150mm hardtail 😂

Dude it was pretty sick to see some of your OG racing footage! The riding here was sick also 🤙🏽
Frank seems cool to ride with. I thought you would of cracked the down tube on that crash you got lucky.
Yeah i would like to ride with him more. He's a very perceptive person off the bike and really good rider on the bike.
Yeah, honestly thought the same thing. I was shocked that the only thing i could find was the bent chainring even after a deep inspection
Phil rode MSA on a trail bike, in the wet, so wet that the park closed to the public. MY GUY
🤯
Thank you for these videos, Phil.
Classic MSA! Good one. ☺
Wouldn't be MSA without a little moisture!

Great riding. So many great saves.
You guys enthusiasm always serves to put me in a better mood and make me wanna go ride my bike!
Really hope you had a good time in my hometown Phil, it's been a blast to watch your videos!! Cheers!
that place looks sick! great video!
Heading there this year for the UCI race...can't wait. Another great vid!!!
More Mt. St. Anne! I want to see you ride those reaallly gnarly trails!
What was the bike and the fork he was riding with. Adjustable travel is interesting 🤔
Always nice to see your videos Phil.
from the look of it, the fork is by "Intend BC". It's a small German boutique brand that does very high end stuff. It's an inverted design too.
Amazing how well you kept up in those sloppy conditions on a "trail" bike. Kudos to you sir!
And kudos to Haley for riding in those conditions!
Looks good af to me!
Woooooh MSA ! Hopefully you can come back in nicer weather and ride the good stuff 😎
Yo, I heard my name! Anyways, the place looks surprisingly fun despite the rain which I'm not a fan of. I think you did it justice with the video.
Shredding as always!

Crazy this place reminds me of snowshoe so much considering the distance

Cutting down trees like a real Quebecois!! Nice ride man

That was such a confusing interaction. I try to give people the benefit of the doubt but that person was just looking for a reason to be upset.
SAFE 👍 nice slide

great vid. that crash was wild!
Franck riding We Are One rims?? Amazing! I wonder if I made them!!

That was some nice shreddin'...well, maybe not the chain ring thing...
You need to come check out Windrock bike park since it’s been a awhile. Maybe hit some laps with Dakota or Aaron Gwin.
Lol! “It’s ok to ride because it’s wet…” seems to be the Canadian equivalent of “it’s hot but it’s a dry heat” 😅
riding in the wet is the best !!!! any argument about it can be countered with enforcing population growth quotas to reduce impact on the environment and the limited green spaces available being taken out to grow food or build apartments.
Last time I went there were similar conditions.
Oooof 😅
the first time i seen DH was there, in oct 2010. A guy there was telling a bike frame would only last 3 or 4 years....
What camera do you use phil?
Hey, I broke my neck here in 1998 Just started biking again this year believe it or not.
Man, rest in peace Windham Bike Park =[
For only 200,000 a year they'll probably let your still ride the bike park if you really wanted to 😄

What camera setting do you use? With my gopro I don't get as wide of an angle so I can only see my front tire and occasionally the handlebars
its crazy how quick a crash can sneak up on you haha
The more DH bike content the better Phil!!!!
Hey Phil love your GoPro footage and was wondering if you're running hyperview or superview, and at what stabilization setting. Also, chin mount, correct?
Hey Phil how do you like those deity pedals, thinking of buying a lairt
hi phil
How'd you get from 1837 back over to where LA Vietnam dips onto that "new" trail, did you pedal over or do another lap?
Also yeah that last trail is much steeper in person.....also way easier when it's dry 😂
Honestly no idea, but we did do some traversing
Phil, you said in some sections that you were wanting more travel. Are you bottoming out in those sections or is it something else?
The suspension just feels firmer on shorter travel bikes, it has to ramp up quicker so that you dont constantly bottom out. So in those moments you start to feel like you are getting bounced around and its harder to maintain composure.

What tire pressure are you running?
28rear 25front
@@SkillsWithPhilis that because of the rainy conditions? Or normal pressure? Ty
Whoever comes up with a wiper blade for GoPro's, their grankids will live comfortably. 😆
as a 34 year old who just recently busted my ass like Phil, I feel your arm pain.
